Rws Tips & Advice
Rws 1302 is a really interesting and unique class. The assignments that are given are unique. They are not hard but they are time consuming. Always check your blackboard!!! Every assignment that will be due is on there. It is important to always check blackboard so you won’t forget any assignments.
Another important advice is not to procrastinate. If you want a good grade in an assignment. Take your time. Do research and be creative. Do not do your work when you have an hour to turn in your work.
Overall this class was fun and interesting. You learn new means of communication. Do not stress out over the work. Do the assignments with time and they will be easy. And if you do not understand the assignment, ask the professor. Do not have any doubts in your mind, when it comes to an assignment.

I agree, I was surprised to know that we had to do a video in a writing course. But then throughout out the course I understood why. A video is another form of communication. And in the video you can use a lot of different rhetorical strategies to convey a message just like in writing.
Week 15: Film Doc. Purpose
When the semester first started I thought to myself why would we make a video in a writing class. I thought it would have no revenants to the class. As the semester went on we learned rhetorical appeals, genres, audiences, and pretty much anything you can think of where used. While filming our documentary I realized that all these skills we learned were incorporated into our film. I would have never thought making a film would require rhetorical appeals. This assignment was probably my favorite of the class. It taught me that there are endless ways to apply what you learn in different styles of presentation, rather than just typing it on paper.
I felt our structure and delivery of the film doc did work to achieve its advocacy because we managed to inform people will at the same time being entertaining. We provided much needed information from health experts which was executed in both slides and during filming. Our group spent a lot of time in filming and coming up with ideas determining how to provide information while at the same time catching peoples attention in ways they can relate to on the topic. By demonstrating what coronary heart disease is and explaining the cause and effects it helped gain our targets audience’s attention. I’m so proud of our group, because our hard work paid off.
To answer the first question, I used pathos because I was stating my own opinion on why I believe we had to submit a film documentary in a writing class. It’s incredible how writing can be incorporated in too many things, the possibilities are literally endless. On that note I enjoyed this class so much, it challenged me to open my mind and explore different sides on my imagination.

Week 15
1.What is the purpose of submitting a video in a writing class?
The purpose of submitting a video in a writing course is to learn new means of communication. Writing is a form of communication to present a goal. But a video is another way to communicate to the audience and present a message.
2. Explain how you composed your message (purpose) in multiple forms.
Throughout the video we presented our message by many ways. We used ethos, pathos and logos. For logos we showed statistics. We also made a clip explaining what coronary heart disease is. We also explained in clips what to do to prevent coronary heart disease. These clips were both ethos and pathos. They had some humor and they were informative.
3. Did the structure and delivery of the film doc worked to achieve its advocacy? Yes/No. Explain.
I believe the structure we choose for the video was a good way to present our message. It was a unique way to present a message. It kept the audience entertain and focus on the message.
4. Select one of the questions listed and explain the rhetorical choices you made towards answering the question.
I selected question number two I used my knowledge from making the video. So the strategy used is ethos. I helped to create the video. So I know where we got the information an every we did throughout the video to achieve the goal. I used the gif of the recording of the ghost to symbolize how our group did clips for the video.

Week 14: Op-ed In Class Assignment
Point number one, good diet.
One of the main points of coronary heart disease is to eat right. Eating fruits, vegetables is a great way to reduce the chances of plaque clogging of the coronary artery.
http://familydoctor.org/familydoctor/en/diseases-conditions/coronary-artery-disease/prevention/diet-and-exercise-for-a-healthy-heart.html
Point number two, physical activity.
Another great way to prevent coronary heart disease is by staying physically active. By being physically active it helps the blood circulation. Especially in the coronary artery.
http://link.springer.com/article/10.2165/00007256-198603010-00004
Point number three, good fats vs bad fats.
The final point on preventing coronary heart disease is good fats vs bad fats. There is a huge difference between the both. Good fats can actually help lower cholesterol levels. And bad fats are the ones that start to clog up the coronary artery. By leaving out the bad fats it can help the coronary artery drastically.

I think using an article is a great idea. Articles have great valuable information. I also agree that a great article can help with ethos, pathos, and logos.
Week 14:Op-Ed
What genre are you selecting to use for your op-ed? The genre that I plan to use in my op-ed is an article because I find it more beneficial considering my topic that was chosen at the beginning of the semester. I feel like I was aiming towards a video but I think I would be rather harder to make my point clear.
Why is the genre you selected the best format for your opinion piece? The genre I chosen is best for my format because I will be able to provide current information that contains ethos, logos, and pathos. Having all of these in my opinion will ensure that I’m validating what my stance in the assignment is.
What is your stance and policy change/solution for the issue? My topic is universal healthcare and my stance I that I feel if would fail if it was free in the United States. I feel there is no solution whether you agree or disagree on universal healthcare. The only logical solution would be to find ways to improve the United States current medical care system.

