As a guy who has recently majored in English I think that this is awesomely funny, kudos good sir, or madam (I think you once mentioned you were a girl but I'm not so sure). So ignore the haters :D

The intent of this meme was never to be pretentious.  Some people just don't find it funny, while other people do.  I probably don't think half the things you find humorous are funny.
