Karuta card list

I'm told that Utsumi says in the audio commentary on the BD that there's 61 karuta cards and I found 61, albeit some of them only partial cards lol.... so here is my list!

with screenshots, Japanese text to the best of my ability (some of them are hard to read), and English translations

The karuta are supposed to be written in poem form and have 5 and 7 syllables in Japanese but for translating I just went with the closest meaning I didn't try to make them poems lol

Also, Miya and Reki's hand writing is too similar I tried to guess which one was which but I might have mixed a couple up.

This in an idiom in Japanese that means someone is acting quieter/more meek than usual.

Hiyayakko

Sure, this does say hiyayakko, though I don't know if people would know what that is without looking it up... it just means chilled tofu.

But the kanji also makes it a little bit of a joke because the name of the dish is a bit of a pun... the kanji 冷奴 literally means chilled servant. The explanation I've heard of this is because servants of samurai during the edo period wore outfits with a square symbol on them.

The second kanji 奴 is also used for やつ(yatsu) which means guy so you could read it as cool guy.

Karuta

I made a list of all the cards here but even after watching it I feel like people might not know how to play. Karuta is a matching game. You have to make two matching decks, the reading deck and the grabbing deck. The players lay all the grabbing deck cards out in a random order and then they read a card from the reading deck and search for the matching card as fast as they can.

Piggyback

Langa doesn't recognize the Japanese word for piggyback because it's a word that came to Japanese through Portuguese. It originated from the Portuguese word ombro(shoulders/back).

Joe's long nose

This is a common joke in some anime. There's an idiom in Japanese that people that are very prideful have a "high/long nose" so this is just expressing that he's very proud of himself.

I was able to watch the Sk8 OVA after all! I was squealing throughout the whole thing! I'm so happy that Miya and Koyomi finally met! She called him hot and their reaction when they accidentally brushed hands was too adorable. 💕 I will work on a drawing of the two that I'll post sometime soon.

It was also nice seeing Reki being carried for a change when he had to give his old friend a punch of piggybacks when they were little. Mixing that detail into the Kaoru and Kojiro storyline was a really nice touch. I absolutely love that they crossed paths back then.

I'm honestly a little surprised that those two didn't get into skateboarding until they were already in high school. Thought it was a little sooner than that. They definitely take competing to another level, but I loved seeing Matchablossom viciously flirt with each other. 😏

After watching the Morning Routine, I realized that I might kin Tadashi to an extent because he is 100% me when it comes to sleeping in late. I've done so before. And of course, Adam thought of the whole skate competition as a dog show. 🙄 That's how he sees everyone who isn't superior to him. Also, I didn't really need to see that scene of him in the shower. My eyeballs will have to be cleansed.

I've also always loved Shadow as a character, but now I love him even more. It's so funny that he's such a sweet guy to old ladies and little girls, but then will turn around and try to blow someone up at S. While it would have been nice to see Shadow finally luck out with his crush, I also like the idea of him and Oka. I'm considering having them interact in my story.

Overall, we have been blessed. I know I'm not the best at explaining my thoughts sometimes, but I think we can all agree that we have won and this was the best thing to have happened besides the new season being announced soon.

I'm so upset. I don't have premium on Crunchyroll so I can't watch the Sk8 OVA. Thought maybe I could see it long enough with a free trial but that's not going to work. I want to see it so bad and I know there are going to be spoilers everywhere. 😭 I was so excited..

There is still a lot to figure out, but would anyone possibly be interested in a Kojiro Nanjo x OC fanfic? The first chapter is rather long, but I'm nearly done and will be able to publish it very soon once it's fully edited. I'm a bit nervous though cause other stories like this have done so much better and my last Sk8 story didn't get any attention at all. I just want to be able to share my work with the Sk8 community even if it's not the best. Also, have a drawing idea I'm going to work on with Miya and Koyomi.

Hello lovely sunbeams, how are ya? ☺️✌️ I'm not new to Tumblr, but this is a new blog that I wanted to focus on my favorite anime, Sk8 The Infinity. I just love my boys and wanted a place to be able to talk about them, share ideas for stories, and maybe one day I can even roleplay with someone which I have kinda been wanting to do lately but will try and remain patient. I can't promise that I will frequently update cause I'm pretty bad at it, especially if my focus is temporarily on another anime or show, but this is my favorite anime and one of my longest hyperfixations, so hopefully, it will hold out strong for a while. It will be a bit slow going still, but I'd love to post a story or two that I have been planning, start making some fan art here and there, and just be able to rant about my OCs. I have a few of them, but a couple are in the works. I'm just here to have a good time, but I am in my late 20s just so you are aware. If you are looking to call me by name, I usually go by Sunnie on other platforms but I am totally up for strawberry-themed nicknames since I will be going by Strawberry Queen 🍓 👑 on here. I share a small obsession with the fruit, just like my baby Koyomi does, and there is actually a skateboard trick called strawberry milkshake, which I had to name this blog after. Think I ranted enough in this introduction for now, but I hope to meet some of you sunbeams real soon. ❤️
