he’s here on official avengers business. or that’s what he tells security standing at the entrance so he can bypass them without issue. the men don’t even question the bag in his hand nowadays, specifically marked with the name of the soul food cafe down from his dad’s house in harlem. one he used to frequent as a kid with his mom. sentimental shit, but he’s a sentimental guy, he thinks. he hadn’t exactly shared that detail with h, but hardison is a smart guy (smartest guy he knows, probably) and sam realizes he’ll eventually put it all together. everything. after all, it’s the fifth time, in the last few weeks of his vacation break that he’s arrived to this place. at this designated lunch hour, with food in his hand. rotating security don’t even question why he’s here, instead of the headquarters upstate. sam is far from where he usually meets up with stark, doesn’t know where the man’s at in this expansive building. doesn’t all that care in the moment either as he swipes his given badge across the pads that’ll allow him entrance down into the labs. security eventually start to piece together the puzzle, the codes on his access badge always marked the same: arrival and his designation. visiting the same person every single time he comes here. he’s earned several ‘ don’t strike out now — ’ in sarcastic retaliation, to which he always reply, ‘ do it look like i would? that’s what i thought. ’
‘ i come bearing food, so you gunna have to put your world domination aside for 15 minutes. for me. ’

ARCHETYPES
47% CAREGIVER friendly, sincere, and compassionate, the caregiver finds their reward in helping others. no one could ask for a better best friend.
32% ADVOCATE the advocate is the one everyone wants on their side. in the name of justice, they are not afraid to challenge authority or speak up for others.
21% REBEL the rebel is comfortable throwing caution to the wind—and bucking the system—if that means getting their point across.

okay but i have to ask. was sam part of a frat in college? did he do rotc? what are your headcanons for his early life, including secondary and high school? please give me this sweet content
to answer, he was! he was part of omega psi phi during his undergraduate years at howard. like frats have bad reps, especially nphc. with legitimate critique, all things aside, and for the most part, that does not apply to him and for him? like his father was in the same frat before him, his grandfather as well. so it was definitely kind of a tradition thing. his dad didn’t serve, but his grandfather did. and because i can, i decided he had been a tuskgee airman during wwii. like sam never met his granddad, but he was and is someone he closely admired.
i personally love the interpretation and information, from the comics, i’ve been reading that sam always been active in civil rights and vocal about black issues. so bet he was apart of the bsu. protesting, rallies. but i also won’t ever boil down his characterization to: “hates racism”, “loves protesting” because that’s what a lot of people tend to do when they write black characters. but he’ll still manage to piss off fox news every time he opens his mouth.
i also headcanon that his father moved up to harlem from montgomery, alabama before he was born, so not only does he see the shit unfolding around him and to him – gentrification, constant cop surveillance, brutality, and over-policing. he’s hearing stories from his dad who grew up in the south during the height of the civil rights movement. he knows what his mom experienced, how his dad had it bad for awhile, and how his mom sometimes had it even worse. don’t ever disrespect black women around him, that’s like a direct way to get your ass beat.
i personally feel like he thrives well in environments with people, in general. so it’s not really odd to me that he emerged himself in social settings. as i write him, that had been a constant sort of thing throughout his school years. people kind of gravitated towards him and he was easily accepted in groups, friendship circles where-ever he went. he’s good at talking with people. he played basketball for a second simply because he was tall, but he wasn’t never good at it. like he never really had an awkward stage growing up, i think he was definitely assure of himself. he lost his mother his ninth grade year, and that had him in a fucked up space for a minute. because he felt like he failed her, even if it was out of his control. in response to her passing, his grades took a hit, he was less social. less active.

