it's your first time trying the new sockets at the prosthetic limb clinic. the technician brings the stubbies out and places them on the floor in front of the chair you're sitting in. you're already wearing limb liners, so he instructs you to hold onto the parallel bars and carefully slide your residual limbs into the sockets. his hands are on the sockets to hold them in place while you fully insert your stumps. you feel them touch the bottom of the sockets and shift your weight to get everything fully settled in. then you screw the valves closed to secure the sockets to your stumps.
after that, you stand still and try to balance on the new stubbies. they're very short to start out with and make balancing easier. you try to take some small steps even though you feel a bit unsteady. there's still a long road of physical therapy and practicing with prosthetic legs until you'll be confident at using them. these stubbies are just the beginning.

he's recovering in the hospital and starting to get accustomed to his new legless body now with the recently amputated, matching round stumps all tightly wrapped in bandages where his legs used to be. he's testing out what it feels like to move his residual limbs since he won't be walking anymore like he did in the past.
