conflict between two members has been going on ever since kirei joined the boys. three weeks go by and kirei decides she has had enough of it, but perhaps getting involved wasn’t the best decision.
⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
every family fights. i knew that, however i didn't expect it to happen so soon in stray kids. when i first met the rest of the boys, they all seemed to get along perfectly. they all seemed incredibly close during that first practice we had together. but it had been nearly three weeks since then and i had quickly caught on to the conflict happening between jisung and hyunjin. i also discovered, from jisung, that there was no specific reason for their feud; they apparently just didn't get along.
when i first noticed the snappy comments between them, all i wanted to do was get them to stop. i felt this urge to try and resolve their conflict, but seungmin discouraged me from doing so, saying that it was probably best that i didn't get involved. i understood at first, whatever their issue was it wasn't any of my business. however, as these three weeks went by i had to admit that the whole feud was starting to become more and more of my business, and everyone else's too.
the constant nagging between the two was tiring and always brought the mood down whenever the group was practicing, we could never catch a break. even if it was their issue, it was affecting the whole group. i can always see it on the members' faces, the look of irritation or fatigue. so it became evident to me pretty quickly that their business was also my business, it was the whole group's business.
not all of us happened to live together just yet, so far there was only a few members living in a dorm together. the company had told us that they would let us all move in once we started shooting the reality show, so for now i was living alone in my parents house.
my parents are currently living in my hometown, gold coast, back in australia. but they own a house here in seoul, which i've been living in by myself for the last few months. this meant i could escape the arguing when i was home, but this still has never stopped the constant urge to intervene anytime hyunjin and jisung fight.
today happened to be a bad day, i arrived to practice late because my bus from school got delayed. i also left my umbrella at home this morning, not aware that it was meant to rain, and got soaked on my way back from school. and the cherry on top was that i forgot to put a change of clothes in my locker at jyp, meaning i had arrived in a drenched school uniform with nothing to change into. minho has very kindly let me borrow his spare clothes, which consisted of merely grey sweatpants and a black tshirt.
i was not in a good mood to say the least, and i was certainly not in the mood to hear any arguing between hyunjin and jisung.
the practice started off normally, with a quick warm up and some stretches like we usually did. we also started learning some choreography for warrior's descendant, the song that we'd perform at the upcoming showcase. it was just about one month away so we has time to practice and perfect the dance.
there was one particular move that jisung seemed to have trouble getting the hang of, which didn't really matter for now as we had a lot of time to practice before the showcase. hyunjin, however wasn't letting him off the hook.
"jesus jisung you can't even do this simple move, how the hell are we going to able to debut if you keep making small mistakes?" hyunjin remarked, frustrating jisung who didn't hesitate to snap back.
"at least i can rap and sing properly, shame you're only good at dancing"
usually i was patient with the two of them, but my mood today definitely did not have the patience to tolerate their pointless arguing. usually i'd try to think before i say anything or try not to raise my voice, however i wasn't in the right head space to do this today.
"oh my god can the both of you stop arguing for once? it's tiring and it's bothering everyone here,  grow up guys." i snapped mindlessly, not realizing an argument would break out afterwards.
"yah, it's none of your business. so stop trying to get involved in something that doesn't regard you. if it bothers you so much you can go back to the female trainees." he spat, looking directly into my eyes with a vicious stare. it was probably the first time i had ever made actual eye contact with him too. i was to angry to even care about what he had said about me, all i wanted was the feud to stop.
"hey hyunjin don't say things like that" minho butted in. hyunjin didn't pay much attention to him however.
"look leave kirei alone she hasn't done anything, all she wants is peace, but your too much of an ass to make any effort at all" jisung said, defending me. i appreciated his defence, but i also wanted to speak for myself.
"you're making it everyone's business by constantly starting shit!" at this point i was just mad, mad that he wasn't listening, mad that he was being selfish and disregarding how everyone was feeling.
over the last three weeks, i hadn't had any trouble getting to know the others guys. i was able to get really close to them, even changbin who had been awkward for the first week — turns out he was just overwhelmed by my addition do stray kids, but also constantly reassured me that he did want me in the group. the only person that i had made no progress with whatsoever was hyunjin. even when i tried starting up conversations during or after practice, he'd always give me short responses and just walk away. there was simply just zero effort being made, and it was becoming extremely frustrating honestly. this probably added to the reason i was getting riled up.
"okay guys! cut it out! seriously!" it was bang chan's loud voice resonating through the whole practice room that made the three of us silent. we all stared at him, not knowing what to say at all.
"i'm honestly really disappointed in how unprofessional the three of you are being right now. kirei, you're right, the bickering is incredibly tiring for the team, but raising our voices like this only makes it worse. i'm expecting more from you three in the future. so please, just cool off for the rest of the practice and figure this out peacefully in your own time." bang chan finished, clearly not impressed in how the three of us had acted today.
in a way, i was frustrated that my efforts were being discredited. but i ultimately understood chan, he was only doing his job as leader. perhaps i had acted irrationally, we all would have been better off talking about everything privately.
the rest of the practice went by without any more snarky comments. i think the two boys got the message, loud and clear. when practice finally came to an end, i noticed chan giving the three of us a look, a look that seemed to be encouraging the three of us to talk. so, i said goodbye to the other guys as they packed up their stuff and left; i once again thanked minho for the clothes.
soon the practice room was left with only myself, jisung and hyunjin. not wanting to waste anytime, i immediately began to question hyunjin.
