Original Content Peer Review 3
The audience usually knows how to access the college's social media space primarily due to the widespread familiarity with social media platforms and the efforts made by the college to promote its social media presence. Individuals may learn about the college's social media space through word-of-mouth recommendations from friends, family members, classmates, colleagues, or mentors. Positive experiences shared by others may prompt individuals to search for and follow the college's social media accounts to stay updated on campus news, events, and initiatives. Just like this post made on November 15, 2023:
This post has the most likes and comments out of the entire page, not only is it engaging the current student body but it also is possibly reaching friends, family, and other graduates from this student’s year which would also explain the extra participation made on the post. And since it is directly about the specific graduate’s achievement one can infer they would spread the news of the recognition by word-of-mouth. Is the content easy to follow?

One way to keep information easily accessible on a social media page is to pin posts, as seen here: Pinned posts are prominently displayed at the top of the college's social media profile, it is one of the first things visitors see when they land on the page. This increased visibility can lead to higher engagement rates as users are more likely to interact with content that is easily accessible. Also because this post remains at the top of the social media profile until it is unpinned by the page administrator, it ensures that they have a longer lifespan with continued visibility compared to regular posts. Such longevity allows pinned posts to continue generating engagement over time, even as new content is posted to the page.
What could I add to talk about the adverse effects of pinned posts if any?

Isn't it curious how creators can't easily access such valuable insights about their own content? After all creators invest time, effort, and creativity into producing content, so having access to comprehensive analytics and data is crucial for understanding its performance and making informed decisions in the furture.
How I’m collecting data
I chose to use my Tiktok account to pull data from. As the only social account I have that is public, this was my best option. I collected data by viewing the likes, comments, and favorites, which were viewable from my account. However, I wanted to analyze this data comparing it to the number of views on each post, so I added that category as a column in my chart. The one difficulty I ran into was finding the number of shares for each video. I attempted going into analytics in the app, but couldn’t find any sharing data. I solved the problem by using a friend’s phone to view my account, and that’s where the number of shares was visible. Strange creators can’t easily see themselves!

As someone who also has ADHD I (obviously as I scramble to get in my missing post) agree that waiting til the last minute helps kick my productivity into high gear, but it can also lead to unnecessary stress! That's where dividing up the project comes in. What needs to be done? When does it need to be done by? These are two questions you're already asking so why not break it down into one more and ask the most important one which is: how can I chunk it down into manageable chunks?
Week 4 original content 1
share how you are dividing up the project so you complete small parts each day
So to be completely honest with you I do wait til the last minute to do most things , I feel like sometimes the pressure really does help me complete the project in a manner that I find to be seen as adequate of the professors guidelines and what they’re really looking for . I usually try to help myself think when does this need to be done and I kinda block out the day for it . I really do feel like sometimes listening to a really fast pace song like the music to Mario kart does work which in theory sounds like it completely shouldn’t help me and would be distracting but it’s not and actually very helpful for a person with adhd

Original Content Peer Review Request
Segmenting the audience based on factors such as demographics, interests, or prior engagement can help tailor content to different knowledge levels. By understanding the diversity of an audience and their varying levels of knowledge, content creators can create more targeted and effective communication strategies. Several elements of the content can provide insights into the audience's knowledge. The depth and detail of explanations provided in the content can also indicate the assumed level of audience knowledge. Content that offers basic explanations or introductory information may be intended for a general audience or individuals with limited prior knowledge. In contrast, content that delves into advanced concepts or assumes prior understanding may be targeted toward a more specialized audience. For example, in the posts below made by the web writer of Millerville’s English and World Languages Department’s Instagram, the location is only specified by the building and room number or club event over a specific address, implying these posts are aimed toward students who would know their way around the campus over an external member of the audience. (The film club schedule, posted on February 5, 2024 & Valentine's Day events, posted on February 7, 2024.) Are there any sentences or phrases that are unclear or difficult to understand?

Week 5 Content Writing
Share an example of a data piece you recorded that surprised you: One piece of data that surprised me was that in the posts I selected from the English and World Languages Department’s Instagram was that the pinned post of the department's directory had less interaction than others on the page. This is surprising because a pinned post is one of the first that you will see on a social media page and for this one which is mainly focused on informational posting and events I wonder why the longer viability time doesn't draw more engagement on this particular post.

Week 4 Original Content Writing 3
Share how you are collecting data, why? I collected data on the Millersville's English and World Languages Instagram and I collected posts with a wide variety of engagement, low and high. I also made sure to choose posts ranging in dates and one that was also a video post. I did this to help my analysis and better understand what was and wasn't working for these posts. It help me recognize what posts the audience engaged with over the other. For example, if you collected all the posts from the same week with the same format it might not be helpful to your analysis so you can see how different content resonates with an audience.

Week 4 Original Content Writing 2
As you are collecting data - what patterns do you expect to emerge? Why? Patterns in engagement metrics such as likes, shares, and comments can reveal which posts resonate most with an audience. I expect to see certain types of content or topics that consistently receive higher levels of engagement than others. Same with post timing, I think posts made on weekends might have more engagement due to class schedules and students having more time to check social media and checking posts to see updates to events that they might want to attend in the upcoming week.

