Day 30
Wow, the last day. Frankly, I can’t believe it. I’ve kind of enjoyed this documentation of my daily life, but I also find it extremely difficult to keep up with tasks like this that I have to do every single day. Especially if it’s writing. My days tend to vary a lot and I’m forgetful.
Anyway, I got to sleep in this morning, something I desperately needed. I thought I might have left late this morning but I was actually early to my appointment with my advisor. On my way to my appointment, a friend texted me inviting me to go with her to the women’s hockey game tonight, which made me really happy. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to go though because one of my roommates had talked about hosting a game night at our apartment tonight in honor of her bday this weekend.
At my appointment, I was able to talk to my advisor about changes to my study abroad plans, rant a little about my classes, and just talk to her in general about what I’ve got going on, how I’m doing, and my plans for the future. After my appointment, I went to work and I was able to catch up with one of my co-workers; she filled me in on stuff I’ve missed and informed me of some big news -- she’ll be getting engaged (!!!), which is super exciting and I’m so happy for her. After I talked with my co-worker for a while, I had a check-in meeting with my supervisor. We discussed the projects I’ve completed, the ones I’m currently working on, and then my supervisor brought up some projects that I’d probably be receiving in the future.
After work (legit missed the light rail by this much so I had to wait another 10 min ugh; I was handed the flyer pictured above while I waited), I went to the Cube for another interview I was conducting for my second job. The interview went really smoothly; I got a lot of information. Following the interview, I worked on homework for a bit. Then I met my roommate in Smith after her class and we went to Keller to work on homework.
My bday roommate ended up deciding not to have the game night tonight, so I might be going to the women’s hockey game later but plans are unsure at the moment.
It’s been an honor and a pleasure. Stay classy.

Day 29
I left a couple minutes later than usual and barely got on the 121. Again. One of the new gdes faculty candidates came into our web design class and gave feedback as we presented/reviewed our hand drawn wireframes (for our website redesign project). The candidate didn’t make it to my group, so we reviewed amongst ourselves until our professor came over and gave us some feedback. I was with a really great group that chatted and made reviewing really fun.
After class, I hung out with some people from my web design class during my break between classes. They’re super nice and it was cool getting to talk to them. I ate lunch and then I went to screen printing. I’ve gotten frustrated both class periods this week because I’m incredibly behind; I like my concepts but I dislike all my drawings, so I’m not making any progress. Also, I generally feel dumb because I never know what I’m doing and everyone else in the class just Gets It. But I dyed my fabric (see photo above) and I think it was pretty successful.
In discontents, we sat through a reading presentation, and then had time to ask questions about our papers or get feedback on our redesign project concepts. I stayed to ask some questions and then I headed home. I got home, ate dinner, and then started on the paper. I wanted to finish it early but it ended up taking me all night. Proud of it though. Hope I do well. I took some short breaks so I wouldn’t get too frustrated. There was quite a bit of noise in my apartment when I was trying to sleep so I ended up putting headphones on and listening to music to fall asleep. Spotify has this really cool sleep timer you can set; if you’re listening to something to fall asleep, it will stop playing after a certain amount of time so it doesn’t play through the night and drain your battery.

Day 28
My morning was more of the usual. I just barely hopped on the 121, but I was early so it wouldn’t have been a big deal if I had missed it. In text and image, we were going through the formatting of the final versions of our business cards that we would be compiling into a class file and sending off to be printed. It was pretty painful. Especially since our professor had a group of students in our class do the actual compiling, which puts a lot of pressure on them to get it right. I also kept getting shocked by computers which was strange.
My shift at work was way busier than usual. I had to re-package large posters and address them to be sent out, and I had to figure out the new printers at the office so I could print smaller posters and send those out as well; completing these 2 tasks took the entirety of my 3-hour shift. But one of my co-workers came to give me something and it was really nice to talk to her.
At my second job, I received new information and photos from one of my interviewees; the information and photos were all super cool. Additionally, I prepped for the interview with the aforementioned interviewee, writing questions and discussing logistics with my supervisor. Lastly, I created a social media post for an upcoming event.
My roommate met me after work and we walked home together, talking about our day and other stuff. I made dinner (salad and gnocchi) and then I washed ALL of the dishes in the sink and made my lunch for tomorrow (I was being productive but also...definitely putting off writing the paper for this class). I had some other work to do, but I chose to focus solely on the paper tonight. I continued working on the paper, and my goal was to finish it tonight, but I didn’t even get close. I messaged some friends every now and then to give myself small breaks. At some point, my roommate got back from studying with her bf and we were going to make muffins (cinnamon raisin) but one of our roommates was trying to sleep so my roommate decided to make muffins tomorrow since we would probably make too much noise. Then I worked more on the paper for a bit before deciding I needed to go to sleep.

