i’m posting this late lol but here’s my final design for ch.o.w.! I had fun with it :)

The idea behind the design is that since the festival takes place at the beginning of summer, the women decorate themselves to celebrate the sun -- lots of bright yellows and oranges, both in their clothes and in their tattoos. All contestants wear a large yellow lip piercing, and the winner is given a head piece made of tusks and braided cloth, which she coats in the blood of her opponents to display her victory.

a figure/gesture sketch i did earlier this morning and a couple more sketches i just did to get a better feel for my warrior character. i’ve been trying to figure out what was weird about my figures and looking at this one made me realize what it is: the thighs are way too long (and in this case because of that the arms are huge lol) and the calves are too short. i’m glad i figured it out so i know what to avoid on the next one!

working on my design for the character of the week contest on conceptart :) i like this one a lot more than my original idea. this won’t be the final drawing (i fucked up the lineart in a few places and i have a different pose in mind for the final) but i’m glad i’m getting the character down on paper!

trying to get back to the basics a little. i drew this with a reference from istebrak’s PortraitStudio, which is a really cool tool for artists! i’m planning on doing some sketches from a model i made on it tomorrow.

this is the first time i’ve shaded with pencils in ages, and it’s made me realize just how much i prefer markers lol i really need to get a set of grays. it probably doesn’t help that i lost all my actual art pencils when i moved, but this’ll do for now

finished kitsune! i fucked it up towards the end a little. i think it’s too much of the same colors...and the pants got all messed up because i spaced out and made the legs skin-colored on accident and then had to go back and fix it lol. it’s not my best work but i’m glad i finished something without a reference for once!

i sketched this for the character of the week challenge, but i think i’m actually gonna go in a completely different direction with my entry. i might develop this character more later for fun though :)

finished the line art on that kitsune! i’m pretty happy with it so far. i can see flaws looking at it now like those fucking hands jfc but i normally wouldn’t be able to do something like this without a reference so it’s progress. not sure how i feel about the lines i added to the design but we’ll see how it turns out :)

the very rough start to my interpretation of a kitsune. i’ve never really drawn one before but i saw that a recent “character of the week” prompt on Concept Art was about them and it piqued my interest.

in addition to the tails, i want to incorporate some other fox-like elements (the slanted eyes, the pointed ears and pointy twin buns to mimic fox ears, and i’m planning to add some brown to the hands to mimic paws) and some japanese elements (eyebrow shape, hairstyle, clothing). it needs a lot more work and i’m quickly discovering that i suck at drawing baggy clothes but overall i like how it’s turning out so far :)

i’m working on a design for concept art’s character of the week challenge and these are some of the pictures i’m using for inspiration! the challenge is to design a warrior woman from a low-tech tribe and i think i’m gonna base the tribe my character is from on traditional inuit culture. i’ll probably sketch out some ideas tomorrow night. i’m gonna have fun with this one :)
