Great news in the Aldridge household. Marie is with child. Not just any child, the heir to the Aldridge estate. Proud of his accomplishments, Alexander is delighted with the news that he will be a father and hopeful have an boy to carry on the Aldridge name. Marie however is anxious about the upcoming changes. Motherhood has never really appealed to Marie, but like her marriage she will face this endeavour and strive for the best. 

As with everything time moves quickly in the Aldridge household and the heir to the Aldridge legacy was born. A gruelling birth, longer than most and leaving Marie exhausted. Well supported by Edith and Margaret and with no assistance from Alexander, Marie was rewarded with a beautiful baby boy. Delighted with this news Alexander celebrated whilst Marie recuperated with a well deserved sleep. 

A baby boy. Heir to the Aldridge legacy. Edith is overjoyed to have met the heir and to be a part of his life, even if it may not be for long, she has vowed to support Marie and do everything she can to protect William Aldridge.

Lady Edith takes herself away from the hustle and bustle of family life to the tranquil of the sitting room to enjoy a calming tea. Updated in the extravagant renovation, as governed by Alexander, this room has become a comfort for Edith in these recent days. Decorated in her colours, to commend the care she provided, this room is a place that allows Edith time to ponder her thoughts. With Lady Marie as the new Baroness, and the world changing, Lady Edith feels her purpose in life is coming to an end. 

Just what I needed Edith uttered aloud, taking a sip of her camomile tea. As her mother had always said, “tea was perfect for calming the nerves and clearing the mind of all ails”. Edith has been in particular need for tea of late. With her own demise approaching she worries about her children, in particular Alexander and Albert. Without her she wonders if Alexander will keep his anger in check and whether little Albert will learn to control his vices. Her eyes filling with tears and with a heavy sigh she swirls her tea, saying to herself “tea clears the mind of all ails”.

Newly refurbished, the Aldridge house has been updated for a more contemporary look in the 1920′s

Proud of his design, Alexander even had an extension added on to the garden as tribute to his father’s garden, leaving his mother overjoyed. Alexander does not care much for gardening, but as the man of the house and heir to the Aldridge name, it is his responsibility to honour his father.

Another grandchild?! Edith can’t believe her luck. Her first born daughter, Elizabeth has had another baby and this time, a beautiful girl. Identical to Elizabeth when she was at this age, with the dark curls, and cheeky grin, Edith reminisces about her daughters younger days and how time has passed so quickly. 

Albert would have loved to have met his first granddaughter, she ponders to herself, whilst holding Mary tightly for the first time. Mary wriggles her eyes wide in look for reassurance from her mother. Edith comforts her and talks to her about the days of when her mother was a child and how alike they are. Soothed by the calmness in Edith’s demeanour Mary begins to relax in Edith’s arms. 

Full of joy and laughter, Edith is proud to be surrounded by her family on such a day, and immerses herself in the time that she gets to spend with her grandchildren.

With the overpowering pressure from society and her own brother, who is adamant that a sister of a well established politician cannot stay unmarried, Lady Margaret has given in and agreed to meet Lady Marie younger Brother, Lord Jacob Crumplebottom.

Chaperoned by Lord Alexander as expected of his duties and head of the family, Lady Margaret was expecting an awkward encounter with at which she could add to her novel as a critique of the ludicrous expectations of women in the 1920′s. Lord Jacob smooth talking and humour, ironically about societal pressures marvelled Lady Margaret and soon there was more than just smooth talking between them.

Not much has been mentioned about Young Albert Aldridge. The youngest of 5 and with a large gap between him and the 4th born, Margaret, Albert has had a difficult childhood. Almost certainly not neglected and was provided with the same amount of care as all of his siblings, but Albert felt isolated from his siblings. With his father and older brothers leaving for war when he was a toddler, his sisters being teenagers and beginning to court, young Albert was left to entertain himself, which was fine for Albert as he preferred his own company. However, when his father dying when he was a child verging on adolescents, everything changed for him. 

Albert differs from the other Aldridge men. Not ambitious or hot headed like Alexander or calm and compassionate like Edward, Albert leads a more mischievous and rebellious lifestyle. Not one for rules Albert is know to every speakeasy and for his enjoyment of liquor. 

Debauchery, gambling, drinking all the vices of the 1920′s. Albert enjoyed them all, experiencing no guilt for his desires and joining the gangs that empowered these behaviours.

Grooms are notoriously known for sweating with nerves as they anticipate the arrival of their long awaited bride gifted to them like a prized possession and of course, accompanied normally with a large dowry in agreement  of securing high social standing. Alexander, however, was Calm, and collected. He had no qualms and no worries about this marriage, even if he was marrying above his class. Self-assured in nature, Alexander was satisfied with the prize he was being offered and a beauty ready to bare the heir he required. To him this was business not love, but he vowed to himself that he would be a good husband. He would ensure Marie had what she needed and he would have what he required, a devoted wife and a legacy to continue. Not to mention the perfect addition to support his political career. 

Marie, smitten as she was, nervously glided down the aisle. A beauty as elegant as a swan with no feathers ruffled. Unsure if she was ready for marriage, she knew this was the only way to secure her future. Taught how to recite these precise vows from birth, she was trained and prepped for this ready for this very moment. To have and to had from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish till death do us part. 

A beautiful ceremony, for this idyllic couple. They danced, they ate, all whilst the guests awed in their flawless nature, or how it were perceived. They shared Lady Edith’s famous iced cake and even this was done in such a perfect manner. 

And to commiserate their marriage, the beautiful Lady Marie played an elegant song,  whilst the guests listened, envious of their match and of their picture of elegance and perfection. 