I also agree that all three rhetorical strategies ethos, pathos and logos should be use in the film. By using all these three strategies it makes the film stronger, reliable, and interesting.
Week 12: Film Doc.
While conducting our outline our group decided that we will be featuring ethos, logos, and pathos in the film documentary. What I found most sufficient to help us was ethos. With ethos our group will be able to demonstrate what coronary heart disease while educating college students about the dangers.
The reason why we chose to focus on ethos was because we found numerous reliable sources that talk about coronary heart disease from health experts, pH students, and doctors. A few of the articles found were about how daily exercise can help, as well as what coronary heart disease is and the causes of this tragedy.
By using ethos, I can see other groups benefiting from this because it will provide validation of what they are trying to persuade their audiences to believe. Without the validation from reliable resources audiences may not be able to believe what other groups are trying to convey in their film documentary.

I do agree that it is hard to not be bias in this assignment. I learn not to be bias in this assignment. It is important to just provide the necessary information to the audience. So that they can make a choice of their own.
Week 10: Lit Review
1. What patterns did you find in the development, or enhancement, of your research skills?
When writing my assignment, I noticed I had a very hard time trying to not be argumentative or bias. I found that my primary research in my first draft was weak and didn’t contribute any to my paper as a whole. I was mostly frustrated because I had a substantial amount of revision to do on my paper it almost felt impossible. Once I started working on my final draft I actually started focusing more and conducting new primary research which benefited my paper dramatically. I improve sections that were rather weak and fixing grammatical errors.
2. Did your assessment/evaluation of the sources change? If so, how?
When I first found my resources for my Literature Review paper most of my sources were from academic articles from the internet. Due to time frame I mostly skimmed my articles which I realized was a bad choice because, most of the articles that were chosen were similar and had the same views on my research questions. As I progressed through the assignment I added in books and videos so my paper can have different perspectives and not be one sided. I felt this helped because it showed a variety of views and not just what the majority of experts thought.
3. Do you think the methodology described in questions 1 and 2 work? Yes/No. Explain.
I think the methodology of improving research skills and sources did help because it was easier to have a set structure for the paper. I knew what went where and every piece of information had its own place. With revision and enhancements, it made for a more informational paper rather than an opinionated paper.
4. Select one of the questions listed and explain the rhetorical choices you made towards answering the question.
The rhetorical choices I made for answering question 3 was ethos and logos. When trying to find a variety of resources I had to make sure they were logical and credible. With logical and credible resources, it makes for a more reliable paper. Having reliable resource allows readers to see proof of information and that its actually true. I used the gif because I felt as if I beat the hardest game in the world considering that I struggled so much on this paper.

Week 10: Literature Review
1.What patterns did you find in the development, or enhancement, of your research skills?
One of the patterns that I noticed in the assignment is that answering the questions and providing the answer was the main focus. Everything that was stated in the assignment had to have prove. Question, answer and prove was the pattern of the assignment
2. Did your assessment/evaluation of the sources change? If so, how?
No my sources did not change. Actually more sources were added to help prove other points throughout the assignment. But the sources that were chosen were good ones they did not change.
3. Do you think the methodology described in questions 1 and 2 work? Yes/No. Explain.
I do agree that the methodology work. It is important from the reader to know where the information came from. Most people would not believe the writer if the writer does not have evidence. It is good to know what, when, where, why and how the information was obtaining. To make the essay more reliable.
4.Select one of the questions listed and explain the rhetorical choices you made towards answering the question.
For question one I used pathos. By choosing the gif of the fish living his boring life. His life is a patter like the literature review. His life is just drive, work, and sleep. The literature review was question, answer and providing prove of the answer. Most people understand how hard and dreadful is to live a boring life and write an essay.

It is very important to make sure the information you provide to the reader is truthful. It is a great idea to use Ted Talks. They have great reliable information from scholars. I loved how in you gifs they are all Disney movies. Good job.
Week 7: Source Research
When looking for resources its always important to decide if your resources are going to be reliable. Before picking a source its good to check if there are any educational credentials, if the source was published in a scholarly journal, or if they even did research in a University/Institute.
The process of finding resources is to determine which type of genre research you want your information to come from. For example, if you wanted a video resource a good database would be Ted Talks, or if you wanted an online article a good website would be The Washington Post. If your even looking for a resourceful book the University Library will help as well as the University Library online database.
Once having found your resources its always good to review them to make sure they are not bias, argumentative, opinionated, and unreliable. Make sure to see if there is a reference list at the bottom of the article to show proof of being valid. Depending on the type of topic you have it will decide what type of databases you will use, because the resources you pick may not have any beneficial information to help you causing it be more difficult to conduct your research.