"look hyunjin, i have absolutely no problems with you. i want to be friends, so if i did anything to you can you please talk this out with me? for the sake of the team." i questioned, he seemed to have let his guard down quite a bit. he sat down cross legged on the floor, jisung and i quickly followed.
"i'm sorry i've been such an asshole to you for the last three weeks, you really don't deserve it i'm just an idiot." he said running his hands through his hair, visibly annoyed at himself. he looked up at me, and i gave him a look encouraging him to continue.
"i guess, when i first met you during that monthly evaluation i had been crushing on you for a few weeks and i was just shy and awkward. i got over it pretty quickly but when chan mentioned you were joining us, i don't know, i just felt weird. and when you finally came, i just felt even more awkward because i didn't know how to react this whole 9 boys - 1 girl concept. either way, it's no excuse to the way i've treated you, especially today. so i just want to say sorry, i really am." what chan had said seemed to have really made hyunjin think, because he had poured his entire heart out in a matter of minutes.
i felt grateful that he had finally let his guard down and told me what was going on. i had to admit i didn't expect him to have crushed on me, but it was in the past, nearly two years ago, it didn't matter anymore. on the other hand, i could sense how jisung  felt in that moment, probably not expecting hyunjin to open up like had.
"i understand hyunjin, and thank you for saying all of that. i accept your apology. i just hope that we can be on good terms and get close now" i stated, to which hyunjin nodded and gave me a warm smile. in three weeks he had never smiled at me like that, it made me happy.
"well, i guess i'm done here then" i said, getting up from the floor and grabbing my things. i looked at jisung, who's was begging with his eyes for me not to go. but i knew that it was better if i left them, it was their issue not mine and they needed to figure this out for themselves.
"please try to talk things out, i don't care if you guys aren't best buddies afterwards. just at least try to resolve it or agree to be professional. i'll see you tomorrow boys." i finished before walking out of the practice room. i felt satisfied with how the day had wrapped up, sure it had it's ups and downs but i learned a lot.
we were a family, and no family is perfect. we argue, we fight. but in the end family is family, the love will always be there.

kirei’s birthday vlive
Tumblr media
stray kids 9th member au,, m.list
kirei has been so distracted by everything happening around her that she hasn’t had the time to reflect, let alone think about her birthday. only a vlive with her members and with stays will cheer her up and bring her out of her gloomy state.
⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
december 10th 2019, a day that seemed to have come to soon for kirei. her twenty first birthday. she had been so distracted by everything happening around her and the group that it all appeared to fly by so fast.
and soon enough she was sitting in the jyp office early in the morning, waiting for the staff to signal that they were live. she was seated at the end, centre of the table between seungmin and changbin.
the members were all very distracted, lost in their own small conversations as they waited to begin the live. kirei, however, was just quiet. she had been looking forward to her birthday for months, yet now that it was her big day she didn’t seem to be in that same state of mind. she wished that she could be happier at this very moment.
seungmin did not let kirei’s demure appearance slide and reasurringly placed a hand on her shoulder, snapping her out of her thoughts.
“today’s your big day, what’s got you looking all miserable?”
the despondent girl looked at him and shook her head, letting him know it was nothing too important.
“nothing in particular, it’s a mix of everything i guess. it’s all going by so fast that i just haven’t had the time to stop and think about it all, today has just snapped me out of it and finally got me thinking.”
seungmin did not move his hand of her shoulder, instead grabbing her other and pulling her into a hug which kirei gladly reciprocated.
the staff soon interupted the multiple convorsations flooding the room, giving a warning that they would be pressing the ‘live’ button in less than thirty seconds.
depsite feeling a bit down, kirei was excited to go live. she hadn’t really communicated with stays in a while, not even posting on the official instagram, so she was looking forward to reading their comments.
“and three, two, one”
the staff stepped away from the camera, and leaving the office. they would only return to tell them when to end the live, leaving only stray kids and the stays.
“hello!”
the greeting was loud, synchronised and filled with excitement from all nine members. the others, they too had clearly missed stays as much as she had.
“yes, so today we are live to celebrate a very special occasion”
chan took the lead while the members nodded along to his statement, their eyes later averting to kirei’s figure in the middle.
“as you may know, today is our kirei’s twenty first birthday.”
the members all clapped and started celebrating, yelling out random gibberish that was practically inaudible to kirei. she could only laugh at them. changbin, who was sitting to her right, grabbed her shoulders and started to shake her as he celebrated. it was very chaotic to say the least.
kirei had been so distracted by the chaotic nature surrounding her that she hadn’t even noticed jisung leave and come back with a cake. it was only when the lights dimmed that she finally took notice of him, standing behind her with a lit cake at hand.
the sight of seeing the people closest to her, singing to her the iconic birthday song was enough to warm her heart and forget about everything on her mind. she would treasure moments like these forever. as the song came to an end, chaos made a return as the members continued to yell and celebrate as kirei blew out the candles.
“what did you wish for?”
minho asked her curiously. in all seriousness, kirei had forgotten to make a wish. she blew it off, there’d be more birthday wishes in the future. the lights turned back on.
“minho hyung you can’t ask that! it won’t come true if she tells you”
hyunjin had slapped minho’s shoulder playfully, who proceeded to jokingly wince in pain.
“i wished you would dissappear oppa”
it was kirei’s turn to joke. minho pretended to cry as the members laughed and made fun of him. kirei tried keeping a straight face but ultimately failed.
