Hi, I'm Jordan and I'm here to teach you how to keep snails! Snails are super cool, fun and easy pets to care for, and I want you to know how! I very, very much encourage asks, messages and submissions, no question is ever bad or stupid!

Hey there! I'm from Australia as well and I am having a bit of trouble finding places that sell snails. also your tips have been very helpful! thank you!
Hi hi! I really like Minibeast Wildlife for inverts, I got some leeches from there and they were packed really safely. Here is a link for their snailies! I haven't purchased snails to be honest, I wild captured my cornus and bradybaena snails and I got my panda from a friend, so I dont have a lot of experience there sorry haha. I'm really glad you've found the blog helpful!!

how do we feel about very small snails?
many land snails are very small, even some smaller than these, but they’re easy to miss even if you’re already accustomed to looking for tiny invertebrates.
these are different Vallonia species but I’ll need a different angle of the shell for a good ID. At ~2mm, both are full-sized adults; you can tell by the peristome (lip) at the aperture of the shell!

How do we (snail owners) always end up with exactly 10 snails at some point lol
I remember thinking 10 was a lot until I saw this youtuber that has ... I don't want to say hundreds, but probably hundreds. They all look taken care of too <3 I forgot the channel name, but if I find it, I'll let you know
Honestly I do not know, I somehow also ended up with 10. it's just the correct number I think 🤔

I feel like killing a slug with a katana is more humane than sprinkling salt on them and they slowly suffer to death and they shrink up idk

Red triangle slug!
Triboniophorus graeffei
“These unique-looking slugs get their name from the tiny red triangle usually contrasted against a creamy white background that decorates their bodies. However, sometimes, the red-triangle slug sports a yellow, orange, red or pale green coat.
These slugs include the giant pink-to-red slugs of Mount Kaputar and live in lush, wet forests. The Mt Kaputar slugs are one of number of unique snail species marooned 1500m above sea level on an extinct volcano near the township of Narrabri.
Many red triangle slugs can also be found in urban areas. Their slimy, circular trails have been known to decorate fences and spotted gums. Unlike pest species that feast on a homeowner’s beloved veggie garden, the red-triangle slug prefers microscopic algae and fungus”

Hi! I noticed youre also AUS based and ive been struggling to find info that isn't just links to US companies. I found a lil garden snail in my woolies lettuce today and I'm considering trying to keep him. ik they want a terrarium with a secure closure, cocopeat, and a cuttlebone, but what I'm struggling with is finding where to get these from Australia? all the substrate im finding is aquarium substrate and the terrariums seem to be for like plants so theres no secure lid or it won't allow airflow. Any help is appreciated!
Hello my aussie friend, thanks for asking!
So, my cornus (garden snails) are kept in a Reptile One tank, and my panda snail was kept in literally a plastic storage bin from kmart. It doesn't need to be fancy! If you hit up a pet shop, you might find one of those 10L betta starter tanks w a lid, and while they're awful for bettas they're great for 1 or 2 cornus. But, storage tubs are cheap, secure and perfectly adequate for a snail to live happily, just drill a couple holes in the top.
For substrate, in the bunnings gardening aisle (not the outside part with the plants, but the aisle with the seeds and fertiliser and stuff) you'll find these guys
which is what I use. While you're there, I also got a bag of charcoal pieces to put in the drainage layer if you're making a bioactive viv. You can also find pebbles/rocks for drainage layers at bunnings.
For cuttlebone, hit up petbarn or somewhere similar and look in their bird section, you're looking for something like this
I hope this helps!! Good luck with your little friend <33

I JUST FOUND MY NEW HEAVEN IN YOUR PAGE I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. Like, for one, I keep tiny dnails and so my terrarium isn’t that big. It has a really thick (more than a couple inches) of soil as substrate, just dirt. I have about 6 small snails but I barely ever see them hanging out there? They always stay hidden in the back behind the leaves or I can’t see them at all? I thought that maybe they were burying themselves but I keep a good moisture and temperature in there, and yet they aren’t very active at all. Also they barely eat any carrots or fruit I give them, I don’t know if they are just eating leaves or not at all? I’m very confused I just want them to be healthy
Hello my friend, I'm so sorry I didn't answer this sooner, idk how long since you put in the ask but tunglr.hell loves eating my notifications. anyway.
Don't worry! That's completely normal behaviour, a snails goal in life is: eat, sleep, make babies. They spend a LOT of time napping and they like to hide under leaves and decor while sleeping so they don't get spotted by predators. As long as you see little rasp marks or holes on the food, they're eating and happy.
They're fairly simple creatures lol. They're also nocturnal so have a peek at night time and you might see a bit more of them!
