Favorite thing about the Red Note shenanigans: Mongolian ranchers suddenly gaining a rabid following of American horse girls and being like "we knew you had cowboys but we didn't know you value and love horses as friends like we do, this is excellent"
Mongolian rancher 🤝 American horse girl synergy I guess

~
I structured this in a way that is central to the overarching narrative of Midnights: examining sleepless nights through her career.
Anti-Hero would be a great opener as she recontextualizes herself and her music. She perceives herself as an ‘underdog’ when she debuted so this also represents her first era.
You’re Own Your Own Kid is a fitting track that could symbolize her ‘Fearless’ era: turning 18, becoming more famous, and a foreshadowing of what’s to come. It was also supposed to be Track 3 but the next song is probably more personal to her….
Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve is a retrospective song about a young woman dating a man who’s much older than her… coincidently, she had a similar relationship experience in the ‘Speak Now’ era.
Maroon is ‘Red’ but ‘matured’. She was no longer 22. (She was 32 at the time of Midnight’s release). All those years changed her… for better or worse.
Bejeweled is how some would describe her ‘1989’ era. A reminisce about the past. That she still got it. She is dazzling. She was everywhere. She had everything… until 2016 happened.
The Great War is a more ‘stripped-back’ and melancholic take on the ‘reputation’ era. It was a fight she had to endure that will ultimately shape her future.
Sweet Nothing is a softer take on ‘Lover’. After feuds and drama, she just wants lay down with her loved ones.
Bigger Than The Whole Sky represents ‘folklore’ in a way that she talks about the past and of the people and things she had lost. It’s part of her healing process.
High Infidelity might pertain to her fears of cheating and losing the love of her life (another foreshadowing?) which fits the darker/moodier tone of ‘evermore’.
Midnight Rain kind of encapsulates her newest era and sound for this album. Long into the night, she starts to feel drowsy, feeling tired of thinking about ‘what ifs’ and the like.
Snow on the Beach (needed that re-record) and sits between the darkest hour and the upcoming morning. It is gentle and almost feels like a lullaby to wake you up.
Dear Reader is a perfect epilogue to this story. It talks about introspection and maturity. It’s helpful advice mixed with self-deprecation. A fitting end for a night of no sleep.
For the Deluxe (After Dark), I thought to reverse the order.
Question…? deserves to be the first track as it feels like you’re drunk but you’re actually just sleep-deprived.
Paris is bright and bubbly and is perfectly ‘Lover’.
Vigilante Shit is what everyone thought about ‘reputation’ at a surface level. I put Ice Spice (and Billie Eilish) here because they fit in this song more than the next track.
A supposed ‘lost record’, Karma is redone as a way for Taylor to reclaim the ‘snake’ narrative that she was put through in the past.
Glitch is in a weird spot (along with another song further down the line) but it represents a combination of ‘1989’ and ‘Red’.
Lavender Haze is a reference to the color of ‘Speak Now’. Also, I was debating on whether or not CRJ should be here or ‘Paris’ but I chose this song for it to be some sort of ‘penultimate’.
Labyrinth is the other song I implied in Glitch. While they might seem interchangeable, this leads into the next song more smoothly in a narrative sense/context. (It also kinda represents ‘Fearless’ in a way [being lost in the music industry].)
Mastermind closes out this whole album (and era as a whole). It recontextualizes Labyrinth as a maze/contraption that she set up and as well as her habit of putting ‘easter eggs’ on her songs and marketing (almost like she planned her life out in the beginning…).
Finally the last 2 songs are relegated to Bonus Tracks as they were released far into the era. I flipped the order (Hits Different came first before You’re Losing Me) so that it ends on a higher note/tone.
that’s all and thanks for reading ✨

bumpin that to those who need to read it /gen /lh
People who use AO3, please stop panicking about the new tick boxes you have to agree to before you can access the site.
It's not because of the election - the obligation to provide info under a court order when asked is common with nearly all websites and AO3 doesn't collect as much information in you as, say, Discord does.
You're seeing this because AO3 changed the wording of its Terms of Service recently so now you have to re-agree.
AO3 tries to be as user-friendly as possible internationally, but they still have to abide by the Law where they're based.
The US can issue a warrant to your Internet Service Provider if they have cause to. If you still use Facebook, Instagram or tumblr, I wouldn't panic about your AO3.
