ComingSoon.it Interview
Laughter coming from the North: Sidse Babett Knudsen tells Mauro Donzelli February 8, 2017 A hearty laugh, a joke always ready to happen, Sidse Babett Knudsen seems more a strict view that the Danish actress joiner Australian in Susanne Bier's after the wedding or the third film of the Dogma, Mifune. The international breakthrough for this good actress came with the role of the Prime Minister of Denmark in Borgen, television series popular in many European countries, especially France, where one of the biggest fans is Catherine Deneuve. She suggested to Director Emmanuelle Bercot, desperately seeking an actress capable of interpreting the true story of Irène Frachon, doctor capable of fighting against a pharmaceutical giant to withdraw a drug by serious side effects. Before the release of 150 milligrams, came the César award in a supporting role for the Court, beside Fabrice Luchini, returning to television with the tv series, HBO's success as well as Westworld hell of Ron Howard. The genesis of the film told us in Paris, during the Rendez-Vous of Unifrance. Emmanuelle and producer I have come to find, telling me that it was some sort of Erin Brockovich French, telling me the story of Irène. I met her in Paris, is a crazy woman. Took me aside and told me ' you don't know anything about this story, I'll tell you. Has an incredible talent in using the right words to the person opposite. I was immediately hooked, she with her story. " What was your biggest challenge? The French, because it speaks very quickly. It is difficult to interpret a real person, you have many responsibilities. I saw her on television give an interview and was perfect when you need it can be a steamroller. When he saw 150 milligrams the first time sent me a message saying I had returned every emotion he felt in real life, thanking me. Then we watched the movie together and been crying continuously for both. In sobs. Irène Frachon is someone well known in France, often appeared on television, why not make a documentary but a movie? We called immediately with Emmanuelle Bercot: to get people to pay for the ticket to go to the movies we had to do something other than a simple documentary. There are elements of thriller, but universal is the story of a town that rebels against an injustice. When I read the script I thought it came at the right time. Today we need such stories, for everything that happens in the world. It is important to give the responsibility to the people. Westworld is a series in which anything can happen, no matter what happens to his character. He signed up for the second set, coming back? Well, let me see what I'm supposed to respond ... No, I can't really talk about that. We'll see what happens. I can say that while touring example we too many theories, as well as fans when they saw. How many chat with girls makeup, but also with the writers, who were always present on the set. But not go to them and ask for too much, the mystery is good to keep it intact and many things we discovered them just by reading the scripts. It all started at the international level with Borgen? Borgen was an important showcase to the world, after I received tenders; but I was trained in France and have always wanted to perform in English. I think it's a very funny language for an actor, then I grew up with the American cinema. I've always wanted to say: "Oh my God" or "Non, je ne T'aime pas, no no. Even the Finn isn't bad. All kidding aside, I would like to do more different things possible, I really like it. Why is over to study in France? It was a decision made with my girlfriends in 15 years. We said that we would go to Paris immediately, as soon as diplomate. I think the attraction comes from the movies we had seen in those years, as Betty Blue and Diva: colored reality, Bohemian and full of passion, or simply the desire to grow up and leave for a year. Then I tried to do the auditions for the theatre and they caught me and I decided to stay a bit longer. Eventually I became six years. As she found herself instead to work in American productions? I am very impressed by the actors. Always come prepared and know the joke and how to say it, from the first take. In Europe we tend more to try, try to get to the right situation. We like to talk about an art form in the United States are hyper, they find it business, a professional job. Then came a big Hollywood blockbuster as Hell, alongside Tom Hanks, with whom he worked always last year also in Tom Tykwer's film based on the novel Hologram for King, seen at Tribeca and still unpublished in Italy. I auditioned via skype with Ron Howard, my role was a mysterious white-haired woman, 60 years old. We can make some change, but I was reassured. Working with Tom Hankswas a double joy. Gives off vibes and full of joy when he's around you are just happy; I'd do anything with him. Danish films has given great directors and films, a small miracle for such a small country. With whom would you like to work at home? Maybe with Lars Von Trier? In fact I've been working for a week. I was Nicole Kidman in Dogville. I really don't believe that? And how it was to be Nicole Kidman, then? It was nice. All kidding aside, it was a test to show funders how would come on the floor with the interior designed movie-HAIA strange with a pencil. But it was a lot of fun and Lars is a very special person, there is something very sweet about him.

Sidse as a Serial Killer?
