Apartment Therapy | The Best Wizarding Homes In The Harry Potter-verse
To celebrate The Boy Who Livedâs birthday this yearâheâs 38 on July 31âweâre going to take a trip through five of the most wonderful wizarding homes Harry comes to know and sometimes love very much. To narrow it down, we selected homes showcased in the films that had some coveted real-world features (wizards love brick fireplaces!). We also factored in other elements like Harryâs experiences there, and the general demeanor of its owners. Sure, Malfoy Manor is sick AF, but it is also coldâboth temperature wise and emotionallyâplus people were tortured there, so you wonât find it amongst our top five (feel free to let your father hear about it, Draco).

stars series: Hogwarts founders  â
Salazar, Rowena, Helga, Godric
âA thousand years or more ago when I was newly sewn, there lived four wizards of renown, whose names are still well-known: Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor, fair Ravenclaw, from glen, sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad, shrewd Slytherin, from fen. They shared a wish, a hope, a dream, they hatched a daring plan to educate young sorcerers thus Hogwarts school began.â

i just realized that james & siriusâs friendship mirrors ron & harryâs:
the dursleys abused harry
the blacks abused sirius
the weasleys loved and cared for ron
the potters also loved and cared for james
harry runs away from privet drive hoping to never return again
sirius runs away from grimmauld place hoping to never return again
harry basically moves in with the weasleys after his fourth year
sirius moves in with james sometime while they were still in school
walburga black blasted sirius off the family tapestry
all the dursleys ever wanted was to erase harry from their lives and memories
ron comes from an old pureblood gryffindor family, there was never any question about which house he would be in
same with james
harry didnât want to be in slytherin and was instead placed in gryffindor
same with sirius
harry and sirius were like the lost boys
james and ron were their anchors and support systems
IâM EMOTIONAL

Harry Potter AU where Harry is hiding in the cabinet in Borgin and Burkes. And he sees Lucius grab Draco with his cane. And he hears the hiss, âWhat did I tell you?â And he hears the quiver in the blonde boyâs voice, âDonât touch anything.â
And Harry knows.
Because heâs used the voice that Draco uses for the past twelve years.
He knows.
Because now that heâs lived with the Weasleys for over a month, he knows that thatâs not the way that a fatherâs voice should be.
He knows.
Heâs heard Vernon use that voice over and over again, day after day, year after year.
And he knows.
And he acts.
Because really other than being a spiteful little git, at this point, Draco really hasnât done anything to truly harm Harry. And Harryâs twelve. Heâs still young, still innocent, easy to forgive, easy to let his âsaving people thingâ get the better of him.
He doesnât do magic. Not really. At least, he doesnât mean to. Well, he does. But he tries to stop himself. Though itâs not a very good attempt. Either way, the jars on the shelves all shatter, their contents falling onto Luciusâ head.
And Harry bursts out of the cabinet and he grabs a very startled Dracoâs hand and he pulls him out of the shop. And theyâre running down the dark, grim, streets. And itâs not long before they get lost since Harry doesnât even know where they are, let alone where theyâre going.
But Draco knows exactly where they are and so he tugs Harry down a road and around the corner and suddenly, theyâre in Diagon Alley. And Harryâs shocked and confused because how could such a terrible place exist next to such a wonderful one?
But they donât have time for that now because Lucius is charging after them, green spells bursting out of the end of his wand. And Draco lets out a scream and Harry (bless him) wonders aloud what kind of spells the green ones are.
And Draco is tugging his arm so hard that he thinks itâs going to come out of his socket. And the boys run as fast as they can, pushing through the crowd, and Harryâs probably apologizing and Dracoâs screaming at him to move and apologize later.
And Harry sees the mob of red heads and heâs screaming for their assistance.
Fred and George spot him first, right as their mother is asking, âWhere on earth could Harry be?â
âFound him,â the twins say.
Gasps. Screams. School supplies tumbling to the ground.
And Arthur and Molly, oh Arthur and Molly, veterans of the original Order of the Phoenix, drawing their strength from parental love, they donât even hesitate. They grab Harry and Draco and Ron and Hermione and Ginny and Fred and George and Percy and they shove them into the nearest shop.
And the kids are all huddled together, Percy and the twins standing in front of the younger ones, and itâs Ron who manages to whisper, âWhatâs Malfoy doing here?â Before Hermione stomps on his foot.
And the duel!
The duel is fantastic.
Arthur and Molly verses Lucius.
Just close your eyes and imagine.
And soon Arthur is able to summon other Ministry workers. Including a strange looking man with a strange eye, a man whose skin is slightly darker than Hermioneâs, and a girl with bright pink hair who is barely older than Percy.
The battleâs over before it even begins. These strange new people grab Lucius and Apparate away and of course heâll buy himself out of trouble in no time but at least the immediate threat is gone.
Gilderoy Lockhart timidly steps out and squeaks that itâs a shame that he wasnât there to stop the duel, that he knew just the hex that could have finished it.
The crowd falls into the streets, praising Arthur and Molly who are quite flustered by all of the attention. Fred and George are clapping their parents on their back, doing a sort of chant. Ron is bragging about how he managed to get a shot in (he hadnât). Percy is excitedly talking to his father about the legal procedures that Lucius will face. Ginny and Hermione are going around, collecting all of the school supplies that they dropped. Ginny finds a rather unusual book but she dismisses it as something that her parents bought and stuffs it into her bag.
And Harry and Draco. Harry and Draco are staring at one another, not saying a word but having a conversation nonetheless.
Molly finally says that they ought to get back to the Burrow, away from this post-battle excitement. The kids all groan but she and Arthur push them back to the Leaky Cauldron so that they can use the Floo. Draco shuffles along, not knowing where else to go. Itâs not until Molly gestures towards the fireplace with a smile that he realizes that his life is about to change.
From thereâŠwellâŠIâll let you think of the possibilitiesâŠ