Week 5 Check-in Post
What is the best way to incorporate imagery, color, or even storytelling/writing techniques to help make a 'paper' more engaging to read?

Week 4 Original Content Writing
Breaking down large projects into smaller, more manageable tasks and tackling them incrementally each day, is important so you can make steady progress towards goals while avoiding overwhelm and burnout (something I am once again remembering the hard way.) Because I've been struggling lately to get projects and posts done on time it is hard to get going again once you've lost your footing but what helps me is to remember that it's okay to struggle sometimes and setbacks are a natural part of the learning process. But as a learning process that also means you can't just give up and there are always resources you can use and lean on when needed!

Week 4 Check-in
My main question after working on the data analysis practice project is what is the biggest insight someone can look for when the data is relatively consistent despite posting a variety of content? (Even though a page is posting images, videos, or blog post with varying subject matter the posts still generate similar amounts of engagement.)

Original Content Week 2
Starting courses requires a LOT of organization. Post a picture of what you do to start a new semester organized? I make a point to create a new folder within my Google Drive for each class in my semester which is placed in a subfolder named after that semester (ie: Spring 2024>WRIT 318). This way no matter where I am I can keep my files updated and synced across my devices no matter where I am. Share your note-taking strategy - this course requires NO textbook, how will you stay organized with your notes so you use the key concepts, complex ideas of content, and complex ideas of information as the semester progresses? I organize my notes by having a separate notebook for each class I'm in, writing the chapter, key ideas, and the date if it is for a lecture-based class in the top margin while taking notes and making references to any page numbers if I am writing notes during a reading assignment. This method has always worked well for me and more often than not I can always find the notes I am looking for easily by flipping through the notebook and only looking at what is written in the top margin. Theory post: What is content? Content can be anything! Textual content, multimedia content, interactive content, social media content, E-commerce content, educational and learning content, gaming content, this list could go on for pages. I'm focusing on just web content which encompasses a vast and ever-expanding universe of information, entertainment, communication, commerce, and creativity. The internet's open and accessible nature empowers individuals and organizations to create, share, and consume content in a multitude of forms by shaping the digital landscape in profound ways tailor to a users experiences.

Who am I as a writer?
I wouldn't consider myself a writer, at least not a very good professional or academic one. I struggle a lot with writing research papers especially ones where I am not totally invested in or thoroughly informed on the topic. What I find exciting about this course is that it has promise for a more casual writing opportunity where we will be learning about content quality over grammar and other rules that govern what is perceived as "correct" and what isn't in written language. Working with these weekly posts and deadlines will hopefully not only help me get better at documenting my artwork but also provide me with a routine to continue to do so even after this course. While I am always at least trying to become a better writer I think this course will also test my ability to describe and convey my own thoughts and observations about my pottery. This is something I am constantly asked to do and I find it to be one of the more difficult aspects of being a BFA student.

I agree! With all of the formal writing one does ineviably as a college student I am excited to be able to have a more creative output where everything doesn't have to be so cut and dry. I'm also excited to see what direction others might take with these assignments too!
What is Web Writing?
I see web writing as an alternative form of writing that doesn't have many restrictions and guidelines regarding the writing process or style. For example, web writing is less formal than writing pieces like essays, however, even though they are brief, they can still include important information. Also, different from essays, web writing should be accessible, interactive, and engaging on top of informative. I also believe that web writing is more personal than the other forms of writing as you can express yourself without all the rules that more formal styles of writing include. For example, on Tumblr, I’m able to personalize my profile and add images to my posts so that others can both see and read my thoughts.

Hi Kylee! I'm Lainey and I'm right there with you about having some anxieties with the class! Though everyone I've met through Millersville has been very friendly and inclusive so I believe that will translate into these posts as well. Plus as we get used to writing and completing these tasks hopefully it will only become easier and easier. I also would like to hone in on my own casual writing style and how to best make posts that won't come across as overly or under-specific while also being tailored to the types of audiences I would like to reach with my art.
Thursday Check-in Post:
Hey! My name is Kylee! I am anxious to be in this class and see the interactions between posts and on social media.
What do you want to learn about writing from this class?:
Something I would like to learn about writing from this class is how to better hone in on a type of writing style. I feel my writing can be awfully specific at certain times yet very different at others. I typically am very straight forward when writing especially for class assignments. I like to use factual information and give the most important details in order to get the / a point across. Overall, I am someone who likes to answer the question straight on and make sure every aspect in answered completely. #writ318mu #week1 @npfannen

Check-In
What I would like to learn from this class is the ins and outs of content creation. What is the best way to create engaging and sharable content that aligns with my "brand" and will resonate with an audience? I am a BFA student and plan to become a college professor in ceramics. Still, I would love to learn how to build my own brand and sell my work to consumers, art lovers, and other pottery enthusiasts. Social media is a huge opportunity and tool I would be missing out on to not use, developing a solid social media strategy could make my end goal with my pottery a lot easier. @npfannen