“i’m joking, i love you!”
kirei said this, well yelled, while making a heart shape with her fingers and directing it at minho. in response to her gesture he winked at her, earning laughter from the others. chan was quick to move on.
“so kirei! what are your goals as a twenty one year old?”
the members all looked at her curiously. she expected one of them to make a funny comment, but none did. she smiled at the fact that they were all being nice to her because it was her birthday, knowing very well that on any other day they’d all be joking around.
kirei didn’t have to think long about her answer to chan’s question, even though she had never really thought about it before.
“i’d like to be a bit more positive about bad situations that happen in my life. i think i let it all get to me this year that i didn’t have time to enjoy all the good things that happened. so, i want to have a more positive mindset and tell myself that everything is okay and will all get better.”
the members looked at her in awe, letting out 'oh’ sounds. they seemed surprised at how she opened up like that on a live, or perhaps at how 'cool’ her answer sounded.
“woah kirei that was an aweseome answer.”
the members clapped again, making kirei feel slightly embarassed. however she quickly moved on and grabbed the phone placed on the table, which had been playing the live.
she carefully read the comments as they popped up on the side of the screen, smiling at all the birthday wishes the fans were sending her.
“thank you stays for the kind comments. i know that it’s still early, it’s 8am woah! you guys are probably on your way to school or work, so i hope you all enjoy your day.”
kirei said while staring at the camera in front of them with a big grin on her face. hyunjin proceeded to read a comment.
“my day is already great now that i’ve seen your pretty face kirei noona”
all of the boys all cringed out loud as hyunjin read the comment, which had clearly been left by a high school boy. kirei laughed and thanked whoever had written the comment.
“right! kirei doesn’t know this but we’ve all brought our birthday gifts for her here, and she is opening them on the live.”
chan exclaimes and the members, again, began to cheer while kirei sat in her seat confused. she had clearly not expected this, she thought they would wait till later on in their day once they had finished the asc shoot. but she couldn’t help but smile at their dorkiness.
“i want to go first! ah my gift is so great it’ll be hard to beat”
jeongin seemed extremely excited as he raced out of his chair and towards a corner of the room, where kirei assumed the boys had left their gifts. he ran back to his seat even more energetically than when he had left it, which kirei didn’t think would have been possible. the young boy handed her a medium sized box, which kirei smiled at.
she shook the parcel, but no sound was heard from the interior. curious as to what it could be, kirei opened up the box and was surprised at the sight of a small envelope.
“jeongin-ah, was this really necessary?”
she exclaimed as she grabbed the envelope from the bottom of the box, earning laughs from the other boys. after moving the box off the table she carefully opened the envelope, which revealed a folded piece o paper. she took it out with a visibly confused expression plastered onto her face.
“what is this?”
the members continued to laugh at her facial expressions, she was holding the paper as if it was a bomb.
“ah noona just open it!”
kirei did what jeongin instructed, unfolding the piece of paper and reading its contents. her face quickly changed as she read the sheet. it was a plane ticket to gold coast, her hometown in australia. her hometown that she hadn’t been to in seven years. kirei covered her mouth with her hand after dropping the piece of paper onto the table.
the members curiously looked at the sheet as seungmin grabbed a hold of it. he read out its contents as the others looked surpised and started clapping for the youngest. kirei quickly stood up to hug jeongin who had been standing behind her the entire time. the boy excitedly hugged back.
“jeongin that is so thoughtful!”
exclaimed hyunjin. the members all agreed and kirei seemed extremely happy. there were no tears though, as she didn’t cry very often.
“thank you innie, i haven’t been to my hometown in seven years so this really means a lot.”
the boys quickly moved on as they realised that they did not have much time left, because they has a shoot quite soon.
“alright me next!”
changbin yelled as he handed kirei his wrapped gift. the girl excitedly opened up the wrapping paper and was delighted when she saw that he has gifted her a coloring book.
“woah! i was just thinking about how i wanted one of these, thank you binnie”
hyunjin was next to give kirei her gift. he handed her a box which kirei gladly opened. she reached for the object inside and pulled out a polaroid camera. she looked at it, clearly excited, and proceeded to thank hyunjin.
“i know that you like polaroids yet you don’t have one, so i bought you one”
kirei thanked him again before being handed a bag by minho. she looked at him suspisciously, knowing that if anyone would give her a strange gift it would be him. however, as she peered into the bag she couldn’t help but laugh out loud and close it up. the members looked at her in confusion.
seungmin quickly peered into the bag and smiled at minho, trying to hold back his laughter.
“sorry stays but i don’t think we are allowed to show this on the live”
the other members gathered around the back, taking turns looking into it and each laughing afterwards. they wouldn’t tell the fans exactly what it was, but they all found it hilarious that minho had chosen to buy her five full bottles of vodka.
“yeah, i didn’t realise we would be opening these on the vlive”
minho stated while scratching the back of his neck. meanwhile the fans were going crazy in the comments, continuously spamming asking to know what the gift was. maybe one day they would tell them.
“kirei open my gift now!”
jisung impatiently said as he too handed her a bag. kirei once again carefully examined the bag, knowing that the last bag contained five litres of alcohol. however she knew jisung wouldn’t gift her that and opened up the bag. a smile creeped its way onto her face as she pulled out a beautiful notebook with her named written on it.
“i noticed you were running out of space on your other one so i got you a new notebook, and it was custom made too!”
kirei gave jisung a big hug and thanked him. she tended to write down all of her lyrics into her notebooks, which ended up quite messy and ruined. however seeing how pretty this one was, kirei felt the need to take special care of it. felix was next to give kirei his gift, also handing her a bag.
