I don't think younger/newer users fully grasp the shit show that ace discourse was around 2014-17

It was so hostile that, to this day, discussions that begin to derail just enough can make me physically nauseous, some specific mockery trigger crying sessions years later. We lost most accounts with any sort of ace positivity. There was no information, no support, and all this damage was done predominantly by other queer people.

All this to say that you, however you identify yourself, should be engaging with aphobic comments the same way you do any hate. We don't sugarcoat or try to be comprehensive with people who are blatantly racist, homophobic or terfs, so why give it a pass just because it's coming from a queer person? I see how this tolerance goes and it's done enough damage as it is.

I think a lot of the discourse on here, esp about intra-community issues, comes from the perspective of people who are a part of pretty insular leftist queer communities and assume everyone else engaging w their writing is too. so you have stuff like “white trans people are celebrated when they come out” or “everyone wants to fuck transmasc genderqueer people” as statements people are making, which are very very true in some cases from within these really insular communities but seem like you’re blogging from another dimension to people who like, live in small town Iowa.

Frankly, I’m concerned less about how the expanded list of blocked tags on iOS is going to impact fandom content and more concerned about how blatant Apple is getting with their horseshit. Like, it’s obvious to anyone with half a brain that the actual aim of banning the word “antisemitism” is to prevent discussion of antisemitism, not to prevent antisemitic content itself, and they’re not even bothering to pretend it’s not. As much as we’d like to believe otherwise, the people behind these policies aren’t stupid; Apple knows they’re creating a walled garden where posting hateful content on social media is more acceptable than pointing out that such content is hateful, and it’s difficult to imagine they’re unaware of exactly who that walled garden is going to end up being most welcoming to.

the list of tags that are being hidden from ios users is truly insane. not just terms related to mature content, but also a bunch of tags related to various triggers and social issues, and super general stuff like "selfie," "girls," "mine," and... "stimboard," for some reason??

like. this isn't actually going to solve whatever content problem tumblr is having with apple. it's just going to make people stop tagging shit
