chat can we band together and bombard beta feedback to change the hairstyle to be fully locs? this isn't even a locs existing in other cultures situation - they've purely added them for the aesthetic (snake-like hair for year of the snake, which would naturally resemble loose curls or locs). it lowkey just feels like the 2 straight strands are there so they don't have to be linked to black culture

i don't really fw it. especially in a game like sky where less than 10% of the hairstyle choices are even definitively black to begin with. i think it's just weird to have over 90% of hairstyles be for you and still pick from that 10% that wasn't necessarily intended for you. though ngl i do find it kinda understandable if you're white with curly hair there's like 2 choices for you too 😭😭😭😭😭 still find it a bit of a weird choice but we're in the same boat i'll let it slide

i also find it sorta distasteful because of how tgc seems to be participating in black erasure themselves, the way they keep adding styles that were likely inspired by black culture, but they won't actually texture the hair properly + seemingly cutting black inspired content??? (forgetful storyteller concept art having a coily blowout that seemingly got cut last minute)

it seems like the community doesn't care at all either, and participates too - today i saw someone draw the newly added to beta fortune locs (which have an issue themselves, why are the loose strands not locs but the ponytail is????) as dead straight hair in a sketch... the hair's supposed to look like snakes, which would naturally resemble locs 💥💥 (+ a lot of art people make of black-coded spirits tend to lack any black features)

if the community and the devs themselves weren't like this, i'd probably actually be somewhat fine with it. i'd find it easier to view it as appreciation, but in the game and community's current state, i just do not think its something you can do in good faith

beta spoilers but does anyone else feel rubbed the wrong way with this hairstyle? it looks inspired by african braids (jumbo braids imo), because i have genuinely never seen someone with straight hair do anything similar. so if it is inspired by those braids... why is the style not just jumbo braids? why is the hair texture ambiguous at most, and the braid itself loose????

honestly as a black sky player i might just be tweaking/making a massive reach because its been over a year since a new afro textured style (aviary locs) and im kinda desperate for more than like 15 out of the like 120+ styles that exist to even be curly, let alone coily, since every hairstyle that gets added to this game is 99% of the time is (short) straight hair.

also! even if im just tweaking about this, it's not like tgc doesn't do similar. the braided styles in abyss have a similar issue - clearly inspired by cornrows, but modelled to be loose enough that you can imagine the hair texture to be straighter, not curly/coily. just feels a bit yikes to me, sending the wrong message perhaps.

p.s. tgc should rework the base locs from stealthy survivor. they can model locs so much better now and they're awfully modelled in comparison to the other loc styles, they've been long overdue for a rework

i can't be the only one to think this is... really stupid? why don't they have a base model for the skykid they use to build outfits upon?????? is this not an extremely inefficient way to work, because the only thing that changes with the body is whether your skintone is blue-grey, black, or brown, which they gave up on being consistent about ages ago anyway

its not even paying for decent things, its just whatever they want to put behind a paywall... some iaps are literally recolours of existing items you can get for free; most notably the days of nature sunglasses. there is zero reason for them to a whopping *$20* when it is literally just chill sunbather's glasses but blue. like it'd genuinely be a scam if not for the fact that they bundled 75 candles with it (which is what you're actually paying for when you buy them anyway; the 72 candle purchase costs the same amount), because you can just wait for the spirit to return and/or externally apply a blue filter on your screen, all for free

kinda crazy how sky’s become “pay to get literally anything decent” when they hosted a concert that literally has the lyrics “you cannot eat money”
