Daily Tarot For The Spiritual Journey
October 11, 2018 - 5 Of Wands
The Card:
The minor arcana suit of Wands corresponds to the element fire - active, directed outwardly, inspiration, self-expression, and the power of will. This suit represents stepping into your personal power and embracing expansion. In numerology, the number 5 signifies freedom, change, instability, and stress. This can mean adventure, movement, and challenges lie ahead. In the Rider-Waite deck, the 5 of Wands depicts five men raising their wands in different directions and they appear to be in disagreement - directing their energies in different directions.
The Reading:
When the 5 of Wands appears in a reading, as the keyword “strife” at the bottom of the card suggests, it can mean competition, disagreements, and confusion stemming from ego battles are afoot. The card indicates a struggle for recognition, money, or power in your life. This could be battles stemming from the ego that disrupt the flow of harmony, or possibly competition for resources. Here we are operating from the mindset of scarcity and disagreements and confusion can ensue.
The 5 of Wands often appears when we are unhappy in our current work environment. This may be due to the stress related to our job satisfaction, personality clashes that occur at work, or feeling overwhelmed by the amount of responsibilities we must juggle. For those in relationships, the 5 of Wands indicates strife in which one or both individuals act from a place of ego rather than from the heart space. When both parties act in a way to diminish their self-respect, the outcome could be very detrimental rather than the peace that could be found in seeking a mutual resolution from a place of love.
This card advises you not to make any rash decisions. Instead, wait until you have had time to objectively think about what direction you’d like to take your energy in a way that will be most beneficial to you. Further bickering and thinking solely about self-interest will exacerbate irritation, fueling the discontent that arises from varying personalities and philosophies. Instead, try to act from a place where you are not only comfortable with diversity and difference of opinions, but value it! Realize everyone has a unique experience and perspective to bring to the table and you will benefit by learning what they have to offer.
