—the morning debriefs tim is absolutely sandwiched in between both you and angela. you and he have your sides pushed against each other, blaming on how close the seats are. but angela just sends a side-eye y’all's way before brushing it off. 

—making small bets on little things throughout the days. at first it was used as an excuse on why tim is constantly bringing you either coffee or lunch. however, it turned into a small competition of who was the better profiler. 

—NOTES.

—this man is always leaving little sticky notes around your desk, in your car, on your phone. from little things like you look pretty to us tonight? with a poorly drawn stick figures in what was supposed to be a bed. 

—you have a small box in your room full of them. starting to add the date onto the back of them but giving up on that after forgetting to do it so many times. your favorite ones are taped up on your vanity mirror along with other photos of the two of you and your friends.

—now you did sneak him notes, thinking it was fun and reminded you of your high school years. but your notes weren’t just placed on his desk, no he was expecting that. instead of the photo of you in his wallet, one from a photo strip from when you dragged him into one of the booths, a small piece of paper would cover the photo. sometimes it would be a random scrap that you ripped from a junk mail envelope. or even a gum wrapper that would make his wallet smell like mint. 

—sneaking quick kisses in empty hallways or rooms.

—grabbing him by his belt loop or collar and into a room. locking the door and quickly getting to work on the day you can’t help the desperate need of him.

—tim is always finding a way to have a hand on you. Leading you through a crowded space with his hand on the small of your back. you grabbing the sleeve of his jacket when he was leading through rainy/rare cold weather. sitting through any lectures or debriefs you two were sat next to each other interlocking your pinkies where no one could see. 

—now the reason for the relationship to be a secret isn’t because he doesn’t want anyone to know that he loves you. it’s because he doesn’t want anything to change at work, and you agreed on that. you’ve seen how something as simple as a relationship between two people on the same level can royally screw things up. so, work became work and the moment you two are out of uniform is when you're allowed to melt into each other. do any and all the lovey dovey relationship bullshit that you’d want.q

When Tim told you that he joined the Army you were happy for him. Every person in your high school had told you that it was the most horrible thing to have ever happened. That he is going to die. If he didn’t die, then he would cheat on you. You shouldn’t be tied down while going to college to get your degree. This time was your prime to explore and date around, meet new people. That being stuck in a long-distance relationship wouldn’t do anything but bring you pain. 

But you didn’t pay any mind to it. Neither one of you ever did.

The two of you are a year apart, meeting after one of his football practices. Giving him a ride after seeing him walking home. A conversation turned into talking in the halls, into sitting together at lunch to continue what topic that they were talking about before they had to leave. Library sessions because as fate would have it, even though you were a year a part, you shared the same AP History class. Not during the same class period, no but the same teacher who was going to give the same final. Late night study sessions turned into more car rides. Even though you swear that no one else was allowed to drive your car other than you, on the nights that you seemed extra tired Tim was the one to drive. 

The moment when things changed was in that car.

During winter break the two of you had met up, parked in a far spot and watched the crazy scene of last-minute holiday shoppers. It was extra cold that day so you two were smushed together and that's when all the feelings that you had tried to push down shot right back up. It also happened for Tim. Except for him all of those feelings and nervous of not wanting anything to go wrong (say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing, etc.) had turned into a small amount of adrenaline. Enough to cause him to push his lips against yours. 

From then on you couldn’t see one without the other.

Joint at the hip. 

It annoyed people at the sight. It wasn’t the high school couple that were hanging off each other or trying suck each other’s face off. No, it was the fact that it was a healthy relationship that made them sick.

Waiting for the honeymoon phase to end and the train wreck to start. That the moment that things end they’d be able to swoop in and say ‘i told you so’ along with anything that they had been biting their tongues about. 

But that day never came. 

Instead, you two hit every milestone together. Prom, Tim’s graduation, Tim getting accepted into the Army, your first day of senior year, another prom, your graduation, you getting accepted into college, and Tim finally being told he completed everything to get shipped out to basic training.

Now none of this was the normal happy rainbows and rays of sunshine. They had their ups and downs. Your family wasn’t exactly an easy bunch to deal with, but Tim’s…. Well let’s just say there were a lot of nights spent waking up to him outside your window. Sometimes his sister, Gennifer, would join your slumber party. Tim usually having to take the floor, allowing you and his sister the bed. Letting her tag along a few of y’alls random dates when things were extra dicey at home.

That’s why when Gennifer had told you neither their mom nor dad were coming to Tim’s ceremony you were furious. 

Not completely at his parents, you had already had thoughts that they weren’t going to want anything to do with it. But the fact that they told Gennifer not to go was what really set you off. Coming up with a plan for her to lie and say she was spending the night at a friend's, when in reality you had picked her up down the street and took her with you. Spending the night at y’alls apartment. Even finding the box full of the letters he had sent back to you. Happy that you kept your favorite ones in your nightstand.

