How many of you consciously practice gratitude in this day and age? Does it come naturally for you? Do you immediately feel thankful when anyone does anything for you? Or do you need to remind yourself occasionally, to be more thankful? 🌬 Recently, I started writing down my blessings, 10 per day, for the things I am grateful for. It is somewhat ironic that I do this with a selfish goal in mind. I do it to regain my sanity. 🌬 In the past months, I had been feeling disconnected to the closest people around me. I was steeped in feelings of dissatisfaction, disgruntlement, impatience and irritation during all waking moments of my day. The contrasting emotions of elation were few and temporal. Over time, this translated into an overall dissatisfaction with myself and my life, and slowly... despair crept in. I was in despair that people would never match up to how I wanted them to be in my head. In despair that the life I wanted so desperately refused to materialize at will, and seemed to remain infuriatingly, out of reach. 🌬 I wouldn’t say I lapsed into depression. I merely felt a pervasive hopelessness regarding the mundanity of my life, crushed by the limitations of my abilities and time. 🌬 It is important that I mention The Magic by Rhonda Bryne, the book I utilized to propel myself out from a crippling period during my early 20s. I am not advocating that anyone needs a tool or an instruction manual to practice gratitude, but I have always been a person who craves structure and organization, so idiot guides like this one are supremely effective on me. The Magic had been niggling at the back of my mind since I last picked it up at the age of 23, after I got a job and called it a day. Needless to say, the homework this book required of me now had been long overdue. 🌬 (Cont in comments) (at Emerald Hill, Singapore) https://www.instagram.com/p/By5WOVcHv8n/?igshid=1vxlych9w3qxb

I tried jjimdak for the first time when I was in Seoul last year. Surprisingly I found that it tasted a tad bit local, much like the pork/chicken dish cooked in black sauce right here in Singapore. This shows how deeply the many Asian cultures are linked as we all very likely share common ancestors. It’s a fascinating study of our roots, DNA & geographical history. I intend to take a DNA test in the future to learn more about my ancestry. I’m highly curious about the generations that came before me, since it is a known fact that my ancestors came to Singapore on a boat from China on both sides. It would be fascinating to discover what other genes I could possibly have in the mix, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some Korean in there too!
