i’m fine. really. i know you don’t believe me when i say that, heck i don’t believe myself. but if i admit what’s really going on, it wins. so i’ll show you my teeth, go outside only to feel the warmth of the sun on my skin, have meaningless sex with faceless jocks who will never love me back and fake happiness so hard that god himself couldn’t call me a liar. there’s no point trying to actually get better when the worlds falling apart. our planet is dying, people are still scared of holding their partners hand in public, parents are afraid of sending their children to school because there’s a good chance they won’t come home. i stopped using my phone so much. stopped turning on the radio. no longer check the headlines. no one can tell me the bad news if i’m not listening. so if one day i disappear and never come home, please know i had to leave. if i find a place where the sadness isn’t so heavy i’ll let you know. in the mean time there’s no need to worry i’ve perfected the art of swallowing it up. i’ll be fine. there’s no other choice.
