wow, look at this, i’m actually on this blog again! but don’t get too comfy, folks! because as you can probably tell by the new addition to my url, this blog is now archived! i’ve been considering giving aryll a new start for a while, and finally got around to doing it!
so here’s the new blog you’ll find her at; same url as this one but without the archive at the end!
it’s highly possible that the site still considers this a new account, so bear with me if i don’t appear in your notifications! that’s just how things work around here. anyway, i’d love to see some of you guys over there! old and new, once i get a promo up for it! and i’ll reblog this post a couple of times as well!

hyrulecast:
She was really persistent. And her story was enough to tug at his heartstrings. Always one to help, never one to turn away, Link’s hand was forced. He sighed giving her one last excuse: “I’m really not the best person to travel with,” following with the resolute and hopeful “But–”
“I might know someone better– a shiekah painter. He’s been all over Hyrule and met a lot of people. He might know who you’re looking for, even. You can stick with me until we meet up with him. Alright?”
While not a definite ‘no,’ Link hadn’t given a clear ‘yes’ either. It was time bought, Another excuse. In all honesty he wasn’t sure if the painter, Pikango, was willing to take up a travel companion so suddenly. Yet Link was willing to take that risk, if it meant giving Amaryllis the opportunity to find who she needed.
A sudden thought he tacked on, almost mindlessly spoken, “I hope you find whoever it is you’re looking for.”
It was never easy for her to convince anyone of letting her do something. Her childlike mind was still in the hopeful state that if she just asked nicely and offered something in return, it would get her somewhere. But not all people were kind anymore. Sometimes even wearing the shade of blue can get people in a pickle, including herself. There were too many things that caused trouble to arise nowadays...
Aryll had looked a little more cheerful when he began to speak again, but it immediately dissipated when it switched to someone better. Better at what? Taking care of her, searching for an imaginary person? She didn’t want “someone better”, she wanted to travel with him!
Alas, it was definitely better than choosing to stick around here, even if her travels with him would be quite short. There was always room for convincing somewhere down the line; she was just too stubborn to completely go along with his idea. Not because she didn’t want to cause any trouble, but because she couldn’t stand being around strangers anymore. Far too many instances of that happening.
With a sigh, she nodded her head in understanding. “ Okay. “ Despite her obvious conflict with the idea, she never did like arguing with people. Especially him. No need to be a crybaby over something like this. That’s just how she was raised; how the family worked. Traveling would mean she’d need to get her stuff, though, so she was just about to go and get them. Her body had just turned around when his hope for her search became known to her.
...There was an uncomfortable silence that occurred. Because, in truth, she had already found them. Just not in the way she remembered them to be. And they didn’t even remember her, or if they did, they were much better at pretending than she was. Once again did her head nod. “ ...Me too. “ If she tried to say another word, she was certain she might’ve burst into tears... so she quickly ran off to grab her belongings.
For once, she even decided to take the stockpile of letters with her. Far too risky to leave them here by themselves. It didn’t take long at all before the girl came running back, bow in her hands and quiver and rucksack mostly covered by her hair. She certainly looked a little happier now... “ Ready! “

