Slamlandia is back at Guilder (inside Powell's Books, Inc.) for another poetry open mic on Thursday, August 3rd, with a feature from Jae Nichelle. Sign ups start at 5:30 PM, show kicks off at 6:00 PM. There is a $5 suggested donation. This reading is just a poetry open mic + featured reading (check out our other monthly show if you're looking for a poetry slam). Poets get 3 minutes on the mic. Slamlandia & Portland Poetry Slam present this Pop up Poetry Fundraiser / Reading, featuring the amazing @snapperdoc! Please join us at @honeylattecafe from 7-9 PM on Friday, August 4th, for this very special event. Doc will be reading a set of new poetry for all who attend. There will be a few poets opening for Doc's set - readers TBA. Doc Luben, a staple of the Portland poetry community, experienced a house fire in May of this year that devastated their home and made it unlivable for the time being. While Doc and family were unscathed, experiencing a fire is stressful and awful in so many different ways. All proceeds from this event will go towards Doc rebuilding their home and reestablishing stability in their life. Here's what you need to know about this month's feature: Angel Kofsky (@angelkofsky) is a non-binary spoken word poet and the Grand Slam Champion of the final Java Monkey Poetry Grand Slam, whose work has been featured in Nailed Magazine, the Atlanta Fringe Festival, 7 Stages Theater, and various venues around the country. Here's what you need to know about this month's @guilder_pdx feature: Camille McDaniel is a Southern California-based poet, fiber artist, and copywriter. Her poetry has been published in Rue Scribe, Variety Pack, $, Sundress Publications' A Body You Talk To: An Anthology of Contemporary Disability, and was a finalist for the Frontier Poetry Industry Prize. She recently graduated from Community Literature Initiative's poetry publishing program, where she completed her debut book, Blood, Skin, and Water. Camille has lived in Boston, Harlem, Paris and (a true Sagittarius) is constantly fighting the urge to make another drastic change in scenery.