“another bag? this better be better than minho oppa’s gift.”
the members laughed at her comment. kirei reached into the bag and grabbed whatever was inside. she stared at the book she was holding, which read 'please look after mom’ on the cover. she smiled and thanked felix.
“oh lix thank you so much! i’ve been wanting to read this for a while now.”
he high fived her, feeling satisfied with her reaction to his present. seungmin then handed kirei what looked like a photo album. she curiously looked at the front of it, then at seungmin who signaled her to open it up. kirei did as she was told and opened up the album to its first page.
she smiled. it was an album filled with pictures of kirei, as well as her and the members or her friends. she noticed that all the pictures had been taken by seungmin himself.
“seungmin-ah this is so cute! i love it a lot, thank you.”
kirei continued to flick through the album as she said this. there were quite a lot of photos, some dating from their group trainee days till last month. it was a thoughtful idea that kirei loved.
“i went through all of my pictures and picked out the ones of you, as well as some of us and got them developed for this album. i wanted it to be a thoughtful gift”
kirei hugged him before putting the album away, reminding herself to take the time to properly go through it. chan was the only member left. he handed kirei a big enough box which surprised her.
“channie, what is this? it looks big”
the boy grinned at her. kirei squinted her eyes at him before opening up the large box. she let out a sound of awe as her eyes fixed the beautiful record player inside of the box.
“this beautiful chan! i love it.”
she went up to him and gave him a big hug.
“i also got you some records from your favorite artists”
this would have to be one of kirei’s favorite gifts she had ever recieved. she had always wanted a record player but never found the time or opportunity to get one. kirei regained her spot at the centre and the members prepared to end the live. chan would be the one giving the closing statement.
“alright stays! we hope you enjoyed celebrating kirei’s birthday with us, sorry we can’t stay longer but we have a shoot very soon so we must go.”
kirei quickly added onto chan’s statement.
“oh, and don’t forget to watch our new music video and to listen to the levanter album!”
the members laughed and all waved at the camera, saying goodbye in synch.
“bye!”
the staff, who had reentered the room not long before, ended the live and the members quickly began to get their things together to head to the after school club shoot.
as kirei was packing her bag she felt her phone buzz in her back pocket. turning it on, she couldn’t help but smile as she read her message notification.
💙💙 : happy birthday sunshine, i love you.

it is finally time for kirei to meet the boys. with not a hint of nervousness, it is an understatement to say she was excited to make new friends, but will the boys feel the same about her?
⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
meeting the rest of the team is something kirei would have expected to be nervous about, but surprisingly wasn't. she was more happy than anxious, almost as if she had used up all the nervousness in her body when she was in jyp's office.
if chan wasn't next to her, kirei would have likely skipped to the practice room because of how excited she was. and knowing felix was there only made her happier.
however, as the two reached the practice room door, kirei realised that she had no idea who else was in the group. nor did she know how many boys there would be. she knew felix would be there, as chan had told her, and she assumed woojin might be there too considering he was with chan earlier outside jyp's office. but other than that she had no clue.
kirei thought chan would open the door immediately, but to her surprise he didn't. instead he held the handle and looked at her.
"you nervous?"
kirei made a stank face, recieving a chuckle on chan's part.
"are you kidding? not one bit."
chan smiled and nodded at her, signaling that he was going to open the door. okay, kirei might have exagerated when she said not one bit, because she did feel a little anxious as she stepped into the room behind chan.
however, upon hear the countless heys and hellos, kirei could only smile at how kind these boys seemed. she greeted them back with a simple hi, completly forgetting to introduce herself. but thankfully chan noticed and did it for her.
"so guys, this is kirei. and she's gonna be apart of our team so be nice to her."
the group of boys responded with a yes, which wasn't very synchronised but that didn't matter. as chan introduced her, kirei scanned the boys' faces. there were some that she knew, some who's faces she recognised, and some she had never seen before.
kirei looked at chan, who was looking back at her. he raises his eyebrows, as if he was telling her to say something.
"right! sorry, um well you guys know me now but i don't know everyone here so, would you guys mind telling me your names?"
some of them smiled and laughed at her request, but introduced themselves neverthless.
"well, i'm seungmin. if you need any help or have any questions you can ask us. please feel comfortable around us."
he said with a smile. kirei immediately smiled back, she was thankful that he was so accepting and kind to her.
"yah seungmin, you sound like a tour guide saying that."
kirei couldn't help but laugh at the comment that was made. the boy who roasted seungmin was unfamiliar to kirei, she had never seen him before. thankfully, he introduced himself next.
"i'm changbin, and i'm cool i guess"
a lot of the boys let out no's and other words of protests as changbin spoke. sitting next to chanbin was a face that kirei knew very well. the australian boy smiled at her.
"well i'm felix, but you know me already"
kirei nodded, earning some confused looks from the other members.
"noona helps me out a lot"
he said, clearing up the confusion. the others nodded in understanding. kirei couldn't help but cringe when she heard felix call her noona, she was only a year older than him.
"oh, noona! what age are you then?"
kirei looked at the boy who asked. he looked quite young and had the biggest smile on his face. she couldn't help but smile too, his smile was quite contagious.
"i'm 17, born in 1999"
she saw changbin, the boy dressed in all black, raise his arms.
