I hope you're feeling better! I have an ask: If the ACoTaR characters and/or ToG characters were to be placed as adults in our world, what would their jobs be and how would their co-workers and/or bosses describe/characterize them? (P.S. I'm in love with your dog posts, they make me smile! 😍)

I’m no fan of AUs, let alone modern-AUs, so I’m going to answer it as if they were just ordinary citizens within their respective worlds :)

ACOTAR

Feyre: Leads art therapy classes both for children and adults.

Rhysand: Patron of several arts-related organizations (theater, orchestra, pottery studios, etc.)

Cassian: He might not be the head of Night’s armies, but he’d still be a soldier. With his drive and ability, he’s likely in some kind of leadership position.

Nesta & Elain: Co-own a cafe/book shop along the Sidra where you can borrow a book to read as you enjoy drinks and a snack. If you want to bring a book home with you to finish, you have to bring a book to leave in its place.

Lucien: Runs a forge making decorative blades. His control of fire means he can get some pretty intricate work done.

Azriel: Hermit.

Mor: One of Night’s most prestigious lingerie designers. She enjoys Prythian-wide fame.

Nuala: A cook in a small restaurant beside Nesta and Elain’s shop. You go to her if you want something more substantial, but she has an agreement with Nesta and Elain where some light savory foods are available to their customers.

Cerridwen: A master of small, delicate bakes at Nesta and Elain’s shop.

Tamlin: Once he gets over himself, probably a guard-for-hire to merchants moving from one city to another.

Throne of Glass

Aelin: Concert pianist in one of Orynth’s many theaters.

Rowan: A carpenter. He never meant to be, people commented on what he and Aelin had in their home, paid him to make them something, and next thing he knows he’s got a shop and an ever-expanding customer base.

Aedion: Probably owns a bar in Orynth. Somewhere classy, but free-wheeling.

Lysandra: Travels among Orynth’s schools and tutoring services offering proper sex-ed to older students. Nothing seedy- she tells teenage-pupils how to protect themselves and their partners from pregnancy, disease, and how to take care of all parties before and after intercourse. 

Elide: An advocate for maids or servants mistreated by their employers. Negotiates time off and fair wages until, somehow, she’s invented unions.

Lorcan: Professional fisherman. Would be a hermit, but Elide won’t let him.

Fenrys: A bard who plays mostly in taverns and has an avid following.

Chaol: Like above with Cassian, Chaol will always find himself in the guard profession. It’s his calling and where he thrives.

Yrene: Obviously a healer, no matter where she is in life. High born or low, she will always be a healer.

Dorian: Uses puppets and a hand-made booth to tell stories from books he loves to illiterate citizens or children at different times of day. He wants to share his love of reading to those unable to discover it themselves. Dorian also makes a tidy living writing histories, but he publishes under fake names.

Manon: Hermit- but Dorian’s allowed to visit.

Sartaq: Owns a Southern Continent bathhouse, mostly so he can hang around listening to gossip.

Nesryn: Works in her father’s pastry shop, eventually takes over when he retires and makes it her own.
