I always wonder about this scene
Till is pushing the hand that touch him but then realize it's Ivan and just let him be
It's either (oh it's Ivan then it's ok) or (oh shit it's Ivan there's no point fighting him anyway)
Which is it till
WHICH IS IT

We know that Ivan's THE yearner that has always his eyes on Till and is convinced that he doesn't care about him
But every time that Till has his eyes on him without being provoked first Ivan has always his eyes closed

Actually devastated by the central theme of the Io and Till comic.
Io loved him and yet she knew she couldn’t protect him. She couldn’t keep him. In this world, she doesn’t have the luxury of keeping something as precious and fleeting as Till. He’s a tool and she is his maker. She brought him into a world where she fears he will only suffer. And Till has suffered. Till has suffered so much.
But Io wanted him to be loved. Prayed that someone could ever possibly love her baby as much as she did because she knew one day she couldn’t offer him love anymore. All a mother can hope for is that someone will love you like you deserve when I’m gone.
And someone did.
Someone loved Till. Someone protected him. Someone’s entire life was driven by love for her baby.
Someone on Twitter pointed out that Ivan’s name means “gift of God.”
Ivan was Io’s gift from whatever being she desperately prayed to.
Ivan didn’t think he mattered to anyone, but look.
He was everything Io ever hoped and begged the universe for for her child.

reading some cale quotes for fic purposes and i can't believe how much you can forget when you blitz through 1000+ chapters in less than two months.
like, cale curses so much. so much. i guess i didn't really internalize it since it was spread out over the whole novel, but he has such a dirty mouth and literally every time he mentions his enemies, he's cursing up a storm.
"i don't care if he's lived a thousand years or not, that shithead is a fucking bastard from now on." cale henituse, on the greatest threat of the whole part one of the novel. he's so eloquent.
i forgot how snarky his internal voice is. actually, maybe not forgot. just, kind of got used to it? until i stopped registering the absolutely sick burns he keeps dishing out on the regular.
it takes him until chapter 270 to realize that he should have just let choi han beat him up. that seems like a lot, but we've still barely reached the eastern continent. adin is still alive. cale doesn't even know who the white star is. the trouble hasn't even started.
also, at one point he actually admits to being raon, on and hong's parent??? out loud??? i can't believe i missed that, the whole dodori thing distracted me.
"raon. I’m someone who cannot forget. don't be like me." i didn't actually forget this one, but it feels like a gut punch every time i read it again.

yoohankim makes me sick to my stomach. they each spent countless years circling around each other living for each other and writing for each other and reading for each other and they met so briefly but so passionately that it set another thousand years of rotation into motion and theyve remembered each other longer than they known each other and its all so.

Cale Henituse is the funniest bastard to have as an MC, he's a unreliable narrator and everyone sees it. He wants to slack off and says world peace needed first before that.
Hates cats yet adopts two and plans to make a third king, scams people constantly, the most skewed perception of how to be a trashy man. Says he isn't a good person, does things that help people constantly, justifies it saying cause he didn't have pure motives for doing it it's not a good deed so he's still a bad person. Adopts a dragon even though he said he didn't want it near him cause he'd be in the middle of crazy situations, said by the guy who puts himself in situations constantly all the time. "I don't care about this old man assassin and want him to leave as soon as possible' several chapters later when said assassin comes back hurt and dying "What the fuck i'm going to blow up an island the bastards behind this are on" Yeah he blows up an island, says 'well the ships can just sail a bit further so it can go no biggie.' Said explosion is several times bigger then it should be, cause of his chronic inability to communicate with anyone ever. Stop saying shit exclusively in your head dumbass! He coughs up blood constantly from rebound his powers cause, fails to understand why anyone is upset by this sight when he's 'fine'. Has a healing power, fails to disclose that too to anyone. "I'm weak." Says this fucking idiot, while blasting his charisma aura that makes you feel like your going to die at people who have no idea it's a buff and take it seriously. While using a giant fuck off shield to block bombs. While blasting people with a thunderbolt that can blow up a forest. He's so stupid /aff I want to bite him like a chew toy and shake some sense but we all know he'll never get any.

i was rereading some earlier chapters and i was really struck this time by the coin farm arc and the arc with kim dokja's bully immediately afterwards because it provides such a strong contrast between what is and isnt acceptable in the star stream that really highlights orv's messages about sexual violence against women.
we know that in the world of omniscient reader's viewpoint there are taboos, there are actions you can take that are so wrong you will be punished for them. one example is cannibalism, which in this world is an act so vile it turns you into a demonic monster, whether you ate it because you wanted to or because you were starving to death. but sexual assault is not one of these taboos - there is no punishment built into the system for it.
not only does the system not punish it, it actively rewards it. money, power, attention from constellations - all of these are things you can attain through sexually assaulting someone, namely women as far as we see. m all incarnations are dehumanized to an extent, all pain seen as a form of entertainment, but this is a unique and extreme form of it. incarnations are objects of entertainment, but these female incarnations are specifically sex objects. women's pain and women's bodies are used as commodities explicitly bought and sold within the star stream. it is an exaggerated form of the real life objectification women experience in our society, and the resulting normalisation and fetishization of women's pain. so this commodification of sexual violence, this degradation of women's bodies and pain is allowed by the star stream because it mimics our culture's same actions, our own societal taboos (or lack thereof).
over time in the novel the distinctions between man and woman matter less, with gender based violence becoming basically non existent. but in the beginning there is this heavy feeling that to be a woman in this apocalypse and in this star stream is very different than to be a man. in this world and in the last, to be a woman is to be not just a commodity but a sexual commodity for both constellations and male incarnations.

for real i think that ascribing even a significant percentage of kim dokja and yoo joonghyuk's feelings and actions towards each other as being motivated by romantic love will HEAVILY flatten your understanding of their relationship. there's so much going on there - projection, rivalry, frustration admiration, feelings of betrayal in many cases, comradeship, alienation, understanding, desire to save and protect - that loses a lot of its complexity through a standard shipping lens. and I'm saying this AS a yhk shipper. i think their relationship at the end of the story could meaningfully translate to a romantic connection but there's so many other things going on besides that!

I'd be going around my day and suddenly remember the scene where Cale slapped White Star because that would be more insulting than a punch. Or the scene where he hit the White Star with a pebble reinforced with his ancient power while screaming out his frustrations like a mad man. Or the scene where he coughed up fake blood while being carried on the back of 'his secretary'. Or the scene where he got misunderstood by the White Star as someone who has lived for centuries to defeat the latter. And when he broke it to the poor bloke that he in fact achieved everything he did in a little over two years time. And especially this scene from White Star's first appearance.
– Just who are you? Of course, the problem was that the final boss continued to speak in Cale’s mind. There was something that was an even bigger issue. ‘How does he expect me to respond to him?’ Cale started to frown. ‘Am I Eruhaben-nim or Raon? Do you think I can speak in people’s minds? It’s not like I can just randomly shout, ‘I am XYZ!’ in the middle of the battlefield!’
Realest! A true protagonist would have done exactly just that without thinking about how it would look like to the onlookers. Cale, my Scorpio King, thought practically and pointedly ignored this motherfucker. These are the times when his Scorpio shows so much it's hard to ignore. He doesn't let it show to the others but his inner thoughts are always overflowing with so much sass.
