I never post my opinions on here but let me get on my soapbox for a second. I did not like Arcane season 2. There, I said it. I feel like the character arcs did not progress organically from point A to point B, narrative techniques like music montages were overused and rendered devoid of any meaning, the show juggled way too many plotlines without a satisfying payoff and most importantly: it simplified the political struggles that had been so carefully laid out in season 1, thus deviating from the main themes and ideological debates that upheld the story. Although I am deeply disappointed, I still cherish season 1 for the masterpiece that it is and feel like it can stand on its own narratively despite the cliffhanger; and I respect season 2 and some of the creative ideas it brought us, as well as episode 7, which was brilliant. (Plus, the Jayvik scenes tugged on my heartstrings).

One day you're crying because you think nerve damage won't allow you to draw the way you used to and then boom! you've got a Yamato WIP that blows your older pieces out of the water. (Yes, the mask is meant to represent Kaido)

"The dead request five more minutes,” she would say, and bury her head in the furs.

No but YOU don't understand. Peeta, who's never been anyone's priority being Katniss’ first choice in all three books is something very important to me.
In The Hunger Games, when Peeta's name was called in the reaping, no one volunteered for him including his older brother who is not only old enough to participate but also a better wrestler than him. Even in the arena, Haymitch chose to keep Katniss alive over him. And the only person who prioritised him was Katniss herself. She chose to keep him alive when he was dying. She chose to die with him by eating the poisonous berries. She chose to go as far as defying the Capitol and President Snow to protect him.
In Catching Fire, once again, we heard his family would mourn if he died but they'll eventually move on. Other victors only keep him alive to form an alliance with Katniss. And Peeta still got captured by the Capitol in the end. But Katniss’ first priority was keeping Peeta alive. She made a pact with Haymitch to protect him. She was ready to kill Finnick or anyone on the spot if they dared to hurt him. She clawed Haymitch for not rescuing him over her. She became suicidal when he was captured.
In Mockingjay, Peeta lost his family. Then President Coin and other rebels didn't want to keep him (and other captured tributes) alive. And the only person who was visibly devastated over his capturing and hijacking was Katniss, again. And in the end, she finally chose him over Gale. And ultimately chose to be with him for the rest of her life. She gave him the family he lost and he became the family she lost.
“No one really needs me,” he says, and there's no self pity in his voice. It's true his family doesn't need him. They will mourn him, as will a handful of friends. But they will get on. Even Haymitch, with the help of a lot of white liquor, will get on. I realise only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me.
“I do,” I say. “I need you.”

also, can we talk about katniss's private training session in catching fire? i guess it just finally came to my attention that book! katniss did not hang the dummy because she was just a badass sticking it to the capitol (although that is definitely part of the tinder that fuels her fire). instead, it was because she was protecting peeta. because her job was to "draw fire away from peeta" (cf, 67).
so she thinks of "something that will blow anything peeta did right out of the water" and hangs seneca crane (cf, 67). this shows the gamemakers that they are just as vulnerable as the tributes. that they were all just pieces of the game – disposable.
and i guess i am just really surprised on this reread just how many of katniss's actions in both games stem from her love for peeta. and while both coin and snow only see these acts as those of a rebellious girl stoking the flames of revolution, katniss's thoughts make it clear that her main concern every single time is peeta.
whether it be the berries at the end of the first games or hanging seneca crane in the second, she was always focused on him. keeping him alive. protecting him. caring for him. loving him.
because in the end, that's what everything was about the second the rule changed in the first games. him.

“As we settle in, he pulls my head down to use his arm as a pillow; the other rests protectively oever me even when he goes to sleep. No one has held me like this in such a long time. Since my father died and I stopped trusting my mother, no one else’s arms have made me feel this safe.”

Reblogging bc this artist captured them perfectly. Not just their physical features vut their vulnerability too.
Katniss offering Peeta the nightlock berries (The Hunger Games)
Peeta offering Katniss a pearl (Catching Fire)
I like the parallel because this small thing changed the trajectory of their relationship/storylines so much. The berries allowed both of them to win with Katniss defying the Capitol when she decided against surviving on her own but instead saving Peeta too. And the pearl - it’s just such a sweet just-because gift for the girl who always had to trade and give things in return. And the pearl stays with her even when Peeta is taken, a reminder of the boy who would give her the world without expecting anything in return.