Day 26
Today, I got out of bed later than usual. Yet somehow I still got to the bus stop on time, even sort of early. The whole way to St. Paul I listened to Do Ya by Denny and Less Than I Do by The Band CAMINO on repeat. In text & image, while waiting for class to start, I stumbled across a post on Instagram that had a really lovely art style. I followed the account (@msjordankay) so I could come back for inspiration at a later time.
In text & image, we consumed information regarding our next project; it’s for the Goldstein Museum of Design. I’m actually pretty excited to start working on the project because I think it will be fun and give us a good sense of actual client work, but I’m also pretty nervous. Additionally, I also received feedback from my small critique group about my business cards; they helped me determine final edits that need to be made before we turn in the final version on Wednesday. After class, I didn’t go to work like I normally do because the office was closed in observance of Presidents’ Day. Instead, I went to counseling in Appleby Hall; I brought banana bread (made by my roommate) to my therapist.
Following counseling, I went to volunteer at the honors showcase event from 12-4:30pm. For lunch, we had sandwiches from Surdyk's; I ate beforehand though, so I put a sandwich in my lunchbox to eat for lunch tomorrow instead. The other people working with me were super nice, which made the event that much better.
After I finished volunteering, my roommate met me at Northrop and we hung out for a hot sec so she could finish part of an assignment. Then we headed back to the apartment, stopping at Target to pick up 2 packs of toilet paper; my roommate bought 1, I bought the other ($6 per pack). After we got back to the apartment, I worked on my discontents paper for a while, stopping once or twice to chat with my roommate and her boyfriend. Later, we ate dinner; my roommate made potato wedges and more falafel, and then I ate one of the chocolate covered strawberries leftover from Valentine’s Day. Afterwards, I worked some more, then took a shower, and now I’m going to bed.

Day 25
Today has felt so long, my goodness.
Woke up somewhere around 9am this morning, then laid in bed on my phone for 30 minutes. I only got up and at ‘em because my roommate and I wanted to go grocery shopping a bit earlier than usual to try to beat the rush. And beat the rush we did. We got to Target and there was pretty much nobody there. It was wonderful. Getting up earlier to get groceries is definitely the move. I spent ~$42 on groceries this time, which was honestly great, considering I had to restock several fairly expensive supplies that finally ran out.
We got back and I did a little bit of work -- submitting some forms and tweaking a project. I ate lunch. Spent time on my computer and phone dillydallying to avoid doing homework. Eventually, I forced myself to get back to work (+ listened to this whole album, it’s phenomenal), and then my roommate and I went over to St. Paul so I could print a proof for my text & image class. After that, we went to McGrath to work. After working for a couple hours, we came back to the apartment and my roommate made falafel -- a wip but still so very scrumptious. We ate the falafel with some of the Tzatziki sauce she made (*chef’s kiss*). After dinner, I continued my homework.

