marius is so “oh no! anyway” about eponine confessing her love and then immediately dying that 1862 girlies could have started using “and by the way, monsieur marius, i believe that i was a little bit in love with you” as a preface to announce major geopolitical events

Les Misérables, Volume I, Fantine.
Victor Hugo’s works, USSR, 1972. Illustrator: Pyotr Pinkisevich.
Click on the images to see the captions.
1972 edition: part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4. There are only Les Misérables illustrations!
1988 edition: here you can watch Pinkisevich’s illustrations to Les Misérables, The Man Who Laughs, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and Ninety-Three.
I’ve seen just a few Les Misérables illustrations from the 1972 soviet edition of Victor Hugo’s works on the internet. You can hardly find them, but listen, they’re worth sharing!
Scans are made by me.

I tried making covers for Les Misérables volumes from Penguin Classics and that was really fun! and I made two for volume 4 bc I liked both of it.
The illustrations I used and edited are from one of the editions I own.
If you want to try making a cover here it is.

[ At the period of his most abject misery, he had observed that young girls turned round when he passed by, and he fled or hid, with death in his soul. He thought that they were staring at him because of his old clothes, and that they were laughing at them; the fact is, that they stared at him because of his grace, and that they dreamed of him. This mute misunderstanding between him and the pretty passers-by had made him shy. He chose none of them for the excellent reason that he fled from all of them. He lived thus indefinitely,— stupidly, as Courfeyrac said. ]

in the hey days of #scams there was a psa ran by my municipality saying you should save everyone as their full name so if your phone were to be stolen scammers couldn’t just easily go into your contacts to find “mom” or “dad” to ask for wiring money. it’s a habit I keep until this day, but maybe that’s weird?
