I saw two reasons on this

1: Cassandra was something of a demon (@pico-newgrounds corrected me on this [Cassandra’s actually a space alien creature thing], but it works for the comparison) and she was red. Pico associates red with Cassandra, and Cassandra means trauma, which means red means trauma, so he didn’t see Girlfriend. He saw Cassandra.

2: G A Y

tbh i love the winning scene in pico mode where he’s shooting the cutouts and one of boyfriend shows up, and he doesn’t shoot it, and then one of girlfriend shows up, and he just obliterates her

This thing is her paralysis demon. It stands at the foot of her bed. SCREAMING. Begging for her to stop looking, begging for her to look away from it, begging her to let her live in peace.

(Mini oneshot to try and re motivate myself. TW mention of suicide; technically actual suicide as well)

“WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!” It screams, pulling at the rope around its neck. “STOP LOOKING AT ME…! STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT…!” I want to. I want to help it. I want it to stop crying. I want it to stop screaming, I want it to stop feebly pulling on the noose as if it can kill itself again. But I can’t. I’m frozen. I can’t move.

“JUST LET ME BE.” It hisses a final time. It sounds like it’s drowning. “LET ME LIVE WITHOUT YOUR STARES.” I can’t speak. I want to say sorry. I want to apologize for ever looking, I want to apologize for being born and torturing it like this. But I can’t move.

“JUST LET ME GO!” It screams a final time, then the rope snaps upward. And then it fades to dust. I’m shuddering. I’m crying. I’m scared. I don’t want to move.