Week 7: Source Research
When doing research, it is important to find a variety of sources. Also it is important to find out if your sources are credible. You have to make sure that the information is valid and that the author who is writing the information is an educated person in the specific field you are researching.
The sources that you choose should come from different places and genres. Do not do all your research from website. You need a variety. Use websites, scholarly journals, articles, news reports, and books. There are many different ways to obtain information about your topic.
Another important aspect of research is credibility. You have to make sure that the information you are providing is truthful. If you are going to use a website, make sure it has good references and check the references. If you are going to use journals, articles or a book, make sure the author is an expert in the that particular filed. If you are doing research in heart disease it would be wise to get a journal writing by doctor like cardiologist. And for a news report, check for references and make sure the news report is not bias.

This is a great way to explain Universal Health Care. It is important for people to be inform on how this system actually works. By giving the audience all this information they can decided themselves to support or not support Universal Health Care.
Week 6: Rhetorical Choice
My topic for the literature review are the implements of Universal Health Care if implemented in the United States.
During my research I plan to unravel the truth behind having socialized medicine as a nation. I want my audience to focus on the way socialized medicine works, functions and the repercussion if any.
There is a huge misconception when it comes to talking about socialized medicine, because people hear the word “FREE” and don’t know the true statics behind universal healthcare actually being free. During my research my rhetoric appeal I’m going to use it logos because I plan to inform people using factual information about medical care and if there are ways we can improve our current medical care system.

Week 6: Rhetorical Choice
The topic I have choose for my research is Cardiovascular Disease. Heart Disease is the main cause of death in the world. So it is important for people to understand what it is and how it can be prevented.
I will explain how diet and medication can help in coronary heart disease. Then I will explain the differences in surgical treatments and finally long terms effects on coronary heart disease.
So over all the rhetorical choose that I will be using is logos. By using statistic, studies and comparisons. It would give an idea to the audience on how to prevent, treatments and long term effects.

I was also confused on what genres are. I thought they were just different type of text. Like magazines or a newspaper. But know I learn that you can categorize them as typographic, iconographic and oral.
Week 5: Genres
1. What did you know about genres before this assignment and what impact do you think studying genres may have on your writing? I can honestly say that before writing this paper I had no clue as to what a genre was. In my prior Rws class, Rws 1301 we have talked about genres a couple of times but not the specifics. The only genres that I had knowledge of were music genres, book genres, and movie genres. What I learned through studying the typographic, iconographic, and oral genres is that each genre is going to manipulate the way you will be receiving information. Ways that I see genres impacting my writing is by providing more reliable information due to the different supporting details each genre will give.
2. What are the complexities of using genres? Some complexities that were faced while using genres was trying to pick which one work well together as well as which one will provide the most information about your topic. Due to the fact that each genre has their restrictions I often questioned myself if I was choosing the right genres and if my paper was even good. While choosing genres its challenging to not sound to repetitive while speaking about them due to the face that they have some similarities. Overall genres aren’t a hard concept the grasp; it’s a matter of knowing what specific information you want to put into your writing and which information to leave out.
3. What is the value of studying and/or writing about genres? Some values that I got from writing about genres was actually learning something new and challenging myself. It was so hard to motivate myself to actually study each genre and what they are like. In the long run I benefited from this assignment because now I know I now writing skill that can help me in the future.
4.Select one of the questions listed and explain the rhetorical choices you made towards answering the question. From the first question I chose a gif because it represents my exact thought when we were introduced the genre analysis assignment. I was so confused I honestly thought that I wasn’t going to be able to write this paper. But despite my first impression on the assignment I realized it was a hard as I thought it would be. It was a rewarding feeling knowing that I had no clue about genres and I managed to write a whole paper about them. And also who doesn’t love Kanye.

Week 5: Genres
1. What did you know about genres before this assignment and what impact do you think studying genres may have on your writing?
Before this assignment I knew that genres where different forms of writing. Like a textbook, journal and diary etc.Studying genres has a huge impact in your writing. Choosing the right genre can help you convey your message in your writing.
2. What are the complexities of using genres?
The hardest part about genres is to pick the right one. And understanding how each genre works. You want a genre that will help carry out your message to people in the easiest way.
3. What is the value of studying and/or writing about genres?
By studying genres, it will be easier for the writer to choose, the kind of genre they should use for an assignment and for their message. And by knowing other genres the reader can understand others people’s writing. And how the genre is pushing people to understand their message. And by writing different genres it makes you a better writer who is open to new styles of writing.
4.Select one of the questions listed and explain the rhetorical choices you made towards answering the question. For example, if you choose a gif to help communicate your answer to the question, then you must explain why you chose that specific image. Briefly describe the rhetorical choices you made.
I selected question number 1. I choose this gif on the galaxy. Because I felt enlighten with new knowledge on genres. Genres are also classified as typographic, iconographic and oral. I did not know that. It is good to know this because this can help me in writing skills and reading skills.

These video’s are fascinating and really informative. I do believe that universal health care cost should be regulated by our government. So that the medical bills are paid by our taxes. After all health is really important.
