Hey so I’ve been really busy recently and haven’t posted since even before my birthday. I fell bit into a few different fandoms. I don’t know if I’m posting any of my art of that on here.
When it comes to my Rain Code stuff, I’ve bitten off way more than I can chew project wise. So here are some sneak peeks on things I may or may not finish.

This post contains spoilers for the final Chapter of Raincode.
This is my idea for what Yuma looked like pre-canon. It is based on my headcanons for him and his backstory.
Tumblr media
Now Yumas age during the game isn’t really revealed to us. But since the game really pushes both Kurumi (who I’m assuming is at least 18 since she’s in her final year) and Shinigami as love interests, I’m choosing to believe he’s 18~19. Because if he’s not, either he or Shinigami has to be a creep interested in teenagers. (Personally I’m not all that big of a fan of either ship but that’s irrelevant).
Now Homunculi stop aging once they’ve reached maturity, so Makoto can be the exact same age as Yuma (physically I mean). He was created 3 years before canon, so if he was created when Yuma was let’s say 15, they would both have grown into 18 year olds during the games events.
All this to explain that I suspect Yuma was a child when he started his career at the WDO. As I mentioned he’s probably not older than 20 (I think). But I think him joining the WDO, finishing his training, being a detective AND actually being number one in only 2 years time would be a little too crazy.
My theory is that he developed his forte at a young age (between like 8-10) and the WDO heard about that and took interest. Something like Yuma meeting a master detective and accidentally copying his forte, said detective then informing the WDO. We know that the Unified government has authority over the WDO and since they cloned him, they clearly have an interest in number one.
No information about number one can be known by the rest of the world, so they either paid off Yumas family or he never had any to begin with (they also could have killed his family but I think this is unlikely). I’m leaning more towards the orphan idea, since that would be most convenient story wise. Also, post-canon him doesn’t seem to make any moves to meet his family (tbf we only see him for a bit then but it’s all I’ve got).
This would make him the ideal number one for the WDO, he would already have a forte and it would be easy to make him disappear from people’s lives. If he then also demonstrates a superior level of intelligence he would literally make the perfect number one.
Granted, these things don’t have to all be correct for him be number one. This is just my theory for the how and why he did become number one. And this is the theory that is present in my work that has either pre or post-canon Yuma (none of which I’ve finished, my bad).
Now for my actual designs
I don’t want to ramble much longer so I’ll keep it short.
- For tiny Yuma, I liked the idea of Yuma having Marie-Antoinette-syndrome (alopecia areata diffuse). This is a condition that turns the hair gray prematurely. Now it is often assumed that stress plays a role in the condition. So I thought the changing of Yumas hair color throughout his career would be a good story telling tool to demonstrate how this job has psychologically aged him. It could also physically demonstrate the stress of the job and in a way explain the mental state that caused him to fail to stop the actions that led to what happened to Kanai Ward.
-Number one, he got his outfit from the fake number one excluding the sunglasses and that yellow shawl. I based his hair off of that of Izuru Kamakura. It is also meant to accentuate his blindness to everything that lead to the situation in Kanai Ward. The idea is also that when disguising himself as a trainee, he cut off his hair and, along with his resignation, cut off his responsibilities as number one.