Day 24
Started the day off with a shower. And then I threw my laundry in the wash. Then I chilled with my roommate in the kitchen while she grated some cucumber to make Tzatziki sauce (godly stuff). Then I submitted my timesheet for job 2, moved my laundry to the dryer, and then I think I just dawdled for a while, not really doing much of anything, probably just alternating between being on my phone and talking with my roommate.
Then her boyfriend came and picked us up to go to Michael’s so I could pick up t-shirts for my screen printing class. We jammed to some of my music on the way and they liked the songs I picked which was dope. We got to Michael’s, picked out shirts, and then wandered around for a while. Then I bought the shirts (2 shirts, $4 each) and we left.
We then went to Penny’s Coffee in downtown Minneapolis; my roommate bought me a chai latte (which was so good) and we hung out there for a bit. At some point, my roommate and I went to the bathroom; they were on the 4th floor, and on our way back down, we thought “whatever, here’s a stairwell, let’s take that down instead of the elevator.” Then the door to the stairwell locked behind us and we discovered that there was only an emergency exit at the bottom, so we had to call my roommate’s boyfriend to let us out. After that fiasco, we left because I was signed up to volunteer for an event happening in the student union. We raced back to our apartment, I jumped out, got changed and dropped the Michael’s t-shirts off, and then I was dropped off for the event.
As it so happened, I was the only volunteer of the four who signed up for the event to show, so it was just me and the event planner working the entire event. It was exhausting but the event planner is awesome, so it wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been. And I got to take home so much food. It was ridiculous. I had to have my roommate and her boyfriend pick me up after the event because it would not have been fun carrying it all the way back to our apartment. When we got back to the apartment, we had to figure out how to fit all the food into our fridge, and then I ate some leftovers for dinner. I put away my laundry and got ready for bed. Then my roommate and I watched the latest episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I messaged some friends, my roommate and I talked for a bit, and then I went to bed.

Day 23
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Thursday was supposed to be the Cold Day but turned out today was also super cold. I was layered like a lasagna and still pretty chilly. Anyway, I missed the light rail but it was okay because I would’ve been way too early for work. (Good problem to have, honestly.) I waited in Ford Hall because it was too cold to wait outside for 10 minutes. On my way to work, I listened to 2 new songs that came out today: Wear My Love by La Bouquet and Valentine by COIN. Another song I was jammin’ to on this Valentine’s Day was No Time Valentine by Roy English.
Apparently some time after I arrived at work, the owners of the building set up a lovely table with treats for anyone and everyone for Valentine’s Day. Very sweet of them and very delicious. After work, I had to go to St. Paul for a meeting; I really thought Fridays weren’t busy, especially on St. Paul, but the 121 was its usual absolutely-packed around noon. GDSA’s President and I met with the SUA staff in the St. Paul Student Center about the portfolio review event we’re putting on in March. The meeting went well and we ended early, so I headed back to East Bank to hang out in the Cube.
I conducted an interview at 2:30pm for my second job, and it went incredibly well; I had estimated half an hour and it ended up lasting an hour because we just kept talking. After the interview, I went to Fresh Thyme to pick up some groceries for my roommate and for the Galentine’s dinner my roommates and I were putting on tonight. Then I went back to the apartment and unloaded groceries. My roommates had some friends over so we hung out for a bit before their friends all left and we started on dinner. Dinner was amazing -- chicken, mashed potatoes, roasted veggies and potatoes, refried beans, cheddar and chive biscuits (made by yours truly), and chocolate covered strawberries. (My roommate made chocolate peach muffins later -- seemingly strange combo but they are so bomb ohmygod.)
After dinner, we jammed to music and watched some funny videos. Then one of my roommates went to hang with her boyfriend, another roommate went to a party with some friends somewhere else, and my last roommate and I went to the second floor to check out a party hosted by a girl my roommate knows. I didn’t vibe with the party at all, but I won beer pong for my roommate and I, so that was cool. Then I dipped and went back to our apartment.