The newly weds appeared joyous and ready to begin their new life together. Yet as perfect as it seems, this is not always the case in such high standing marriages.

It has been a while since Edith has seen her first born daughter, Elizabeth, since she was married to Henry Lance to be exact. A fine gentleman and a first-class arrangement. Living in the next town over, and too far to visit regularly, Edith was overjoyed when Elizabeth, announced that she was with child. 

Not long after, Edith was able to meet and hold her first grandson. With teary eyes Edith hugged young Eric and felt proud. A new child to spoil and care for and hopefully the first of many to come

With her children all grown up and no husband to care, Lady Edith is craving something new to nurture and to care for. Finding solace in gardening, Edith has begun working as a gardener, tending and harvesting, and and caring for an abundance of plants. Peaceful and satisfying, Edith savours her moments outside. It may not bring Albert back and at times is tiring, but this new direction allows her to feel closer to her recently departed husband and provides her with a life to nurture, whilst she awaits restlessly for grandchildren!

Meanwhile, Margaret is struggling with the death of her father. Using books and writing to express her emotions, she is pursuing a career in writing. However, Margaret is of age and Edith is determined to get her wed before the season is up. Despite her mothers persuasion Margaret is determined to avoid marriage and concentrate on writing the prefect novel. Of course she aspires a family and the pressure from the eldest brother is profuse, but Margaret is determined to become a successful penwoman before succumbing to her womanly duties.

With the responsibilities weighing heavy on him since his fathers death it is tine for Alexander to sire an heir to carry on the lineage. Although know as a grifter, Alexander has manged to use that charm to court a beautiful doll, Lady Marie Crumplebottom, daughter of the Count of Widenburg . A looker with perfect genes for an heir and a title to match. 

Proud of his choice and smitten with desire Alexander got down on one knee, confident that his proposal would not be rejected. As predicted, Lady Marie accepted the proposal and is left smitten by Alexander's smooth talking and charm. However, this young canary, is no means a fool and is aware of Alexander's ambition.

After catching up on his studies and aging into a fine young man, Edward is ready to embark on his new journey into the world of medicine. Inspired by his experiences at war and the war doctors that saved his life, he is ready to dedicate his life to studying festering wounds and disease. Edward has always been a genius, striving for knowledge, but unlike his brothers narcissist and arrogance Edward's ambitions are more virtuous and he aspires to work not for fame or money, but to save the lives of others. A truly compassionate man, haunted by his experiences of war and suffering from long periods of gloom and despair.

The Golden Age Twenties. Still grieving the loss of their Father the Aldridge's are ready for the roaring twenties and the fast paced development of the time. Change, growth and new beginnings. Alexander as head of the family is ready to take on his new found responsibilities and become accustomed to all the changes this decade brings. Radios, the right to vote for all women and the era of Jazz and prohibition.

The day has come, where Albert Aldridge, founder of the Aldridge legacy has parted from this world. The cause of his death unknown, it is believed he died in sleep.

Here lies Lord Albert Aldridge, Baron of Widenberg. Husband, father and dedicated gardener. 

Distraught as the family are, it is time for Alexander to take his place as the man of the house and carry on the Aldridge legacy. Hesitate about his new responsibilities and grieving his father, he must now support his widowed mother and his youngest sister, Margaret. 

Whereas Edward, fortunate not to have the responsibility of heir, must decide on his career and how he will begin his own lineage. In all the commotion this author must comment on the forgotten Young Albert. Still a child and haunted with grief he must continue without a father to guide him or show him right from wrong.

Courted, proposed and wedded!

Upon the return of the men from war Elizabeth received a caller from Lord Henry Lance a viscount, who got down on one knee and proposed. Approved by Albert, Elizabeth accepted Mr Lances proposal and excited at the prospects of marrying such a catch!

A quick proposal sometimes adds the question of scandal or a couple truly in love. In this case it is believed that this was the latter of the two, and the couple were whisked up in a whirl of romance.

A bespoke, but small wedding at the local church, filled with only close family, the couple were wedded quickly and are well on their way towards marital bliss. A touching beginning for the eldest Aldridge daughter.

Alexander survived the war and is now a young adult. As heir for the Aldridge legacy, he feels ready to start a career in politics. Self-assured, and confident he feels no need to wait but to dive straight in to work. However, it must be noted that at time Alexander experiences a rage so intense that all in his path must beware as his wrath is diabolical. This anger served him well in the trenches, and ensured his survival. With such a responsible position as heir, anger must be kept in check to avoid ruining the Aldridge name. 

Time will tell if he will succeed or let the rage consume him.

Welcome home! The war has ended and they have physically survived the terrors of war. Rejoiced the girls greet their loved ones. Joyously, Albert Jr runs to his father, a glorious first encounter

Grateful for their return, Edith holds her eldest, Alexander tightly. The heir of the Aldridge's has survived, but has been shaped by the experiences he faced at war. Thankful for their mothers embrace, the boys are joyful to be home and ready to embark on their next adventure. Alexander must decide on a career and still a teenager Edward looks forward to returning to school and catching up on his studies. 

Aged, tired, and changed. Albert retires to the arm chair with a stiff drink, ruminating on his experiences that have forever changed him. No longer as self-assured as he once was, Albert spends most of his time self-medicating and experiencing periods of gloom.

Elizabeth has come of age. It is time for her to find a husband and begin her own marital journey. Edith is discussing the suitors she feel are suitable for her eldest daughter. Margaret on the other hand is has no interest and is enjoying her time reading.