"wahh! me too! we're same aged friends now"
kirei laughed at him and nodded, hold her fist out for a fistbump. the boy gladly bumped his fist against hers.
"oh, well i'm jeongin. i'm born in 2001 so i'm the youngest here."
the girl could already feel herself going soft for this kid, he seemed so kind and innocent. she could tell she'd be babying him a whole lot.
"uhm, i'm han jisung."
kirei looked at the brunette wearing a beanie, she recognised him. he had heard about him from other trainees and she had remembered seeing his monthly evaluations. he was really talented.
"oh yeah! i know you, you're super talented."
jisung awkwardly smiled, as if he was shocked that she knew him.
"thanks, i think you're very talented too."
kirei was also shocked, she didn't think that anyone outside her friends and fellow female trainees really noticed her. but apparently they did, and kirei couldn't help but smile.
"right, i'm minho, and born in 98' so you better be calling me oppa"
the girl laughed, she didn't mind having to call him oppa. he was older afterall. besides, kirei was pretty sure that she was older than most of them so having to call one or two of them oppa wasn't so bad.
"okay sure, oppa"
minho gave her a thumbs up, as well as a sneaky wink that only she noticed. kirei laughed and directed her eyesight towards woojin, another face she recognised.
"well you know me too, but i'm woojin."
kirei smiled thankfully at him. she knew him through chan, as she would often see them together during lunch breaks which she would sometimes join.
she noticed that there was only one person who hadn't introduced himself yet, but kirei already knew him.
"i'm hyunjin, welcome i guess"
he made an awkward face as he spoke. kirei smiled, hoping to get him to be more comfortable around him. she met hyunjin through a monthly evaluation where the trainers paired them up together. he didn't talk a whole lot and he seemed quite shy so kirei didn't really know much about him.
"okay! well now that everyone knows each other, let's have our first training as a team. it doesn't have to be anything serious, we just need to get used to practicing as a team."
chan stated. kirei couldn't help but smile at him, she could tell he was a natural born leader. she also couldn't help but smile as the boys would help her and talk to her throughout the practice. the only two people who didn't really approach her were hyunjin and changbin.
she could understand hyunjin, but kirei couldn't help but wonder why changbin was staying so far away from her. maybe it was his personality, but it bothered her a little bit. kirei brushed it off, and continued to focus on the practice. whatever it was, she would deal with it later.
kirei felt happier than she had felt in a while. the boys were being so nice to her and it made her feel so welcome.
she could tell that they were going to make a great team. that they would become a family, and kirei could only look forward to what the future had in store.

the decision.
Tumblr media
stray kids 9th member au,, m.list
a week after chan's visit,, worry bestoes upon kirei as there is nothing radio silence from him, no updates on debut. but one unexpected visit from the ceo changes everything.
⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
kirei wasn't sure she has ever been as nervous as she currently was. it had been nearly a whole week since chan had come to her, and there was no news from him about jyp's decision. the girl had been continuing on her normal training with the other female trainees as if nothing happened.
she didn't say anything to them, not even her close friends, about chan's offer. she didn't feel she should, because nothing was certain.
kirei had been so distracted by her whole situation that she was finding it hard to keep up and focus on the choreography the dance teacher was teaching. so she was relieved when she noticed it was 5:45, meaning there was only fifteen minutes left of dance practice.
the girl hoped she'd be able to take it easy for the remainder of the class, knowing that the teacher didn't really notice her either as she was near the back. but her dreams were crushed as she saw jyp himself enter the practice room.
all the trainees, including kirei, bowed ninety degrees and greeted the ceo as he made his way to the front of the room to stand next to the dance teacher.
"hey girls, don't mind me. i'm just gonna be watching your practice for the last fifteen minutes and see how you're getting along."
the female trainees all responded with a yes in perfect sync, as if they had been practicing it too. kirei knew that she wouldn't be able to slack off now, she'd have to put in all her energy in hopes he might notice her for once.
the dance teacher asked the first group to come up and show what they had been practicing. the first group was the female debut team, which consisted of strong dancers like chaeryeong and yeji. in a way, kirei was thankful she wasn't in there group. she would never be able to outshine them, at least in her group she might able to stand out a little.
the room became quiet as the girls got into position, before 'who's that chick' by rihanna began playing. the song echoed around the room as the girls danced with all of their energy, hoping to impress the ceo. and judging by the smile on his face, he sure as hell seemed like he was.
the music ended and everyone clapped. kirei couldn't help but feel discouraged as she watched her friends get praised. in her head, there was no way she would be as good as them and recieve that kind of praise.
kirei was snapped out of thought when she heard her group being called up. making her way to the center, kirei regretted not focusing more on the choreography. if only she had known this would happen.
as she got into her starting position, kirei noticed how jyp's gaze lingered on her for longer than she would have expected. she didn't let it faze her, and instead danced with all the energy she had left. kirei was able to finish the choreography without making any visible mistakes. she hoped that maybe today was the day jyp would pay attention to her.
the other trainees clapped for them, along with jyp, as kirei caught her breath. she hadn't danced that energetically in a while, it had surprised her friends and her teacher.
the girls stood in a line infront of jyp, who once again seemed to have his focus on kirei. this gave the girl hope.
however, when giving feedback, her hope was lost as she noticed he hadn't even glanced in her direction. he praised everyone but her, and at this point kirei was almost at her breaking point. if she didn't have any self control, kirei would have easily broken down crying right then and there.