hyrulecast:
Stunned into silence Link stepped back staring down at the girl. Odd to him that a strange child whom he’d only just met would be so upset at his parting. He tilted his head at her and frowned, his first instinct was to deny her. To move on without a word, cold and distant as that may have been.
But one look into her eyes was enough to melt any frigid heart. Uncomfortably, Link shifted his weight as he looked to canopy of branches above to escape her gaze. He still felt it tearing into his soul and, being no match for such pains, he sighed and slumped over.
The last stand of his stubbornness was spoken through reluctant, gritted teeth, “I can’t.” Dragging his hand from his cheek to his forehead then through his bangs, he did his best to come up with an excuse, or a bargain – anything. “It’s too dangerous. A-and I really will come back, I promise – I c–I can’t leave that sword over there, now, can I? I’d have to come back for it eventually. So…”
He finally dared to look her in the eye once more as he trailed off, losing his thought, and his fight. But the question still remained, “Why?”
Something she had always been quite good at was expressing something with her eyes. While her expressions may be able to tell lies easily, it was almost always the look in her eyes that gave herself away... but for this, there wasn’t anything to give away. Aside from the fact that she was really insisting on her point. It didn’t help that she had a ton of practice, and it just came naturally to her! If she had to guess, it’d have something to do with the child-like aspect to her...
Well, she was technically still a ten-year-old. She never got to grow up properly.
As he tried to explain himself, however, it only allowed for sadness to enter those eyes of hers. This was sounding all too familiar again, and she was only barely coping to keep it out of the corners that still slightly burned. If he noticed anything, he hadn’t commented about it. Which was a good thing. Because how on earth was she going to explain those forming tears of hers?
It was simple in her mind as to why she wanted to come along. Aryll would be a lot more use out in the vast land than just... sitting here waiting for who knows how long. Sure, she’s already spent a lot of time here, but she wasn’t sure if she could stand to stay for extended periods of time again. But all of that was too hard to explain, or could just be perceived as a silly kid’s story. So... she needed to come up with an excuse. Or a twist on the truth. She couldn’t stand outright lying.
“ ...You have to travel all over, right? I’m... I’m looking for someone. They’re very important to me, but I don’t know where they are or if they’re even going to come here... so... “ Even this felt wrong to her. It wasn’t technically a lie; she was still looking for some trace of that someone after all. Some hope that he actually would remember her at some point. But she wasn’t being too hopeful. It’d be a miracle if anyone even remembered she had existed at all. “ And I know a lot about the land and its history! It’s not good to travel to places if you don’t know the risks, especially all by yourself. It doesn’t matter who you are! “
Hands clasped together, now looking at him with a more nervous look than anything. “ It’ll... It’ll only be until I find them or you do what you need to do... so... please? I just don’t want to stay here when I know they could be out there... “ She’ll be honest; she didn’t have all that much to offer. But something was better than nothing... right?

hyrulecast:
Link’s lips sealed shut, too hesitant to answer. He couldn’t gauge how strong he used to be, but it must be true – he’d grown much weaker since his ‘glory’ days. That was all anyone talked about. And yet the Calamity still got the better of him.
One hundred years in stasis could heal his wounds, but his reflexes were dulled along with his memory. He knew these trials were meant to build up what he’d lost, and to restore the lost faith in the hero’s spirit. But he didn’t know what the end result looked like. Or how long it would take. Or if he even had the time to reach it.
Eventually he’d found his voice again, but at the cost of dismissing her question entirely. “A-at any rate, it’s nice to meet you too,” he gave Amaryllis a small nod before stepping off the stone path quick to make his escape. The Koroks had already offered him a solution to which he’d mechanically agreed to try out. More shrines and more trials – and more monks he had to convince to give him their blessing.
A few parting words spared for Amaryllis as he passed beside her, though his tone was distant like an echo from the past, “I have to go. I’ll be back soon.”
The sudden silence at her question might not have given her a direct answer, but enough context to go on. She wasn’t sure if it had been the wording she used or just the question itself, but she seemed to have upset him in some way... at least, that’s what it looked like to her. But why? Was all of this too much for him? Aryll hated making anyone uncomfortable - especially him - but she hadn’t gotten the message about questions that would be much better to ask.
So she just... stood there. What she was waiting for wasn’t clear... anything, really.
And when she did get something, it still wasn’t an answer. Yet again confirming her question hadn’t been appreciated. But then her gaze followed him when he began to move. At first, she had simply assumed that he just hated standing in one place; she knew she did! Hearing his next words, however... It’s what he always used to say. Back then. In the few times that he did come home, he always had to go at some point, making a promise to return soon. But then one day... he never did. And she was alone. She didn’t want to be alone again.
Against her better judgment, after a few seconds of her reminiscing, she found herself running after him and placing herself in front of him. “ W-Wait! Please don’t go! “ Hands had now been outstretched as if those could stop him even more, and eyes were full of panic. The slight sensation of burning was felt in the corners of her eyes, but she chose to ignore it.
But now there was a problem with her sudden outburst. He couldn’t stay here and Aryll knew that. But if she stayed while he continued on... whatever journey he was on, her heart would never have a calm moment again. Eyes had darted to the ground, seeming to change her gaze to something insignificant like a stone or blade of grass every couple of seconds before looking at him again. “ A-At least let me come with you! Please! I know I can help with something! Anything! “ Well, anything except sword-fighting. She had no clue about that!
Now her eyes had just turned into sad puppy-dog ones. She really didn’t want him going without her. Not again.

