Sid goes back into the locker room to find Geno introducing Muzz. “Little Matty, meet Big Matty. You say he’s favourite player, right?”

Matty is absolutely starry-eyed, any shyness forgotten. “I wanna be a goalie like you and Auntaylor and Grandpa and Uncle Flower. But I like scoring goals too.”

Muzz’s eyes crinkle as he smiles. “That’s awesome, bud. You gonna take some shots on me today?”

“Can I?” Matty hops down from the stall seat and looks up at Sid. “Pleeease? Grandpa Mario said.”

A Step Too Far

Geno pranks Sid. It…doesn’t go as planned. 

For the @sidgeno-fluff-fest prompt: comfort items. Not quite comfort, but it sort of centers around an item, at least? Comes in at about 8k. 

tw: bullying (sort of, depending on your POV)

Sid’s still talking.

He’s telling the story of some WWII pilot or something—he’s talking too fast for Geno to catch all of it—and he has been for the past ten minutes. It’s gotten bad enough that everyone other than Jake has started glazing over or has escaped to the bar, and Jake’s only still listening because he still has that hero worship thing going on.

Geno wasn’t paying attention that the beginning, to be honest—he was usually pretty good at figuring out when Sid actually cared if he paid attention or when he just wanted someone to nod as he talked at him—but it’s getting ridiculous. Sid is so intense even about this, talking a mile a minute with his whole face lit up even in the dim light of the bar, his fingers running over his chain like he can’t keep still. It’s at least distracting, watching that—Sid’s fingers and the chain, how the gold slips over his blunt, strong fingers.

Comfort Items

(Thanks to the GC for helping me come up with ideas for this one!)

The softest of the soft! Does one of the boys have a beloved stuffed animal or security blanket that follows them to Pittsburgh their rookie year? Do they spend a significant amount of time on roadies hiding it from their teammates? Do they pass their childhood toy down to their own kids? Maybe it’s not something soft and cuddly? Maybe one of them falls asleep each night with a stick or a puck . Does that carry over into adulthood? Is it part of a superstition? Does Rookie Geno snags one of Rookie Sid’s sweatshirts because it reminds him of Sid, one of the few guys who have fully welcomed him to the team and Pittsburgh? Does Sid end up in one of Geno’s shirts after a hook up and just….doesn’t give it back? Is Geno incredibly okay with that?

Aka my first-ever attempt at Sidgeno.

Many thanks to @that-thing-you-roo for humoring me and giving me great ideas and helping with my terrible Sid impression. I know nothing about him. I’m so sorry.

This is for @sidgeno-fluff-fest‘s “Unconventional Meet Cute” prompt. Enjoy!

Summary: Evgeni “Zhenya” Malkin retires from the KHL after a devastating display of pride that leaves his MCL and ACL torn and ruins a teammate’s hockey career forever. Horrified at the devastation his body is capable of causing, he gives up hockey and takes on gentler pursuits, namely floristry.  Junior sports PR agent Sidney Crosby is supposed to be sleeping in and indulging in several donuts. Instead, he’s forced out into the rain-delayed traffic of West Hollywood in search of flowers for his beast of a boss in the midst of a professional crisis. He comes back to Best Blooms for dahlias and leaves with a date with his future husband.

I've been so enjoying all the fics produced by so many awesome writers for the fluff-fest. Thanks so much for organising it! I am no writer, but if anyone was looking for a prompt for this week's theme, I was talking to a friend about how awesome the wishbabies trope is, and that led to a wishpuppies idea. Like, maybe you wake up to find a sleeping puppy in a basket with your name on at the door. And maybe you need a (hot, awkward) dog sitter to look after it while you're at away games... :D

That is adorable!!! I would have a million wishpuppies.

Unconventional Meet Cute

Summary written by the lovely and talented Dana ( @knifeshoeoreofight) because this one stumped me. 

Forget running into each other on a busy street with full cups of coffee. Say no to reaching for the same item in a store. Step away from timeworn tropes, dearly as we love them. This week is about meeting a little…differently. Did a referee leap out of the way of the puck, only to fall over the boards and land in the lap of the captain of the team? Did a window washer start to fall for the guy who’s high-rise apartment windows he’s cleaning? Was a curse breaker called in to deal with the most insane curse he’s ever seen? Was a regency gentleman kidnapped by a highwayman who was actually trying to save his life?  Is there space travel? Time travel? Regular travel, but with, like sea monsters?? Whatever you choose to write, the stories for the kiddos about “how I met your father” are gonna be weird.

Score of a Lifetime

For the @sidgeno-fluff-fest prompt “travel”, the pseudo-Leverage AU no one asked for! ~9k. Rated a high T/low M for lots of elided over sex. 

The bar in Madrid is precisely the kind of bar Geno likes—glittering. It has shiny chrome accents, the flashing lights catch on gold and metallics, the partiers’ jewels shine and twinkle temptingly. Geno loves these sorts of places, even if he doesn’t take advantage of the bounty in front of him. There are people in his line of work, he knows, who do it just for the greed, but he’s never been one of them. What’s the point of winning if the game’s too easy?

So instead of making his way through the crowd and slipping some of those pretty jewels into his pocket, he sits at the bar and watches. He likes feeling like he belongs here. It feels like winning.

He feels, more than sees, the barstool next to him being filled, and smiles into his martini, sharp and satisfied. He’d thought today might end like this.

“That,” Sid says, leaning against the bar, “Was beautiful.”

Geno resists the urge to preen. Instead, he steals a glance at the man next to him. If Geno makes it a point to fit in at places like this, Sid looks painfully out of place, in his mediocre suit—like he couldn’t afford the finest tailors in Italy; like his body didn’t deserve the finest suits to show it off—and the stiffness of his back. At least he forwent his usual ballcap. He looks like someone who wouldn’t even think to aspire to a place like this—or at least, if you don’t look close enough.

If you look close enough, to the confident set of his shoulders and the steady, knowingly look in his eye—then, though, you knew. Sidney doesn’t belong in places like this. Sidney owns places like this.

I already wrote a proposal fic with last week’s prompt, Puppy Love, but I couldn’t help myself and write another one. So two proposal pics from one author! You guys are lucky! In my last fic, I had Sid proposing in a romantic way that was all planned out, but this time I decided to write Geno doing the proposing, but it goes completely wrong, but still manages to be romantic.