Wait, so in Gryffindor Tower, if a boy tries to go up the girlâs staircase, it turns into a slide, right? What if one day a kid sets foot on it, but it remains stairs, all the way to the top, and at the top the kid whispers âI knew I was a real girlâ

I get mistaken as a mom a lot bc im a 24 yo nanny walking around with a ten month old, so people will ask me stuff like âoh how cute! How old is he?â Or âis it a boy or a girlâ and lemme tell you, nothing gives me more satisfaction than responding really sarcastically like âoh heâs 35. We want him to move out of the house, but he still lives in our basementâ and âIâm not sure, Iâm too afraid to checkâ
Anyways, now I have this headcannon of Sirius doing the exact same thing with Harry when theyâre out in the world.
âOh what a sweet baby!â âActually ma'am, heâs quiet rabid, his werewolf uncle teaches him to eat other babiesâ
meanwhile Harry is gumming on remusâ finger like a maniac and Remus smacks Sirius in the side of the head.

Itâs November 3rd 1981.Â
Sirius Blackâs birthday.Â
Heâs celebrating by drinking firewhisky with Remus, James, Lily, baby Harry and Peter in the Potterâs cottage in Godricâs Hollow.Â
Theyâre all laughing and everyoneâs so happy.Â
Sirius is cuddling on the couch with Remus and theyâre listening to the muggle records that Remus bought him today to add to Siriusâs extensive record collection.Â
Peter is sitting on the rug building blocks the muggle way with Harry who is happily giggling, fascinated by the multicolored blocks that Peter builds higher and higher only for Harry to knock them over so the process starts all over again. Â
James is telling another story about one of the many times that he and Sirius almost got arrested except this time it was a narrow escape from the muggle police and Lily is trying not to laugh while pretending like she hasnât heard this story a million times before.Â
Sirius is wearing the brand new black leather jacket that James and Lily gave him this afternoon. On his wrist is the watch that the late Mr. and Mrs. Potter gave him for his 17th birthday that he wears everyday.Â
On the same wrist he also wears a tattered brown leather bracelet that Regulus gave him for his fourteenth birthday. Heâs worn it every day since he discovered that Regulus was missing.Â
Sirius feels Remusâs fingers thread through his hair as if he can feel the worrying thoughts for his brother circling around in his head, Remus always did know him too well.Â
Heâs 22 now and as James has told him several times today, maybe itâs time that he starts to grow up.Â
Maybe itâs time that Sirius pulls out the ring box that heâs been hiding behind his hair products in his dresser for the past four months and plucks up the courage to ask Moony to marry him.Â
Sirius turns his head and looks up at Remus whose eyes are closed, his back slumped against the couch cushions and if it werenât for the gentle long fingers running through his hair, Sirius would have easily guessed that Moony had fallen into a peaceful sleep.Â
So maybe Sirius wonât propose tonight then, he might wait a while, a few weeks or a month perhaps.Â
Christmas might be a good time to do it.Â
So Sirius settles into the crook of Remusâs neck and listens intently to the story that James is telling of their wild adventure.Â
And even though the war is still raging on, even though his brother is still lost somewhere, Sirius lets himself be happy for just this one night, surrounded by all of the people he loves the most. Â Â
