01/24/2021 IP Update
This past week I have done 2 interviews with friends talking about the pandemic and how it has affected their mental health. Using the interviews, in the upcoming weeks i will design and create layouts and spreads for them to be featured in the magazine.
I have also spoken to other creatives and have gotten volunteers to submit writing entries of their own experiences to the magazine and I can also design around and to fit the theme of the magazine.
I’ve been playing a lot with illustrator and teaching myself how to create interesting and playful compositions with text and I’ve started to plan out of my photo shoots.

11/08/2020 Update
This past week I have been finishing up my 2nd annotated bibliography for the course. Some themes that I have been researching have been more color associations, the stigma around mental health and its care-seeking prevention, the idea of “redundant clothing” and how this plays into predicting mental illness, and more ways in which mental health and the idea of “madness” is portrayed in TV and film.

50+ Assignment:
I’ve been working with collaging magazine elements and annotating my collages! With these, I’ve been getting a better sense of what pieces I want to include in my final clothing line.

Mental Health in Fashion Survey
I created a survey to assess how people feel about mental health and its correlation with fashion. I created questions based on the connection between the two that asked about mental health in the media, color associations, what colors are associated with anxiety, isolation, thoughts on denim, etc.

Update
This past week, I have been focused on working through my sources for my annotated bibliography. I learned a lot of the psychological effects of Covid-19 on mental health and the idea of cyberchondria. Cyberchondria is using the Internet as a safety-seeking behavior, which then in turn can cause more anxiety and distress to users who are looking for answers.
Beyond Covid-19, I have been doing research on fashion and fashion photography, how mental illness is portrayed in the media, and the psychology of clothes. These sources were really helpful as they gave me lots of ideas in how I want my clothing to be perceived and what colors trigger certain emotions for people.

ΠMagazine
This magazine is Berlin based and aims to be bold and experimental with their fashion, poses, makeup, hair, etc. The magazine aims not to focus on fashion trends per say, but rather to focus on the talents of each individual involved.

Polyester is a self-published zine that deals with intersectional feminist fashion and culture. It aims to bridge the gap between online/ digital cyberfeminism and the real world.
Polyester has a lot of cool layouts and uses a lot of bold colors and vibrant and confrontational imagery. I like the confrontational imagery and I think it could be really cool to relate back to my project in regards to mental health.

Inspiration from Cactus Magazine
I an unable to pull images from inside spreads unless I buy them, but they are available on the website. Cactus magazine was a fashion magazine started in 2015 and has a large focus on publishing, art direction, and visual culture. Cactus acts as a multifunctional creative studio.
Cactus is really cool because they play a lot with their models in regards to their clothing, makeup, and poses. It shows emotion through a new and more exciting lense that is not the typical editorial model poses/ images. Cactus takes a lot of risk in their issues like including naked bodies, interesting collages, and dealing with taboo subjects.
