Enjoy your time in Social Media! You will soon become a brainless zombie who's entire personalityĀ revolves around posting and liking and tweeting and a bunch of other things. Welcome to the game!

Peggy Orenstein said this,Ā ā€œYet the final decision...was not really about my own impressions: it was about how I imagined--and wanted--others to react to them...How much, I began to wonder, was i shaping my Twitter feed, and how much was Twitter shaping me?ā€ ( Goshgarian,253)
A lot of players in Social Media report feeling as though they have to constantly perform their character without pause. They find their posts and tweets constantly adapting to their online persona, and eventually their real selves are deeply encased in their Social Media self.Ā
This is not an uncommon phenomena for the purpose of Social Media is to leave your real self and enter a world of performance art until it devours you whole. If you reach the point where you ponder the same thing, congratulations! You leveled up! There will be more reality checks from here on out!Ā

In Social Media no oneā€™s life is private! Everything you do will be on the internet forever, and people may even screenshot posts that you probably shouldnā€™t have publicized in the first place. Privacy is no longer a thing, everyone will know how many times you dumped your partner, AND we know where you were two days ago because you posted your entire location and the restaurant you went to!Ā

Note
This game freaking sucks! People are becoming mindless zombies "roleplaying" and posting their entire fake lives on "Social Media". In "Note to Selfie" by John Dickerson he said it best! "...Sherry Turkle wrote about putting our lives 'on pause' in order to tweet, text, or take a selfie: 'When you get accustomed to a life of stops and starts, you get less accustomed to reflecting on where you are and what you are thinking." (255). This game sucks and it needs to be deleted!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
Well, of course! Social Media is supposed to be a game where you donā€™t think about real life! You just post endless amounts of posts in any situation. Ignoring your friends during a gathering is the norm! Why should you think about who you are when you can pretend to be anyone you want to?
Check out these players ignoring an amazing concert and posting for other players to see!

Exploring the Language of Visuals (251): Is texting replacing normal conversation?
Social Media, the greatest RPG we have in this day and age allows you to talk to millions of people you donā€™t know without even having to speak! This absolute life saver saves us from having to have awkward conversations where we mess up and people end up thinking weā€™re weird. Some platforms even let you be anonymous and you can carry an entire conversation without needing each otherā€™s names!Ā
Of course we have video chat options as well as simply calling someone on the phone but isnā€™t it so much better to slide in oneā€™s DMs and worry not about meeting face to face?
Also 90ā€²s kids, thereā€™s no need to pass notes in class! Just log in to your Social Media and DM your friend!Ā

90s Online Gamers stop here!!!
Are you a millennial or a Gen Zā€™er that has played endless amounts of online games and are ready to play the newest, hottest, most superficial game ever? This is for you!
The 90ā€²s (and a few years before) was the starting age for Millennials and Gen Zā€™ers to put their game face on for Social Media. Massive Multiplayer Online (MMOs) and various online games (Call of Duty, Halo, etc) primed the way for young children to adopt their digital persona and easily phase in to Social Media.
Playing online games doesnā€™t require you to be yourself. You can be that person who solely focuses on playing the game and nothing more, or you can be the person who spews racist hate behind a mouse and keyboard. No one will ever know who you are!
Once social media platforms such as MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook really kicked off in the early 2000s, the transition from faking a gaming personality to faking a social media personality was painless.Ā
Welcome 90s kids! We have enough cartoons and nostalgic memes to goĀ ā€˜round!
