Factors to Consider in Buying a Motorcycle Helmet
Shopping for a motorcycle helmet, especially for a first-timer, can definitely be exciting. It can also take a long time considering the dizzying array of choices and features that should be weighed in prior to making the final purchase.
But what should buyers have in mind when shopping for a motorcycle helmet?
If one would ask motorcycling experts they will always advice a newbie to buy the best, safest and highest quality helmet their budget can afford? Why? Because the riders life depends on it. Period. Moe importantly, if the rider will regularly have passengers, then he must ensure that his passengers will have helmets of their own that could fully protect them.
The Motorcycle Legal Foundation has underscored how crucial it is for every rider to have a reliable, durable, safety-tested helmet before going on the road.
“According to the NHTSA, In 2016, 2,089 motorcyclists lost their lives by not wearing a helmet. Almost all states have a helmet law that requires wearing one while riding. Be sure you wear a helmet that is DOT certified or compliant with the current European safety standard 22.05. The DOT-certified helmet should have the manufacturer name, model, the text FMVSS218, and DOT on the helmet.”

Unsafe Helmets
The Hawaii Department of Transportation Highways also came up with a helpful guide in determining whether a helmet is safe or unsafe. The guide has been printed in their official webpage. Shark Helmets http://www.shark-helmets.com/
“Remember a DOT sticker on the back of the helmet and proper inside labeling do not necessarily indicate that a helmet meets all DOT requirements. Many helmets have counterfeit DOT stickers and a limited few also have manufacturer’s labeling. But the design and weight of a helmet, thickness of the inner liner, and the quality of the chin strap and rivets are extra clues to help distinguish safe helmets from non-complying ones.”

“We use the most powerful software programs to develop our helmets, from using a 3D printer to make prototypes to using the same programs used in the aerospace and automobile industry. We rely heavily on CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) studies in order to optimize the aerodynamic profile of our helmets and their penetration in air, in addition to reducing the ‘buffeting effect,’ acoustic nuisances and the aerodynamic drag coefficient (CX). Each year, we develop breakthrough technical innovations to continually further our progress in both performance and user protection.”
