A man of little means and fewer needs, a Chicano writer/poet living in Saginaw, a cashier who's been told by his customers that he "looks like he fucking hates life."

I’ll just take your word for it. Wrestling with the outdated language in Shakespeare’s works has never been fun. The human race has written way better dick jokes and way better pretentiousness in the four hundred years since the man died. You don’t have to do this to yourself anymore! Love yourself and read Pachinko or something.
maybe i'm just a grumpy english major but i feel like a lot of the "lol people think shakespeare is pretentious but actually his plays are just dick jokes and swordfighting" posting can verge into "lol what if the curtains are just blue" territory. yes shakespeare plays are full of those things AND they are also profound and complex and thematically rich. people spend their careers analyzing them for a reason, actually. it's not just dick jokes all the way down. and sometimes people spend their careers analyzing the dick jokes. stop trying to pick one side of the dichotomy between high and low culture. it's both. it can be both.

The fact that there's an actually functional website for the library of Babel is one of those things that fucks me up more and more the more I think about the implications.

My dad died when we couldn’t remember his blood type.
As he died, he kept saying “be positive”
I’ll try but it’s hard without him.

One of the things that sucks about being an animation nerd is having to live with the fact that, from a technical standpoint, the Hotel Transylvania movies are absolutely ground-breakingly staggeringly incredible.

You are seriously up in here arguing that anybody that disagrees with you regarding the best electoral path to take come 2024 is a fascist? Do you hear yourself? If you truly believe that then you have no idea what fascism is. You are not going to convince anybody that doesn’t already agree with you to “vote blue no matter who” when you’re insulting them from the jump. Nobody owes it to your neoliberal feelings to vote the way you want them to.
Whether or not you want to acknowledge it, you are acting as a shameless shill for the Democratic party and the neoliberal order. If you are, or ever were, a progressive, than you have sold out. Just look at AOC. When she first came in she was protesting outside Pelosi’s office. Now? She calls her Mama Bear, she voted present on the Iron Dome, she hosted a military recruitment drive for high schoolers. There is no changing the party from the inside, because once you’re inside the party changes you. If you really want to change the party you have to threaten their hold on power.
I vote Green because I realized that if you are never willing to take away your vote from the Democratic Party that they will never have any reason to address your concerns. They don’t a damn about us, they care about maintaining their power, so if you are never willing to threaten that they will just keep taking you for granted. There actually has been evidence of that functioning. Before the Green New Deal was ever a twinkle in the eyes of progressive Democrats, Howie Hawkins ran on a Green New Deal platform as a Green candidate for the governor of New York in 2010. He only received 5%, but the mere fact that a third party candidate could get even that much scared Andrew Cuomo into taking up proposals he never supported before, like a ban on fracking, a $15 minimum wage, and paid family leave.
You make the mistake of thinking that the point of organizing is to to win the next election, when in reality it’s about building a movement that can enact political change. Any such movement that you try to build within the Democratic party will necessarily be crushed by the party establishment. You can not guilt and shame people into political action, that will only alienate them. Even if I’m going to be sympathetic to your ends, you have to reckon with peoples’ feeling of betrayal from the Democratic party. A person isn’t stupid for refusing to vote for a candidate or party that burned them, that’s just logical. If you want to bring them back into the fold you have to meet them where they’re at.
tl;dr - you have fun selling your soul and voting for your favorite sex offender. I’ll be over here, voting Green, and having some damn standards.
right now it’s almost halfway through 2023, and 2024 is an election year in the US. I have started to see a growing proliferation of posts suggesting that there is no difference between the republican and democratic parties–the exact same kind of posts I saw an awful lot of before the last major election here. I am unfollowing folks who post or reblog these sort of posts, as I consider these posts to be fascist propaganda framed as leftist discourse, designed to suppress anti-fascist votes and voters.

the most disorienting thing thats ever happened to me was when a linguistics major stopped in the middle of our conversation, looked me in the eye, and said, "you have a very interesting vernacular. were you on tumblr in 2014?" and i had to just stand there and process that one for a good ten seconds

To be fair to the parents, every time they prepared lobster, they always made sure to save one lobster. They are doing more to save the lobsters than the rest of us.
