Remove the White Supremacists

Dear Tumblr @staff, 

In light of the recent white supremacist terror attacks worldwide: 

We, the Tumblr community (your community), implore you to change your previously passive policy against white supremacy and white nationalist extremist ideologies. 

Every major news station, social expert, and experts on extremist ideologies have identified that these extremist ideologies are spread and grown on online platforms: specifically social platforms. They have identified the major ways that communities can confront these violent extremist views; the biggest one being for social media groups to actually start removing user accounts that post and spread extremist white nationalist dog whistles, memes, and rhetoric.

Your users are begging for your help in stemming the rising tide of xenophobic violence. As has become evident by the recent terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, these ideologies don’t begin with violence, but with strategically spouted rhetoric and hate speech that riles up others who are vulnerable to being persuaded by their subtle methods. 

Please.  If you support the safety of your users.  If you support the Muslim Community. If you support the Jewish Community.  If you support People of Color.  If you support your users regardless of color or religious background. 

Then it’s time to start taking a proactive stance against extremist white supremacist and nationalist ideologies and remove them.

This is incredibly hard to do, but I just got back from one of the most amazing events I’ve been to with such wonderful people, and I can’t stand the thought of there being this kind of person in the community while people don’t know.

Nimja Hypnosis is a pedophile. These are emails between the two of us in 2013, when I was 14. I was a stupid kid and made bad choices regarding viewing things online I shouldn’t have, and I was lucky because this didn’t progress far enough to have utterly damaged me, just leave small scars. We moved the conversation to skype shortly after this, so I don’t have the messages that prove he knew I was 14, but he did. When he found out about that, his response was something along the lines of ‘yes, you seemed like you’re under 16’. Please, please, be careful of him and once again, if you’re on my blog and under 18, GET OUT OF HERE. I DO NOT WANT YOU HERE. Please, don’t push yourself to be ready for things you aren’t, and trust me when I say anyone you would get involved with at this point does NOT have your best interests at heart.

Why I Gave Up Cosplay

Since gaining 70 pounds 2 years ago due to my health problems, I have pretty much lost my love of cosplay. And it makes me really sad because I enjoyed it so much. But the part I loved most about cosplaying was bringing the characters I love to life. And I no longer feel like I’m doing that because all of the characters are super skinny and I’m fat.

I was always curvy, but now that I’m so overweight, cosplaying feels completely different. Even the amount of response I got about my cosplay changed. Not that I cosplayed for the attention, but it was disheartening to see the positive feedback go down after I gained weight.

Maybe it would help if I saw more plus sized cosplayers out there. I’ve seen a few and they are awesome. But I’m talking about only a handful of them compared to the millions of skinny ones out there. There’s so many characters I still want to cosplay, but I just don’t have the confidence to try anymore.

I hate to ask this… but would you mind liking/reblogging this if you’re a plus sized cosplayer or if you think plus sized cosplayers are great and enjoy seeing them bring your favorite characters to life, even if they are not the same size as the characters? Like I said, I hate to ask this. But I really need the positivity and confidence boost right now.

How to help your artists - The circle of influence.

So over the past 10-15 years, as I’ve been trying to branch out, grow a following and sell commissions, there’s one phrase I’ve heard more than any other.

“I’d love to support you, but I have no money.”

And you know, I get that. I understand. I don’t have any either. But here’s the secret. The most powerful and useful thing you can do to support an artist? It doesn’t cost a penny. Reblog their posts, signal boost their commissions, advertise their patreon./ If you have commissioned them, or do support their patreon? Write a review, tell your friends, share their links. Keep circulating the tapes.

Every post is an artist laying themselves bare before you. You have the power to make them into somebody. You can make them into a big name, you can help bring them an income. All you have to do is share.

Here’s a handy infographic.

If artists get only likes, they never get any exposure. They find no followers, they make no money, and feel worthless.

But with reblogs, who knows how far they could reach? New people could see their work and follow them, and maybe one person will spot that commissions post or patreon promo, and maybe offer to help support them. And it didn’t even cost those followers a penny to reblog the post.

So please, anyone out there. If you enjoy an artist’s work and can’t afford to give any monetary support, you can give them something more powerful. A voice.