Day 22
This morning was just like every other morning. I was happy I got to pack one of the grapefruit muffins my roommate made; it gave me something to look forward to for lunch. I really thought I was going to miss the 121 because it got to Jones Eddy before I had even crossed University, but then a lot of people got off a MetroTransit bus, dashed for the 121, and held it up for long enough that I was able to get on. Bless those mad dashers. I did not want to wait out in the -35 degree weather. (I walked out of my apartment this morning and my lungs were immediately like WOO THAT’S SOME COLD AIR.)
On the bus to St. Paul, I thought about working on my splurchase paper. I worked on it the tiniest bit. But I ended up just doing other stuff on my phone. And I reached my 30-day streak on Duolingo (I’m working on Spanish). In web design, we learned about website layout/positioning. After class, I took Quiz 3 for web design and got a question wrong because I wasn’t thinking. Hate it when that happens. Then I posted stuff for my second job and chilled for a hot sec before printmaking.
Printmaking started off by going around and having each person talk briefly about their project 1 prints. I got very anxious in the time before it was my turn, and I was nervous explaining my prints because I get super self-conscious, about myself and my work. After that though, we got to keep working on project 2. I wasn’t able to start project 2 last class, so I spent this class period researching and coming up with ideas. I loved researching myths & legends and it made me really excited for the project. (I love the research part of projects, more than the other parts i think.)
In design & its discontents, talking about the next project and seeing examples got me excited for the redesign project. I’m really worried I’m going to get super overwhelmed with projects soon, though; I have to stay on top of my work and block out/plan my time better. After discontents, I went back to my apartment and called some friends from home; the three of them are studying abroad currently, and because of time zones there’s only a specific chunk of time - around 3pm my time - that works for all of us. This makes it tricky to call. But we managed to make it work today, and I called because I wanted their input on my ideas for my printmaking project (and it was generally just so nice to talk to them all; it’s been a while). I ended up telling them a Grimm fairy tale I discovered while researching today called The Girl Without Hands. It’s a wild ride.
After we hung up, I made dinner (my eyes were way bigger than my stomach tonight; I heated up spaghetti and then made a whole salad. I ended up eating only the spaghetti). Then me and 2 of my roommates + 1 of my roommates’ friend went to my third roommate’s a cappella performance. The event was called Night Songs, and my roommate’s a cappella group was performing with a bunch of other groups. The event consisted of music and poetry that related to the nighttime motif, but a lot of the content also related to the larger theme of the climate crisis. It was a really cool night, I enjoyed it a lot, and my roommate and her group killed it. Every time I go to one of their performances, it makes me want to get back into music and perform. The urge is so strong. I just don’t even know where to start. Anyway, I think we’re going to end the night by watching an episode of Glee. I finished the first season but that was a long while ago and I haven’t watched any since.

Day 21
Today surprised me. It turned out better than I expected.
I went through my same morning routine, except today I put on a nice outfit. Booyah. I left my apartment and ended up walking behind a really slow person, which was annoying, but I passed them after a hot sec. Then I noticed there was a car accident at 15th and University, right near the Jones Eddy stop. The hood of one of the cars looked like it had been almost entirely ripped off, barely attached to the front. On the bus to St. Paul, I replied to a friend about The Dragon Prince, since I finished the 3rd and most recent season last night. (Apparently, their plan is to make 7 seasons? I had no idea but, boy, I am beyond excited. Netflix better pull through.)
Text & image was not as bad as I thought it’d be this morning. A bit boring for most of the beginning (went over some printing technicalities), but then I actually received very helpful and positive feedback on my business cards, which I think very much boosted my confidence and motivation. After class, I left for work and missed the light rail to St. Paul by one minute. I watched it pass on by. After I finally got off the light rail and was walking to work, I witnessed the funniest car interaction: 2 cars were coming from opposite directions, both of them wanting to turn left, but they could not figure out what to do at all. It was highly amusing. Also a little nerve-wracking because of the potential for a car accident. But I had already seen 1 car accident today; unlikely I would see another.
I didn’t have much to do at work, but I was able to work ahead on some projects. At one point, I ended up watching Bon Appétit videos while working. Then I left my first job to go to my second. Again, I missed the light rail by one minute. But this time, the light rail was running about 10 minutes behind schedule. So I was a little late to my second job, but it was all good. I sent some emails, made a list of questions to ask in the first interview I’ll be conducting. After job #2, my roommate met me and we went to Pio (still can’t believe how bougie it is) to table for WWL Recruitment. However, when we got there, their table was broken and there were no supplies for us to use to identify our table for WWL. So we left. On our way back to our apartment, we stopped in at Target real quick, then we headed back.
I made dinner then cleaned all the dishes in the sink while my roommate made grapefruit muffins. Trust me, I was weirded out by the concept too, but they were actually very yummy; the grapefruit taste wasn’t super strong at all, tasted more like cornbread honestly. Then I had my roommate do some user testing for me for my web design class. That was fun. Then I finished something up for job #2 and cited some sources for this paper.
Also, the “Be my loser baby” valentine is so funny. Listen to this song to better your understanding.