I'd like to add to this by saying how I also feel that it is the characters that, for a big part, make Kodakas works as good as they are.
While both Danganronpa and Raincode have their flaws (sexualization, an abundance of pervers, etc.), the characters, and often their reactions to the circumstances they find themselves in compensate for these flaws. Some characters even have significant growth, like Fuyuhiko, Kyoko and Himiko. While some others have less significant growth that still adds to the story, like most of the Raincode cast.
Thanks to the variety in characters and their depth, it's pretty easy to find a character that you can relate to or at least sympathize with.
While this might seem like a pretty obvious observation, a good chunk of specifically the Danganronpa Fandom seems to struggle with it.
I'm mostly saying this because I've seen quite a few people dumb down characters like Himiko to their worst character traits. Saying things like Himiko just being annoying and that she deserved to die over literally any other character. While everyone is allowed to have their own opinions, I can't help but feel that some of these opinions are born from a lack of understanding of these characters.
this is so Writing Fiction 101 and the most juvenile 9th-grader thing to point out in the world but like. one thing i enjoy about Kodaka's works is that the flaws of his characters aren't necessarily moral judgements upon their whole personality.
Danganronpa gives us this often. Sakura is the big stoic fighter but is shown with a massive amount of compassion and understanding, even towards those who have wronged her. Chiaki is a little schlubby and sleepy and distant, but also incredibly observant and non-judgemental. Tenko is sexist and impulsive but also brave, in touch with her emotions, and deeply protective.
it continues in Rain Code. Chief is lazy and somewhat irresponsible and yet also cares deeply about people, even going to find Vivia out of genuine high concern when it seemed Viv had gone missing and suicidal. Halara is somewhat greedy and cold but also profoundly intelligent and loves animals. etcetera.
again: very simple, very obvious observation. but. you'd be surprised how many writers on both sides of the Pacific will say "this character is the Evil and Annoying One who is rude and arrogant and careless and useless and a pig and messy and sexist and racist and and and" rather than parceling out traits individually in a more realistic manner. it'd be easy to make Chief just the shitty leader or Chiaki just the beatific dream girl. this is why i like DR and Rain Code

The fic I didn't know I needed.
Also, not at all the point of the fic, but the "DONT TOUCH ME" made me consider possible side effects for coalescence.
Like, I'm pretty sure the game doesn't really mention one. But we see on the train that apparently coalescence is just on at all times and will just activate with anyone who touches him. We also get to see how, even if he's not using someone's forte, if the person who activated coalescence uses their forte he can kinda sorta feel that? It's a little confusing honestly.
While the game doesn't delve much into the detail of what that means for them coalescence is activated by a person without a forte, I think about it a lot.
ANYWAY, it sounds very overstimulating. Just a regular period is overwhelming enough.
The Hand that Helps Alleviate my Pain (RainCode t4t Kokobolt Piece)
Please click here to read!
Rating: Teen and Up Relationships: Yuma Kokohead/Desuhiko Thunderbolt, Yuma Kokohead & Shinigami, Yakou Furio & Yuma Kokohead Characters: Yuma Kokohead, Shinigami, Desuhiko Thunderbolt,m Yakou Furio
Summary: Yuma Kokohead is not having a good day. The trainee is dealing with period cramps and it's resulting in him suffering from intense pain and dysphoric thoughts. Perhaps Desuhiko Thunderbolt can help reassure his man.
NO SPOILERS FOR THIS ONE!
Would this count as a vent fic? Not sure, but either way, I'm transferring my period pain onto Yuma.

