Doors of Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara are Opening from May 22, 2022 - Know Why This Pilgrimage is Special to Sikhs
Tumblr media
As the authorities have declared the Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra Opening Date 2022 of the portals (doors) i.e. 22nd May, the pilgrims have started planning their journey to this significant pilgrimage site. Hemkund Sahib (also spelt as Hemkunt Sahib) is one of the major Sikh Gurdwaras. It is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Being situated in the snow-covered mountains, the Gurudwara is open for Darshans by pilgrims only 5 months a year and for the rest of the time, the way to reach Gurdwara Sahib is usually covered with heavy snow.
Like every year, this year also on the occasion of Baisakhi, the corps of the Indian Army under the auspices of Gurdwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust reached Gurdwara Govind Ghat and enthusiastically celebrated the festival of Baisakhi. After this, the date of the visit to Hemkunt Sahib was announced this year. So, the journey to Hemkunt Sahib will start on 22nd May. According to the trust, from the constant inquiries of the passengers, it is estimated that this year the journey will be full.
Devotees from far and wide can reach Govind Ghat by the ride. But, this should also be kept in mind that the road ahead of around 3 kilometers has to be crossed on foot. This is so because the road is covered with heavy snow which will, like every year, be cut by Indian Army personnel.
According to an article, the servants (Sewadars) of Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust are also accompanying the army. The manager of Govind Ghat Gurdwara Seva Singh congratulated the army personnel who came for this work and thanked them. District Officer Himanshu Khurana has instructed all the departments to make necessary arrangements for this yatra and the facilities of the passengers and has assured that the arrangements will be smooth till about 10 days before the yatra.
Why Hemkund Sahib is So Special to Sikhs?
Hemkund Sahib, officially known as Gurdwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Ji, is a Sikh place of worship and holds a great significance in Sikhism as well as Hinduism.
As mentioned in the Sikh holy book, Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs meditated on the tranquil shores of the pristine lake here in His first birth. Here Guru Gobind Singh performed Dhyana Pujan. Which is mentioned in Dasam Granth composed by Guru Gobind Singh. Due to being a place belonging to Guru, this place was later declared Gurdwara.
In the late 19th century, Nirmala Scholar Pandit Tara Singh Narotam compiled a fictional compendium of various Sikh Pilgrimage sites, which also included the location of Hemkund Sahib. It is the inspiration for all Sikhs and their main pilgrimage site.
Significance of Hemkund Sahib Yatra among Hindus
While Shri Hemkund Sahib was dedicated to Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji (1666-1708), the 10th Sikh Guru, Hindu pilgrims kept the shrine in perfect harmony with their mythical God Lakshmana and spoke the stories related to the sites in the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
It is said about Hemkunt Sahib that this place belongs to Ramayana Kal. There was the first temple here which was built by Lord Rama's younger brother Laxmanji. There is also a temple of Laxmanji near the Gurdwara. The view here is extremely captivating. There is a lake nearby in which water comes from Hathi Parvat and Sapta Rishi Parvat.
Hemkund Sahib is home to the beautiful star-shaped Sikh Gurudwara dedicated to Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. the 4000-meter above sea level, Hemkund Sahib is a monument of great importance and a Sikh yatra visited by large numbers of Sikhs and Hindus from all over the world. Just as every Hindu wants to perform Chardham Yatra at least once in his life, so every follower of Sikhism wants to perform Hemkund Yatra at least once.
Things to Keep in Mind While Travelling to Hemkund Sahib
Assuming you arrive at Hemkund Sahib from Delhi, you first need to head to Rishikesh, which is the starting point for the trek.
The Hemkund Trek is a different, longer and steeper route and you need to set aside a busy day to complete this hike and reach the emerald-green Lake Hemkund, which has religious significance for both Sikhs and Hindus.
It is about 6 Kilometers from Ghangaria, but much steeper than the Valley of Flowers route, which takes you to over 4000 meters.
Hemkund Sahib can be reached by a difficult but intriguing and enjoyable route from Ghangaria.
Places Worth Visiting Near Hemkund Sahib
How nice it becomes when we get a chance to visit some magnificent places near a pilgrimage site.
The Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib is a 13 KM hiking trail towards Hemkund Sahib. India’s high mountain Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib can only be reached on foot from Ghangaria in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Located in Garhwal Himalayas, Hemkund Sahib is a revered Sikh pilgrimage site in India. The Chamoli district of Uttarakhand is known for Sikh Gurdwara Hemkund Sahib, nestled between the high Himalayas and humid plains and the nearby Valley of Flowers.
As the Hemkund sahib opening date 2022 has been declared by the official authorities of Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara Management Trust, the yatra gives you the unique opportunity to hike two of the most sacred yatras in the Himalayas: the Sikh pilgrimage, Hemkund Sahib and another famous Char Dham Yatra.
So, which are the other places that you can explore nearby Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara attractions? Some of them are as listed below:
Hemkund Lake
Valley of Flowers
Govindghat
Ghangaria-Ghangaria, a small village and starting point for the hike to Hemkund Sahib is also a place worth seeing.
Waterfalls-Waterfalls are in abundance as you pass through the valley of Flowers
Pushpawati River- You can see the Pushpawati River flowing through the valley.
Do not forget to click here for some beautiful photos, as it is really a picturesque moment for you to capture and relish later.
A brief about Hemkund Lake
Pilgrims making the trip to Hemkund Sahib with the best tour and travel company in India also love to worship the soothing beauty of Hemkund lake which is close to the Gurudwara. The sacred lake is located next to Gurudwara Sahib and devotees dive into it before entering the shrine. Lake Hemkund is usually covered by large sheets of freezing ice.