User Alskar from the Zeta Boards was kind enough to roughly translate the interview Sidse did for Allocine in French on Facebook Live. s1.zetaboards.com/L_Anon/topic/5044577/10/ It was a live interview.. no wonder the interviewer was stressed. And Sidse was very patient and kind. Sidse was surprised that they chose her to play the role of a French real people. "It's a mistake, they may think that I'm half French ((while I'm not)) I could never been a girl from Brest" It was OK because she wasn't doing an imitation : the events were true but more drama ((like the fights with the statistician)) had been added. She was playing a version of Frachon. She has met Frachon who is larger than life and a complex human being - it was a role that one dreams to have. But she prefered not to meet her a lot before the set. It was important for her that Frachon recognized her story, her pain, her fight, in the movie. It's the story of a citizen against the system - it's the essence of the movie. She hopes that this movie will inspire people. It's Catherine Deneuve (because she had watched Borgen) who suggested the name of Sidse to Emmanuelle Bercot for this movie. She is very grateful for that! She says that there is only "film of author" in France - it was Bercot vision and the team was working for that. She spent 5 years in France when she was young adult, then didn't speak French at all. She worked a lot before the set for being able to be fluent. She begins to better hear French. She don't smoke. In Westworld the cigarettes are fake, made with herb (not weed!) She explains again that she knows only her little way un Westworld, not the whole. The set was special because they are without cellphone or iPad - so, no view from the outside. She can't say nothing about the Season 2. She speaks about Tom Hanks. First she was a bit astonished ((fan mode)).She speaks very well if him. She speaks also about Omar Sy ((well, it's a French interviewer...)) She keeps saying no to a fourth Season of Borgen. And now the creator is working on another project. She explains later that they (Danish or Scandinavian people) don't do a serie with a "the longer the better" rule. It's often telling a story though 1,2 or 3 seasons. They prefer cut at the right moment. Borgen was initially planned for 2 seasons, the third was a bonus. The interviewer asked if her César ((French award... Btw her reaction was so out of French standards https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mMAMvgK9sRE)) has had effects on her career ((?!!)) like more interest/job opportunities. She answers nicely by telling that Inferno schedule has been modified in order to let her going to this event. She took a flight during the night and had the César to show them - like it was worth it. She hadn't expected to win at all. She quotes some directors that she would like to work with: Spielberg, jonze, gondry, Kaufman ((at 17')) She would LOVE to play a serial Killer. And she is trying a killer face XD She talks about series (20'40) but her English is a bit too fast for me. I understand Glee but not the others. She says that she is not very up-to-date; in Danish it's "vieux pain" ((French for "Old bread")) She speaks Danish, French, English and a bit Swedish (she is making a joke like she speaks Chinese)

ON SET WITH... Sidse Babett Knudsen.
Daily Mail 2/ 4/2012 ON SET WITH... Sidse Babett Knudsen Danish actress Sidse, 43, plays Denmark's first ever female Prime Minister, Birgitte Nyborg, in the hit BBC4 series Borgen, which has a double bill on TV tonight. Here, she opens her diary to give us a glimpse of life behind the scenes… 5 MONDAY The days on set are long and hard. We've built a complete replica of the interior of the Danish parliament buildings at a television studio in the centre of Copenhagen, and luckily it only takes me about ten minutes to get to work. But I'm always first in at around 6am. We shoot two episodes at a time over a six-week period, have a two-week break, then start again. My background is in films and theatre and this is my first big TV series, so it's a bit more like an office job, but instead of 9 to 5 it's more like 5 to 9! 6TUESDAY We're out on location a fifth of the time, and it's fun filming in and around the capital. But people do get very confused and start asking me questions about politics, forgetting I'm just an actress. We've got our own female Prime Minister now, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, and I'd love to meet her and compare notes. We're not allowed to film in the real-life Borgen - the Danish parliament - for political reasons, which is a shame. But I did get to shoot an episode in Greenland. It was my first visit and it was absolutely stunning. 7 WEDNESDAY I almost got killed today! I was in a location house, standing under a huge chandelier, when the assistant director suddenly had a funny feeling and moved me out of the way just before the whole thing came crashing down. Truly scary. Denmark is colder than England. I always feel chilly on location, so moon boots and oversized coats are standard issue between takes (right). 8 THURSDAY Birgitte has an accident and cuts her eye open, so I spend two hours in make-up, making it look as bruised and bloody as possible. There's a real feeling of shock when I walk on set, and I have to go straight into an interview with TV presenter Katrine Fonsmark, played by Birgitte Hjort Sorensen. As soon as she sees me she bursts out laughing, so we have to start again. The person I usually laugh with is Lars Knutzon, who plays Finance Minister Bent Sejro. He sometimes forgets his lines and I tease him mercilessly. 9FRIDAY The last day of shooting and I've lost 7kg, which is part of the storyline. I put on around 5kg deliberately before filming started, which was easy, but losing it has been tougher: I've eaten a lot of cabbage! There have been intimate scenes between me and my husband Phillip, played by Mikael Birkkjaer. The directors always want you to take your clothes off, but we both agreed we're too old for that, and said no. Birgitte and Phillip's marriage is under strain and our last scenes are very emotional. I'm shattered. So although there's a wrap party, I have a quiet beer and go home early.
