The Archbishop Desmond Tutu said, “Righteous anger is usually not about oneself. It is about those whom one sees being harmed and whom one wants to help.” I wrote this poem today in anger, and as I debated whether to put it out into the world, I thought about that anger. I suppose that the difference between righteous anger and political anger, which the alt-right acted on this weekend, lies in this question: Who or what is that anger working for? For those with righteous anger, the purpose is to one day see all of humanity built up, as one in peace and love. Nazis and white nationalists, on the other hand, are just angry because they perceive the “other” as being in their way of self-aggrandizement. I sincerely hope that my anger will be seen as something more righteous than that.
