Wish Theory

The forbidden magic is a sentient entity and the face we see when Magnifico is trapped in the staff, aka the face in the evil queen's mirror, is what it looks like. The brief moment we see it in Wish is to signify that the king is now prisoner to the creature. This also means that the queen's mirror is an artifact of forbidden magic. She too is being mind controlled by it.

Hi, I saw you in the wish tag and wondered if you have any favorite fics that you’d recommend? (I’m not a big fan of Starboy though)

Wish Retold is my absolute favorite right now. Its on both ff and ao3. Unfortunately it hasn't been updated since September 1, but I know the author hasn't abandoned it either.