The ceremony had finally ended, and they had finally given the families to go ahead to tap out their relatives. 

It didn’t take long to find him. The moment your eyes found him they never left him. 

Nine long months. 

Not being able to see him, to talk to him regularly on the phone, having to wait for letters in the mail. On the days you spent missing him extra more, you’d wear one of his shirts that still smelt like him and listened to the voicemails you had saved.

Finally reaching him, reaching up on the tips of your toes placing your arms on either side of his face. Officially tapping him out. His arms snapped out and quickly wrapped around you. Pulling you close and picking you up. Needing to hold you, to feel you. Setting you back on the ground and looking at you. The same look that made you melt. The same look that made you not have a care in the world. The same look that you had been waiting for what seemed like lifetimes to see again.

If you are taking any requests I’d love a Tim Bradford one where maybe him and reader are married and have a few kids who say stuff like “you’re always touching/kissing mom” or “you always do what mom says”. Idk just soft domestic fluff.

Tim’s routine after work was always the same. He makes sure the long list of items that need to be done gets done. Each item that needs to be checked in and signed for is done.

Clocks out and changes from his uniform back into his civilian clothes.

Try to beat the L.A. rush hour traffic.

Failing to beat the rush hour. 

Text you that he did not beat rush hour.

When he does finally reach the front door of your shared home it is usually between 7-7:30 p.m. From the moment he walks through the threshold he becomes fully at your mercy. As if he wasn’t already. 

He drops his bags on the small bench by the door. Taking a seat to take off his boots, all while Kojo demands his ‘welcome home’ pets. Making sure to put his keys, pocketknife, wallet, and any other items that were in his pockets into the small dish housed on the shelf above the bench. 

Making his way to the kitchen with a slight frown of his brows. Normally your kid, a five-year-old girl, would be trying to tell him everything she did today in one single breath. While you watched from wherever the two of you had been before he walked in. Usually scoping her up into his arms and walking over to you, giving you your normal ‘back in one piece’ kiss. 

But this time was different.

Things were far too quiet.

Now normally he would assume that you two were just asleep somewhere. 

It wasn’t just any normal silences (besides the normal background house noises), it came with a sweet cinnamon smell. Along with a warmth that meant the oven was on, and you were baking something.

When he walked into the kitchen he was met with your five-year-old and you sat on the floor, watching the oven window as if it was a t.v. screen. Your girl’s face is bright and joyful with a wide smile, looking over at him. Making his own smile grow at the sight. “Daddy, you almost missed it!’ Jumping up she raced over and grabbed his head and pulled him to their spot. Turning her attention right back to the silver circle pan full of cinnamon rolls. 

You turned to him; his smile caused you to smile. “I promised her cinnamon rolls this morning, and we got busy.”

“So, this is desert?”

“See I did marry you for more than your good looks.” He shook his head slightly, still looking at you like you were the most beautiful thing he has ever seen. Reaching up and cupping your cheek he brought you into a kiss. One that you felt him melt into. All of the worries that he had from a day of work were gone. Not fully. But at this moment it didn’t matter.

“Ewwww,”

The two of you laughing is what caused you to part. Looking to seeing your child giving her parents a gross look before turning back to the glass. You simply shook your head, turning your attention back to Tim. Taking him in. He had kept his morning promise, a promise he always made before leaving the house. Making it back in one piece to you. Of course, you knew he was only a text, or call, away. Having gone a whole shift without an answer. Nearly calling the station when the words that said ‘read’ and the current time caused you to relax. You started to take in every inch of his face, as if you didn’t already have it memorized. “Hi baby,”

He caressed his thumb across your cheek, you lean fully into his hold, “Hi sweetheart,” Then he scooted over so he could wrap his arm around you, pulling you into his side. Your hand reached up and trailing your nails up and down the back of his neck, while your other hand rested on his chest. Tapping it and popping your head up from his shoulder to look at him when the thought pop into your head, “I almost forgot. I made spaghetti and your plate is in the microwave. I can heat it up if you want?”

“But you’ll miss the rise!” 

Tim nodded his head to the small girl with large pout, already knowing that she was waiting to see the dough raise up. “You heard her, we can’t miss the rise!” He exclaimed, with kiss to your temple.

“Why do you always have to touch Mommy?”

“Because I love Mommy,” He then reached forwards pulling the small girl into his lap, as your body turned so it could be touching both your child and husband. And just like that every worry that you had, rather it being Tim’s job or everyday issues was gone. Because in this moment nothing else mattered. Nothing but the three of you in this kitchen.