"which one of you is kirei?"
the girl's head snapped up as she heard jyp call her name. she raised her hand as she noticed all of the trainees staring at her. jyp simply nodded his head as he wispered into the dance teacher's ear, who nodded back at him.
"i'd like to speak to you in my office, if that's okay with you"
kirei could only nod as he made his way out of the practice room. she hesitantly followed him out, shooting a look of distress in her friend ryujin's direction. kirei followed jyp, without saying a word, along the long hallways of jyp entertainment.
she recognised his office door as it appeared on her left. jyp opened the door and held it open, gesturing kirei to enter with a smile on his face. just as she was about to walk in, she noticed chan and woojin, who was another trainee, at the other end of the corridor. she saw the two boys give her a thumbs up before they dissapeared out of her sight.
kirei had never seen jyp's office before, this was her first time. she sat down in a chair, the ceo taking a seat in his own.
"you must be confused, right?"
kirei didn't know what to say, so she simply nodded. it was as if she had forgotten how to speak. jyp chuckled and leaned back in his seat, seeming relaxed. kirei, on the other hand, was not relaxed. she was sitting striaght up on her chair and her hands were sweaty.
"well, chan came to me a few days ago."
instantly, kirei knew what was coming. she looked down briefly, clenching her fists, before looking back up. she was fully preparing for a rejection.
"and he told me about his idea. that he wants you in his team."
at this point, kirei didn't know where to look. she was too embarassed to look at the ceo, so she let her eyes wander around the office. jyp could tell that she was uncomfortable.
"at first, i thought the idea was ridiculous. there is no such thing like that in kpop. and when i said, chan made a very interesting point."
kirei frowned, she was finally able to look at jyp. however, she didn't look him directly in the eye, only slightly above his eyebrows. she didn't have that kind of courage.
"he said that because it doesn't exist in kpop, we could be the first to do it. we could break boundaries and stereotypes in the industry. and that really made me think."
kirei didn't know what to expect anymore, and jyp wasn't giving anything away. she only wished that chan would have warned her that this conversation was coming, maybe then she would be a little more prepared.
"i really want the next group to be something special, to be something that kpop has never seen or would never expect. so i took chan's idea into consideration. but i'll have to admit, you are not the trainee i would have picked"
kirei could only look down.
"actually when chan mentioned your name, i couldn't picture your face kirei"
so she had been right, the ceo didn't even know who she was. she had been in the company for four years and the ceo couldn't even remember her face.
"which is why i came to see your practice today, i wanted to see if you were as talented as chan claimed you were. i felt i should give you a chance, considering i didn't know who you were. let me ask you something kirei, how long have you been here?"
the girl looked up sadly at the ceo, who had an unreadable expression plastered onto his face. kirei gulped before giving her answer.
"four years"
jyp nodded and thought for a few seconds. kirei started to fiddle with her fingers, not sure of what to do or say. she felt awkward to say the least.
"hm, now i feel bad. but i want to give you a chance. i was impressed by your skill, and want to see more of you. which is why i'm going to let you join chan's team"
the girl was shocked, she hadn't expected it at all. if anything, she thought she'd would getting rejected and maybe even fired from the company. kirei was on the verge of tears, she never thought she would actually get the chance to debut. at least not under jyp entertainment.
"thank you"
the girl was barely able to thank him as a few tears began to run down her cheeks. jyp smiled and offered kirei a tissue. she laughed and took the tissue from his hand before wiping her tears.
"i think you deserve this. now, chan is likely waiting outside so i'll let you go."
kirei stood up and bowed to the ceo before making her way out of the office, still wiping her tears. as soon as she stepped out she saw chan, who was now by himself.
she smiled at him, tears still flowing, before running towards him and giving him the biggest hug she had ever given. he laughed and wrapped his arms around her, rocking back and forth.
the two were so happy they didn't even notice the other female trainees looking at them, confused. they had just come out of the practice room and saw chan and kirei hugging.
"come with me, i'll introduce you to the team."
she smiled, nodded and let him go. she had never been happier than right now. the two began to walk side by side before they were interupted.
"kirei!"
the girl looked back and saw ryujin, along with a few other trainees, looking at her with a confused expression. kirei looked over at chan and back at her friends.
"i'll see you guys tomorrow, don't worry nothing bad happened."
ryujin nodded and smiled at her. kirei also smiled and continued walking next to chan.
"what do you think they'll say when they find out?"
chan looked at kirei.
"they'll say you deserve it, because you really do."
all kirei could really do at that time was smile, because she was truly grateful for everything that he had done for her.
"thank you, chris."

chan’s question.
Tumblr media
stray kids 9th member au,, m.list
kirei's life as a trainee hasn't been the easiest, the ceo doesn't seem to know who she is and hasn't had any luck with debut. so when chan gives her an opportunity that could change her life, will she take it?
⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
the trainee life was not an easy one, kirei knew that. she knew what she was getting into when she signed a contract with one of the top agencies in korea. perhaps if kirei had been a little older when she was scouted, she wouldn't have signed it. but being merely 14 years old, kirei convinced her parents to let her do it.
it was on days like today that kirei wished she had listened to her parents. they had told her that the chance of actually getting to debut was slim, and that training for something she'd likely never achieve would make her suffer. and they were right.
the girl had been training for nearly 4 years now, and had never even gotten close to the chance to debut. she wasn't chosen to participate in sixteen, and watched all of her friends debut in a girl group who was extremely succesful. and today, her dreams had been crushed once more.
today was the day that the ceo had announced who would be in the female debut team for his upcoming survival show. and unlike what kirei had expected, she wasn't chosen.
sometimes she wondered if the ceo even knew who she was, she had been training for years and not once had she been acknowledged by him. sure she recieved a lot of praise from her fellow trainees and occasionally her trainers, but never from the ceo himself.
kirei had been sitting in the practice room for almost an hour, reflecting on her 4 years of practice that had seemingly been a waste of time.
i've sat here and watched my friends debut, not once but twice. never once has the ceo noticed me, so what's the point in enduring more years of pointless training?
kirei thought to herself. she had thought of quiting before, but always held on to the little bit of hope that she'd one day have her chance. this time, she wanted to quit for good.
the 18 year old was too immersed into her negative thougts that she didn't even notice someone enter the practice room. it was the tap on her shoulder that snapped her out of it.
"rei, you okay?"
the brunette looked up from her sitting position on the floor and saw chan standing over her with a worried look on his face. kirei smiled at the sight of him.
chan had been a friend of kirei since she first started training. he had helped her out with dance practice or vocal training for as long as she could remember, and they had grown to become close friends over the years. he was the one of the only reasons kirei felt motivated to continue. knowing he had been training for 7 years already, she felt bad for complaining.
"not really, but i'll get over it"
the older boy frowned and took a seat next to kirei, who was sitting cross legged in front of the practice mirror just staring at herself. chan really cared for her, she was like his younger sister. even though he already had one back in australia, kirei was like a replacement.
"well go on then, talk"
kirei took a deep, heavy breath before she broke eyecontact with her reflection. she turned to head to make eyecontact with chan. she was the one person in korea she told everything to, so she knew she would have to tell him about her worries.
"jyp just announced the members of the female debut team for his survival show. and as usual i-"
kirei wasn't able to finish her sentence as she was cut off by chan.
"and you weren't chosen."
kirei looked at him confused as to how he knew already. the announcement had taken place during a female training just over an hour ago, so the boys shouldn't know yet. chan read the confused look on the brunnette's face and continued.
"i was filling up my water bottle when the debut team came out of your practice room cheering and screaming out loud that they were getting a chance to debut. i noticed you weren't apart of them so that's why i came here, to check up on you."
kirei looked at him and nodded, a weak smile appearing on her face. this is why she appreciated chan so much, he did so much for her and took such great care of her which often made her feel like she didn't deserve to have him as a friend.
"well thank you, i appreciate it. but like i said, i'll get over it"
chan didn't say anything this time. he knew her too well, he knew that she wouldn't get over it. he knew that from today onwards she would be beating herself up for not working hard enough, which to chan was not true. kirei was one of the most hardworking people he knew, he didn't understand why she had gotten no recognition from jyp.
a silence came over the practice room, neither of them really knowing what to say. kirei decided to change the subject, wanting nothing more than to get rid of the gloomy atmosphere she had caused.
"what about the male debut team? did jyp announce it yet?"
despite having not being chosen for the female group, kirei badly wanted chan to get picked for the male team. he had been working hard for 7 years straight and deserved to be rewarded.
a grin came over chan's face, his head twitching slightly. he looked over at kirei who seemed to be dying to know what his response would be.
"actually, jyp wants me to put together a team. meaning i get to choose whoever i want to be apart of it."
kirei nodded, she thought that the concept was cool but didn't understand why jyp didn't do that with the female team. maybe then she would have had a better chance.
"so who are you thinking of choosing then?"
the girl hoped to hear some names she would recognize. she wasn't very familiar with the male trainees, but she knew some of them.
"i have a team in mind actually, i'm not sure you know many of them. but i think you'll be happy to know that i'm recruiting felix."
upon hearing that last part, kirei's worries went to the back of her head and joy overcame her entire body. she had been helping felix out ever since he became a trainee, and to hear that he would be getting a chance to debut made her so proud and happy for him.
"are you serious!? oh my god chan, that's amazing."
the boy laughed and watched kirei get excited. he was glad to see her in a good mood after what had gone down that day. once kirei calmed down a little, chan decided to speak again.
"i also came here to ask you something."
kirei's head turned towards chan. she nodded, letting him know that he could continue. chan took a pause and stared into the mirror for a good 10 seconds before looking back at kirei. the girl was confused, he seemed like he wasn't sure of something.
"i want you to be apart of my team."
kirei's mouth opened ever so slightly. she was taken aback by chan's request, it wasn't something she expected at all. his brows raised a little, he seemed to be waiting for the girl to say something, anything.
"i- uh, i don't know what to say."
another moment of silence invaded the practice room, this time neither of them sure of what to say. kirei stood up from her sitting position on the floor.
"you want me- a girl- to be in a male team? do you know how crazy that sounds? there is no way on earth jyp is agreeing to that."
chan stood up as well, grabbing her arm.
"kirei, you are one of the most talented people in this agency. if you continue like this, you'll either never debut or jyp will just waste your talent somewhere else. this is your time, i know it is."
kirei looked down. how on earth would she be able to keep up with all of the male trainees? she has seen them practice before and was aware of how intense their practices were. besides, she was a girl. just because chan wants this doesn't mean his teammates will.
"i don't know chan, i really don't."
chan grabbed her other arm and changed his grip to her shoulders.
"i have an extremely strong arguement if jyp is opposed, i promise you i will make this happen. i just need you to say yes."
kirei thought for moment. chan was right, when would she ever get an opportunity like this ever again? likely never. her talent would be wasted considering the ceo barely notices her. she knew that this wouldn't be an easy journey, but kirei trusted chan. which is why she didn't hesitate in her answer.