hyrulecast:
He never expected home intrusion to expand to the great Hyrule Forest, but he could see why anyone would want to live here. It’s peaceful. Far away from monsters and safe from bandits. Until one strange man shows up unannounced trying to take the resident magic sword.
He hesitated an answer, then stiffly pointed to the sword in question behind him. He felt its overbearing presence explanation enough, plainly stating, “That.”
Though the fact it was still in its pedestal betrayed that the sword itself wasn’t willing to partake in his destiny just yet. It was cold and unwelcoming to the would-be hero, draining him of nearly all of his life force before he let go. In spite of this, the Koroks still took to calling him ‘Mr. Hero’ and looked upon him with childlike reverence and awe.
Attempting to get ahead of his reputation, he offered his name, simple as it was, “I’m Link, by the way. – Who are you?”
Anything could be perceived as strange in the forest, aside from the Koroks and creatures that naturally need greenery like this to live and survive. People were definitely not a common thing to find here, especially more than one at any given time. Despite all that, it was obvious the residents of these woods were more than happy to accommodate for any and all guests they had wandering in!
Probably a good thing for her too... she’d have no idea how she’d handle without such kindness.
Aryll’s gaze quickly went to the sword, simply staring at it for a couple of seconds before turning it back to him. “ The sword? So you must be the hero then! No one would come looking for this if they weren’t! “ There had to be a conscious reminder in her head that she needed to act like she didn’t know too much from about a century ago. She didn’t look the part and had almost nothing to prove it aside from letters and occasional journal entries to herself when she got bored.
...Ah, right. Her name. She could just take the risk and give her real name, but then she’d easily be associated with the belongings she had left here when first going out to travel. And who knows what that would do at this point... So she’d just refer to herself as she always did to other travelers now. “ Amaryllis. Like the flower? Nice to meet you, given the circumstances. “ Gaze once again returned to the sword, confusion now on her face. “ That sword’s been here for a long time... but you should’ve been able to remove it from the pedestal easily. Are you weaker now? Or is it just the sword? It can be quite hard to remove something from stone if it’s been there for a while! “
Now she was back to simply being curious, and perhaps a bit naive. If there was one thing she didn’t know much about, it was the sword itself. So having it still be in its place even with the hero’s attempt to remove it was baffling for her.

hyrulecast:
The Lost Woods felt so peaceful and serene. Of course it was the place the Koroks would come from – it was hard to tell there was a looming threat to all of Hyrule just beyond the fog and trees. That put their carefree and childish attitude he was so familiar with into perspective. As much as Link could breathe easy finally visually free of one ‘destiny’ casting its shadow over him another, the Legendary Sword, would take its place reflecting the light of bitter judgement his way.
His hand never left the hilt, but he’d stop trying to lift it from its pedestal at the behest of the Deku Tree. Or else risk hurting himself. Lost in a sea of thought he’d heard something behind him he was about to shrug off. The second noise snapped him back to reality and he cast a puzzled look to the nearby Koroks who danced excitedly and pointed to its source.
Link turned, expecting yet another forest sprite. Probably one as distinguished as Hetsu, but the dull expression in his face gave way to one of shock.
“Uh… hi.” he briefly waved to the girl without a hint of recognition in his voice. A moment later he’d registered the question and spun it around on her, “What am I d– what are you doing… here? Are you lost?”
There were only a few things one could expect to be doing in these woods... the Koroks never needed much entertainment, and it took time for them to make something if they suddenly wanted or needed it. So there was little in means of comfort or enjoyment, meaning that someone would only really come here looking for something. That something in question probably being the darkness-sealing sword. It was one of the most distinguishable things here. Oh, and shrines.
Those are apparently quite important for some reason... she had been told that lovingly.
Even if it had been something she had told herself to expect, she couldn’t help the slight sadness she felt that he didn’t seem to recognize her at all. But she wasn’t going to go out of her way to try and make herself properly known just yet... if this encounter meant anything, it was that he was kind of at an important stage right now. Aryll would hate to have to take away from that importance just to get some closure after so long.
So instead, she smiled as her arms gestured out slightly. “ I kind of live here! I... wandered in one day, and I visit occasionally. “ It wasn’t a lie; she really did just wander in here. With intent to do so, sure, but she’d leave that detail out. “ I don’t recognize you, though... which is why I asked what you’re doing. “ Well, she does recognize him. Just not what he was doing. Again, she wasn’t going to express that. Feet brought her closer again, hands now going behind her back as she began to sway on her feet. “ You’ve still to answer that question, by the way. I’ve never seen these little ones get so excited over something! ...Well, someone. “
Just in case he had forgotten that she had actually asked the question first! And she wasn’t going to go without an answer. She was far too curious!