I was also pretty uncomfortable with how much the game pushed the ship due to the possible age difference (though this is pretty typical of a Spike Chonsoft game in my experience).
I would like to add tho that I do find the idea of Yuma actually being underage very funny. It's definitely unlikely and there's evidence against it. But the idea is still so funny to me.
Things like Yakou offering to take him out for drinks because that's just what he does with colleagues and friends, neglecting to ask Yuma for his age. Desuhiko repeatedly asking a teenager about his relationship status is pretty in character, ngl. Not to mention Halaras' high standards for teen trainee during their Chapter.
Also, Number One of the WDO being a child during most of his career would be absolutely hilarious. Like yes you are infact taking orders from a twelve year old, yes he is world greatest mind and if you have a problem with how he runs things you better talk to him quickly because it's almost his bedtime. I do think that for at least a part of his career, he must have been underage. I mean, he couldn't have been that old during canon and there's no way he'd only been a detective for like a year pre-canon (and became Number One in that time).
There are people that are big time into Kurumi x Yuma (fair, the game shoves it onto you like crazy) and these are usually the same people who say that Yuma is 15-17.
Though the game never explicitly stated his age, I thought it was made clear that all the detectives were adults, and that he must’ve been at the very least, 18 or 19. He’s short (lol) and has a tendency to complain (like many teenagers do), so it makes him appear pretty young, despite the fact that he’s still an adult.
there a couple instances where is general age is kinda alluded to(?) such as the one scene where I think you approach a bar? And shinigami asks if you’re even old enough to drink, to which Yuma responds ā€œgood question.ā€
he is an amnesiac, so you could definitely say he doesn’t remember his age (which this implies that he doesn’t) but he himself likely assumes he is somewhere near the drinking age (20 in Japan), seeing how he also doesn’t think Kurumi would have useful information because she’s ā€œjust a high school girlā€
in a gumshoe gab with chief yakou, yakou offers to take yuma drinking, in which he expresses no objection, implying that he’s at least 20, or at the very least, that he thinks of himself of at least 20.
AND THEN THERES THE ENDING. in which we find out that Yuma is number one, the leader of a GLOBAL ORGANIZATION. probably older than 17 or 18, though due to his appearance and everything else in the story, it’s hard to see him as older than somewhere in his mid-twenties.
and though a few girls (plus halara) are teased as love interests for Yuma, Kurumi is the one that shinigami scrutinizes the hardest, which would make more sense if it’s because… she’s underage.
age of consent in Japan was more recently raised to 16 iirc, and was once 13(?), but I would presume the age gap would still be considered somewhat taboo, which would make shinigamis unusually harsh criticism make more sense
All this to say, I do not like kurumi x Yuma and was uncomfortable with how much the game pushed it. I will admit, part of it is because I simply like other ships better, but the age difference/ STUDENT STATUS of one of the characters makes it kinda icky to me tbh. Kurumi was okay as a character, but her being thrust at Yuma as a love interest was bad in my opinion. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Thats how it went right? XD
Yuma Kokohead's origin story.
Based on this meme. I had to do it. It was too accurate for them… Makoto is the perfect malewife haha. I love naegiri so much (even if my DR phase has been over, and now I'm fixated on its successor lol)
Bonus

Loving all the art you post! It's so cute and I just love the style! Seriously, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! I've loved your stuff before I even started making fanart for Raincode, so this really means a lot!

Sleepovers are already such fun, but the more the merrier right? Ofcourse it’s only polite of the boys to give Fubuki her own space under the covers. That blanket is totally big enough to keep the two of them warm!

Happy Birthday Makoto~! ā˜”ļø 1 šŸŽ 6
Honestly didn’t know what to draw for him…so I drew him with his favorite things. Raw ham, wine, a melon, and…Yuma šŸ’œšŸ¤
Just the two having a nice quiet birthday evening together in his penthouse apartment. Away from society, away from the rain, and away from their work.
I’ve honestly not been in a drawing mood lately but I had to make something for him…so this doesn’t look very good. Sorry šŸ’¦
Hope you enjoy it anyway.
Happy Birthday to our favorite CEO! He deserves this šŸ’œ

I'm trying to be neutral here, But, I'm finding them fun....

Spoilers for RAINCODE ahead!
Hey, so I was just looking at the raincode artbook for references and...
Tumblr media
I'm sorry, but is that a Phoenix??
Tumblr media
Is this aspect of his design common knowledge in the Fandom? Am I stupid? Is the Phoenix a reference to homunculy being able to rise from the dead? Or does it instead represent how Yakous death brought on the start of the end, the end bringing a brighter future for Kanai Ward??
I need some answers please

Since I drew Yuma being affectionate with Fubuki and Desuhiko, it’s only fair the rest of the NDA gets something similar. It’s a reference to this post btw.

Some well deserved affection <3
This is based on a pose from School Bus Graveyard, because that webtoon is just so good when it comes to characters interacting with eachother in a natural way. This is an aspect of my art that I’ve always wanted to improve upon. And obviously the NDA are my ever willing victims when it comes to my art progress.

I think they represent different times of day. Kanai wards eternal rain starts after Makoto’s arrival, Kanai wards fate only starts to change when Yuma arrives and I wish I had a good reason for Yakou.

Been sick the last week so obviously the cure was to come up with a mdarc x mlpfim au with overly complex character lore etc etc etc that I'll probably never do anything with! Horray! :D
I'm doing better now so idk if I'll draw the rest of the NDA + Shinigami and Makoto but who knows- I always forget how much I love drawing honses until I'm... yk... drawing honses. :)