Day 20
Today was actually pretty alright.
Getting ready was annoying though because I wanted to wear this particular pair of sweatpants because I had printmaking today, but the sweatpants were kind of dirty? I sucked it up and wore them anyway because I didn’t want to risk anything else getting dirty. I left my apartment on time and the 121 pulled up right as I got to the Jones Eddy stop. Very nice. On the bus ride to St. Paul, I checked social media, listened to music, responded to snaps, probably some other stuff on my phone--the usual. I got to St. Paul early so I went and dropped off my sister’s birthday card at the SPSC Post Office.
In web design this morning, I refreshed my memory on making tables in HTML and also learned some new information about adding color and how that works with different elements. After class, I went and worked on phase 2 for my text & image project. I made quite a bit of headway which made me feel good. Then I went to printmaking, which I’ve come to sort of dread because I never feel like I have a grasp on what we’re doing or how to properly do anything and I always feel silly. But today was exciting because our prof introduced our second project which is creating a repeating print. We’ll get to print it on a second surface such as a tshirt, which I’m pumped about. And our theme is myths and legends which will be super fun to work with. I finished project 1 and turned that in, and I also got to use the power washer for the first time. Fun stuff. Everyone left printmaking a little early, and I used that extra time before my next class to continue working a bit on phase 2 for text & image. Then I went to design and its discontents (y’know, this class), and we worked on our papers.
On my way back home, I bumped into a friend and we chatted on the bus to East Bank. Even though it’s really a kind of mundane thing, it always makes me really happy when I run into people I know. (After I bumped into that friend, I saw someone else I know on the same bus and I said hello to someone else walking home. Usually doesn’t happen.) When I got home, I made dinner then ran the dishwasher and made my lunch for tomorrow. I went on my phone for a bit after, and then I called and talked with my sister. Then I worked on and finished phase 2 for text & image (wow -- finishing homework before 10pm? Never happens.) My head started hurting though; can’t tell if it’s a migraine or what it is, but I took 2 ibuprofen and I think it’s going away so that’s good. And now, to top my night off, I’m going to finish The Dragon Prince.

Day 19
Today in general was not a good day (nothing in particular was bad, just emotionally/mentally bad). But the ending was honestly pretty okay.
I got up on time, even though I really really didn’t want to get out of bed. I went through my normal morning routine -- bathroom, gummy vitamins (for real adults only), outfit, put my lunch in my lunchbox, eat breakfast, and then leave between 7:40-45am.
I started the first reading for this week last night and continued reading it on the bus to St. Paul. In text & image this morning, because I wasn’t part of either of the groups that had work due (my work was due Wed last week), I just spent the whole class period working on the next phase of the project. I think I got mostly done with the first part of the next phase, but the second part is going to be really unpleasant because I’m basically starting all over and the feedback I got was incredibly vague and unhelpful. So that’s a tad frustrating. Anyway, I took a break at some point and went on Instagram; I saw olivverthekid recommended some music on his story, and Alice Oseman posted a compilation of these dope suit-outfits she wore for her book tour.
After class, I went straight to work. There wasn’t a lot to do. I sent some emails and got what work done I could. Then I cleaned my inbox and continued the readings for this week. Throughout work, I listened to my February playlist, then a bit of my Discover Weekly, then study music, then movie soundtracks, and then specifically Pirates of the Caribbean. I finished the first reading and started the second but didn’t finish the second before my shift ended, so I continued reading while waiting for and riding the light rail. I finished the second reading while sitting in Coffman (--so the readings definitely weren’t as bad as I thought they’d be, which was a huge relief; I was just afraid after it took me crazy long to finish the Van Manen reading).
Then I went to a meeting at 5pm and made some palentines (Valentines for your pals), which ended up being a nice, low-stress, fun, and relaxing way to end my day. Afterwards, while I was walking back to my apartment, I saw the sunset which was super lovely and snapped a pic. Then I got home, made dinner, and chatted with my roommate, which always makes me feel better. After eating, I checked a couple school things, scrolled through social media for a while, and then I watched a couple episodes of The Dragon Prince on Netflix; I had to stop because now I only have 2 episodes left, so I won’t be able to just watch one, but I can’t watch another hour tonight. Soon though. Soon.
Oh, also, please check out this post. I cried laughing.