@hyrulecast ( plotting call! )
There were times where exploring and waiting around in safer areas of Hyrule got a bit too... much for her. Now there were more dangers to consider than those she had familiarised herself with growing up, and it was still a bit difficult for her to get used to them all. Some days, Aryll even considered just going back to one of the villages and waiting there... they wouldn’t question a child like her turning up, she has visited quite a few times.
The Lost Woods, however, was far more appealing to her. There weren’t as many threats to deal with there, and she had little friends to look after her! She had already been there for a couple of days, and every time she walked into the woods, she found herself struggling to convince herself to walk back out again. Was there really anything stopping her from just... waiting?
Her friends normally never got too riled up, they always had something to do and kept noise relatively low when she was trying to sleep. Something that wasn’t so consistent anymore... but for some reason, today they were being extremely loud. Maybe that was because some of them were right next to her, trying to wake her up. Did a monster wander in? Or did something completely harmless just spook them? Wouldn’t be the first time that happened...
So Aryll simply let the Koroks lead her to whatever was bothering them, as she always did. And very quickly found herself coming to a halt.
While the Koroks had gone on ahead to greet their guest ( They just really liked company! Especially this Hylian. ), Aryll found herself unable to move past the tree that she was now partially hiding behind. That couldn’t be... could it? Here? Now? She had been told that he would have to come here eventually, but... what was he actually doing here? Did she sleep for longer than she intended? Had the time already come for the Calamity to be dealt with? ...Was she still sleeping? Dreaming?
“ Um... “ Voice finally deciding to pick itself up after taking a moment to cough silently, sounding a little rough. She didn’t think she’d be needing to speak, so she hadn’t thought about drinking a potion or something to make her voice clearer. Now her throat was paying for it. So instead, her feet began slowly moving her towards him, hands clasping together to fiddle. To anyone, she just looked like a scared child that happened to wander in here. “ What are you... doing? “ Was she even speaking loud enough? Surely she must be, there weren’t a lot of loud noises in the woods.
Plus, she was also trying to figure out what he actually was doing... it was confusing. To her, at least.

Aryll’s hair can be a nightmare to deal with, especially when she’s just waking up for the day. It was bad when she was younger, but it was easier to maintain back then as her hair was shorter... but now her hair is too long for her own good, mainly because she doesn’t want to cut it by herself / doesn’t know how short she wants it. So she just handles it by putting it in ponytails and hoping for the best. She wouldn’t hold it against someone to mistake her for a monster with that crazy bedhead of hers in the mornings, though!

at the moment, you want...
to run away
your heart at the moment desires to run. it's haunting, chasing you, booming louder. sometimes it's distant enough that you can handle ignoring it, but now, it's so loud. maybe you've tried to face it before, even fight it. you may have failed, or possibly succeeded, but you spared its life, and now it has returned. maybe you never fought it, and simply kept running. and now more than ever, this feels like your last resort. your mind is telling you that you need to run, to run, to run, faster and faster, to lose sight of this. to shake it, because you couldn't shake it before. but is that the right solution? will it really solve anything?

@hyrulecast; ⭐️ for the big bro Link?
Muse Headcanons ( accepting! )
While Aryll is definitely the more talkative of the two both pre-calamity and during the events of the game itself, that doesn’t mean that she hasn’t picked up on her brother’s tendencies to remain silent. This didn’t happen when she was younger because she always liked to make it known back then; back when she wasn’t forgotten about. But when your own brother doesn’t remember who you are anymore after finally finding him again?
She knows how burdened he is. Knows how much of a burden telling him that there’s only one family member alive from the Calamity. She chooses to be silent about who she actually is to him for his own sake, hence why she refers to herself as Amaryllis around him when she does actually meet him again. It also helps to keep them both out of trouble with the Yiga Clan in particular.