CHARACTER STUDY ! ( repost not reblog )
— basics.
▸ is your muse tall / short / average ? he’s tall, standing at 6′3 1/2.
▸ are they okay with their height ? has no issues whatsoever with his height.
▸ what’s their hair like ? he prefers a low-cut, it’s easier to maintain. well-groomed, neat, nothing extraneous.
▸ do they spend a lot of time on their hair / grooming ? he doesn’t spend too long on his hair. he’s been going to the same local barbers in d.c. since his undergraduate years at howard university. knows all the men down there, so he knows they’ll do a good job on his cut, there’s always a chair available for him when he arrives. he likes the routine of that and that place gives him that routine.
▸ does your muse care about their appearance / what others think ? to a certain degree, definitely. but it’s not end all goal with him. he likes to look good, likes to put a little thought in the watches he wears or the combination of colors. always autumn shades. browns. oranges. reds. he dresses nicely and keeps his facial hair trimmed, his hair clean-shaven. his father taught him to look his best at all times, because people were always watching and judging men that looked like him, that talked like him. but he long since stopped caring about that when he grew into the man he is now, he looks good for himself essentially. he takes pride in that.
— preferences.
▸ indoors or outdoors ? outdoors. ▸ rain or sunshine ? sunshine. ▸ forest or beach ? beach. ▸ precious metals or gems ? metals. ▸ flowers or perfumes ? flowers. ▸ personality or appearance ? personality. ▸ being alone or being in a crowd ? you can be alone in a crowd. ▸ order or anarchy ? order. ▸ painful truths or white lies ? painful truths. ▸ science or magic ? science. magic. depends on the day. ▸ peace or conflict ? peace. ▸ night or day ? day. ▸ dusk or dawn ? dusk. ▸ warmth or cold ? warmth. ▸ many acquaintances or a few close friends ? close few friends. ▸ reading or playing a game ? depends on the game, depends on the book.
— questionnaire.
▸ what are some of your muse’s bad habits ? risking taking isn’t inherently a bad trait, but for him, it can be and has been. he’s, most times, willing to throw himself into a situation impulsively. ready to take risks. sometimes he’s finicky, hard to focus. especially if it’s something he hasn’t pledged one hundred percent loyalty or attention towards. he’s blunt, sarcastic in ways that could potentially hurt someone’s feelings, even if he doesn’t always mean harm, and has a tendency to keep up airs. but all that had been ingrained in him growing up. learning from his dad. if caring too much can be a bad habit, he got that shit down-packed.
▸ has your muse lost anyone close to them ? how has it affected them ? he’s lost several people close to him. started with his mother. then riley, others he’s encountered in service that he had built connections with. faces of men and women he’s seen countless times through the day, then they were simply gone. with the death of his mother, it propelled him forward to enlist. he definitely internalized that lost for a long time, carried around with him for years, and it still hurts. but he’s better at dealing with losing people now, than he did before. even if he does not want to lose anyone else. he wants to make certain he never will, but the rational part of him, knows with what he’s seen and experienced, sometimes it’s inevitable. yet if he can stop it, if he can do something about it, he’ll take the chance with little hesitation. and sometimes, he’ll take that chance, knowing there’s little to no chance of actually succeeding.
▸ what are some fond memories your muse has ? he remembers waking up early in the morning before elementary and middle school, watching his mom cook and clean the house, listening to whatever blues tape she had playing in the background. he has fond memories of his parents together, of watching them be there for one another. of his dad’s sermons in church. his mother’s meals, learning how to cook and cook well from her. he had fond memories throughout school. playing sports. making friends where-ever he went, because that shit came second-nature for someone like him.
▸ is it easy for your muse to kill ? it’s not easy, but it’s not terribly hard if he knows he has to do it. there’s duty. and there’s the idea, the possibility that a potential threat could hurt someone else. he’ll be more than willing to take them down. forcefully.
▸ what’s it like when your muse breaks down ? he doesn’t dwell in them — his break downs, overtime he’s learned how to deal with his emotions and his negativity in a way that does not leave him utterly vulnerable. even if he knows there’s nothing wrong with that vulnerability. growing up, he was prone to flight and running from his issues, rather than dealing with them head-on. he, unlike most, wouldn’t breakdown into tears or lose his hold on his emotions, he’ll leave the scene. quickly. telling himself he’ll deal with the consequences later. putting it off and off. distancing himself. because his tongue got him in trouble. and he would prefer to leave, then say something he knows he’ll regret later on. now, he takes his pain and rage and channels them into action.
▸ is your muse capable of trusting someone with their life ? he can, but it’ll definitely have to be with someone he trusts entirely, with no questions ask. so the list is limited, but not empty. someone like steve.
▸ what’s your muse like when they’re in love ? intense. damn. he’s the type to throw himself into a relationship, even if he’s unaware that he’s so completely and utterly committed. fiercely protective. he doesn’t want to lose them. lose whatever he’s managed to build cause he knows lost can take anyone easily. there’s an openness, he isn’t here for an emotional roller coast ride, he’s too fucking grown for those types of childish games. there’s transparency and honesty coming from him. no jealousy either. but he can be impulsive in love as well, at the same time, he’s a romantic. all that cheesy shit. the candlelit dinners, dates out on the night, breakfast in bed. he doesn’t like to be tied down in a sense that can become burdensome, there’s a type of freedom he craves. he’s dated before, has had relationships where it didn’t work out, whenever he does settle and whoever he decides to settle with, will definitely be someone he deeply loves.