"okay. i'll do it. i'll be apart of you team."

ships. (kirei & the members)
Tumblr media
kirei and chan
:: kichan ::
- they've known each other the longest out of stray kids.
- chan helped out kirei a lot as a trainee and that's how they got close, he still helps her out to this day.
- kirei treasures her friendship with chan the most, and she has said before that she has a lot of respect for him.
- chan sees kirei as a younger sibling, he often teases her and is protective of her.
- kirei sees chan as an older brother, she'll try to help him as much as she can and also teases him a lot.
Tumblr media
kirei and minho
:: kiho ::
- a super popular ship! this is a result of how much they tease fans. they are both seen as the sexy ones of the group, and stays have dubbed them the 'power couple' of stray kids.
- they are playfully flirting and teasing each other 24/7, that it annoys all of the members.
- the pair will often making kissy faces or eyes at each other during events or fanmeets to tease fans.
- despite the flirting, kirei only sees minho as a friend and their relationship is strictly platonic.
- the same goes for minho, he doesn't see kirei as more than a friend. the playful flirting that goes on between them is just for fun and to tease fans, nothing more.
Tumblr media
kirei and changbin
:: kibin ::
- best friend #2. they're the same age and both get on really well. a fairly popular ship in the group.
- changbin and kirei were super awkward around each other for a few months after they met, but they became really close friends overtime.
- kirei is like changbin's personal therapist. he goes to her for advice or just to talk about his problems because she's a great listener.
- kirei trusts changbin with her entire life. he helped her realise that you shouldn't judge people because changbin is not the person she thought he was when they first met.
- changbin is truly grateful for kirei's existence. he also trusts kirei with everything he has, however he has a hard time expressing it.
Tumblr media
kirei and hyunjin
:: kijin ::
- another very popular ship in the group! they hangout a lot and are affectionate, which is why the fans love them so much together.
- they are both huge memes, so when they're together it's just a mess.
- were also quite awkward when they first met and barely spoke to each other, which is ironic because now they're stuck to each other like super glue.
- kirei shares the most in common with hyunjin, which is why they b othe get along really well. she has the same humor as him so she's always laughing when around him.
- hyunjin is really close with kirei. he would be lying if he said he'd never crushed on her, but he's moved past it. however this has never stopped them from being super close.
Tumblr media
kirei and jisung
:: kisung ::
- they're not a popular ship but they aren't underatted either! they're really close friends and actually share a lot in common.
- they are the scaredy cats of stray kids. if the members are watching a horror movie, jisung and kirei always lock themselves in another room where they'll build a pillow fort and watch a disney film.
- jisung once said that he used to have a crush on kirei when they were trainees, but that it was more of admiration than love.
- kirei admires jisung. she finds him really cool and she's the only member who never teases him. kirei doesn't like calling jisung by his stage name so she always just calls him normally, even during interviews and events.
- jisung also admires kirei. funny enough, he also thinks she's super cool and he's her hype man. he thinks that she often doesn't give herself enough credit so he's the one to cheer her on.
Tumblr media
kirei and felix
:: kilix ::
- best friend #1. these two are like two peas in a pod, they never leave each other's side and get along super well. they are the literal definition of best friends and trust each other 100%
- when felix became a trainee, kirei was one of the first people who talked to him. this is because she had also been in his position, a foreigner in an unfamiliar place, and wanted to be there for felix like how chan had been there for her.
- another bunch of memes, they are the recipe for disaster.
- kirei started out as a mentor of sorts for felix, but as they got closer their relationship got more casual and they ended up as best friends.
- felix treasures his friendship with kirei so much. he never thought he'd make a friend like her when he moved to korea. they tell each other literally everything.
Tumblr media
kirei and seungmin
:: kimin ::
- another extremely underrated ship in the group! which is once again a shame considering how close they actually are. seungmin was the friendliest member when she first met the boys, and kirei found it easiest to get closest to him.
- they are partners in crime, they pull tons of pranks together but never on each other. the two are seen as the good ones of the group, but they are really the devil incarnate.
- they used to help each other with homework and studying all the time when they were still in school.
- kirei is really grateful for seungmin as he made her feel the most welcome when chan introduced her to the boys. they have a routine where every few days they'll stay up late and talk while watching the stars.
- seungmin treats kirei the same as everyone else, he doesn't care if she is a girl. to him, stray kids isn't the same without her. he loves her with his whole heart and would do anything for her. she's the only member, aside from jeongin, that he goes soft for.
Tumblr media
kirei and jeongin
:: kirin ::
- the fans are so soft for this ship! kirei is babying him 24/7, even though there's only a 2 year age gap. jeongin doesn't complain though, because he can get away with anything when it comes to kirei.
- she protects him from the others and never lets anyone get away with teasing him.
- kirei sometimes collects jeongin from school when they aren't busy with a schedule, which jeongin loves.
- jeongin adores his noona, he is thankful for everything she does for him and the others members. he gives her special treatment in terms of compliments and praises and would do absolutely everything for her or to protect her.
- kirei's motherly side is brought out by jeongin, she knows that he's mature enough to make his own decisions but she wants to be there to protect him and keep an eye on him. she's like his second mother.
°•☆
which ship is your favorite? or who do you think is the fan favorite?
i love all of them personally but i'm super indescisive so even if i did choose one i'd be lying to everyone and myself.