“No need. I can handle this alone.”
he’s utterly out of his element. like a damn fish out of water. but that’s nothing new for him these days and despite his adamant assertion of leaving the clandestine to his team members. all who were more equipped for tangling covert operations. i’m a soldier, not a spy, fallen on deaf ears. he’ll repeat that line until he’s blue in the face and it still won’t mean nothing to these folks. sam finds himself front and center in some new breed of spy shit for the wakandan nation. he agrees. despite his own prickling of nerves and uncertainty that’s so hard to shake off, somehow he does so anyway. without hesitation. reminds himself that it’s a rescue mission like so many others he’s thrown himself into during his time overseas. diving into combative environments with the knowledge that he could die out there forever prevalent in his head. but doing so because he had to do. because he wanted to.
he agrees before he realizes he even opened his mouth to accept. then again, he can’t quite say no with the images of that demolished building in lagos playing through his head. her people. ‘ i don’t doubt that. ’ and the nonchalant grin stands as a stark contrasts to his own turmoil. the ease in his voice gives nothing away. ‘ but i’m still gunna help. this ain’t a debate, ‘kia. ’

BOLD THE NATURAL AESTHETICS THAT APPEAL TO / APPLY TO YOUR MUSE.
fluffy white nimbus clouds. dark grey cumulonimbus clouds. rain clouds. a hurricane. light spring breeze. a sherbet-colored sky at sunrise. hazy yellow skies. deep blue ponds of fresh water. blankets of sparkling snow. tornado winds. monsoon flooding. rich, orange sunsets. soft, purple clouds at dusk. heavy hail. the rumbling of thunder. icy sleet. gentle snowfall. moss-dusted tree bark. pink sunset clouds.
grey winter skies. navy blue skies in the daytime. cool mist in the morning. leaf-bare trees. giant ocean waves. the full moon. a cracked, dry desert. rolling hills of prairie grass. sweeping waves of briny seawater. rocky, steep ravines. rippling canyon walls. spindly, cave stalactites. creeping, green ivy. lush canopies of leafy trees. dense, white fog. a peaceful creek of clear water. flowering cacti dusted with dew, catching light in the morning sun. a bubbling, hot pool of volcanic sulfur. sharp, grey mountainsides. fossils nestled in chunks of rock. a white sand beach. deep imprints of animal tracks in the dirt.
soft, squishy moss. uniform rows of birch trees in winter. delicate mushrooms popping up in spring from beneath the decay on the forest floor. tumbleweeds jerking in the faintest wind across the desert landscape. light rain. summer wildfires. a mixing of hot and cool air before a storm. silent lightning in the static of summer heat. a windy blizzard. thick flakes of snow tumbling down from the sky. a tree standing alone in a barren, yellow field. a desert of loose sand and tall, orange dunes. a pure blue sky. a river of molten rock. a grove of flowering trees. twisting, mangled roots sticking up from the muddy ground.
bitter, cold winds. tumultuous skies of stormy clouds. branches of lightning ripping across the sky. a foggy swamp. the tree-bare foothills of a mountain range. sandy brown cliff sides. rocky coastlines. the violent shaking of an earthquake. the mysterious sound of ethereal trumpets in the sky. the lights of the auroras borealis and australis. a black sand beach. a lone tropical island in the reef of shallow, aqua waters. underwater volcanic vents. a herd of migrating mammals. tree branches growing heavy with ripe fruit. light streaming down through the clouds. a field of lush grain waving peacefully in the summer breeze. the sound of insects and frogs teeming in the night. natural disaster.
