this is your periodic reminder that yanks feel comfortable lying about Korea (both North and South) and Japan all the damn time, and so many of you just walk right into it because you all think it's a reactionary wasteland over there, and this extends to the so-called "progressive" "social justice" liberal yanks. There's no fixing any of you and the only way to begin is to kick out all the military occupation in Pacific-East Asia that makes you all think you all have this weird ownership of my people via guns pointed at us.

like I think that there exists a mystical distinction between internet leftists who don't do anything but have bad opinions online and Real Organizers who do stuff and that automatically makes their articulations better, when the reality is that people who Do Things you might consider effective won't see eye to eye with you on everything and might even be wrong or un-nuanced in their analysis

& I'm very aware of how my conceptualization of power is derived from imageboard discourses in my late teens / early 20s especially the contingents who following WikiLeaks, Lulzsec, Snowden, and other cybersecurity activists who might be seen or dismissed as liberal by a more radical leftist conceptualized society as an interconnected graph through which information & power flow through.
there are many ways of conceptualizing this graph and it seems good enough, at least to me, to consider the ways in which revolutions or even just suppressed but successful actions
I've participated in successful actions with comrades who felt my contributions were meaningful to the extent of direction like "we should do food not bombs things" and then doing them, how opsec is relevant to activity, in justification of a diversity of tactics, how to effectively perform collective accountability, the inclusion of nondiscriminatory needle exchange and drug checking into a chapter's practice - these are what I consider to be accomplishments.
i guess I still feel insecure because I haven't read deleuze or lenin in spite of being told that I would like them and finding political discourse difficult, at times, with people who have. I have difficulty seeing agreement as anything other than a suppression of disagreement, done out of politeness and that dismissal in this context has a reason which might actually be useful. in both cases there is a concealment of reasoning which could improve upon the activities in question that seemingly has more to do with winning arguments online or buffering (or discrediting) someone's reputation than frankly accomplishing anything at all.
so, I feel bad for continuing to think about power this way since I was in college, but it seems to work

people doing idea genealogy on movements has to be one of the biggest stumbling blocks of leftist theory. it's not materialist in the slightest and while marginally useful I have never seen that usefulness realized, it's always some deeply superficial analysis intended to guilt-by-associate groups / individuals / movements with one another, the most common example being TERFs and historical radical feminism. like Sheila Jeffreys probably cited Simone de Beauvoir and Betty Friedan as influneces, but Judith Butler would also and so might Julia Serano and McKenzie Wark. Which is obvious when you consider how fundamental radical feminism was to the development of feminism in our society, especially the academic variety which you see used most often in media studies (the apparent past time of feminists on the internet).
the answer is not to be broadly damning or hypervigilant of the "wrong kind" of feminism as if you were dealing with some kind of dangerous idea that might somehow infect your actions and cause you to become Evil, this is reactionary and completely misunderstands the situation of these utterances in power. the few actually existing TERFs with large platforms are not there because of the broader flaws with a political articulation, they are well-connected opportunists taking advantage of the flaws in that articulation, which arise necessarily from the fact that nobody can know everything and explain it perfectly, least of all about the future and especially when they're dead.
reactionaries who wear the mask of movements or people who might not have even liked them when alive are given the ability to do widespread violence against political minorities by the simple nature of political minority - Audre Lorde spoke on this when she stated that oppression was defined by the ability to do violence on the oppressed, that you cannot use the master's tools, and so on.
i would go on to say that mass mobilization is flawed & insufficient (but not entirely dismissible) in the way that anything which touches a large number of people has the ability to direct or incentivize the movement of those people however the reality I think is that more often than not this is only because the node in question is understood to be large, and therefore misarticulations (even if malicious) are accepted as this is seen as an acceptable way they could be realized, however only insomuch as better articulations might be simultaneously suppressed so that e.g. a news publication can maintain its monopoly on a particular kind of conversation - presented as a good to be consumed in the free marketplace.
a crucial skill that is used far less frequently is the tracing of well-connected-ness in question, that is, to seriously examine why particular agendas are promoted, exacted and orchestrated and the mechanisms by which they do so, to be more precise, the literal connections between individuals *with power* is a *potential* part of the web that can be targeted but cannot be the sole or primary form of action against an institution. other potential considerations might be the flow of resources to the institution in question, or the isolation and de-networking carried out centrally within the institution i.e. anti-union activity. also worth consideration is the role that institution plays in a broader context, such as their relationship to the government, and how that role might be transformed or eliminated.

Your children's show unfortunately has the absolute wrong take on tackling fascism. Yeah the power of friendship angle is showing a dismal lack of understanding of Marxist theory or even intro-level Leninism. Yeah my only two interests are children's media and online leftist discourse so this is gonna be a problem.

no it's because anarchists are tired of annoying whataboutism from critics who are only intent on taking them in bad faith anyway.
more philosophically speaking the construction of complex social arrangement, known to some as political economy is something that not only anarchists but many leftists, particularly Marxists, are against, so it's already in poor faith to demand that anarchists express their ideas in terms of a constructive utopia which you can then categorically dismiss with all the Marxist arguments against it - when anarchism doesn't need to be expressed in these terms anyhow. In fact, it's no anarchist but rather a particularly notorious Marxist who is known for saying that we do not have all of the words for our liberation, this does not mean it cannot be fought for and theorized. in fact this could even be the point of the conversation, if it were not for people who made it about whether identifying as anarchist made you a willfully ignorant person.
just bc someone is not familiar with the precise language of Marxism doesn't mean they automatically support bad thing and that they're ignorant, and it's awfully presumptive to treat them as if their ideology is constructed in utopian terms - "the society they envisage" - and then, after being given an explicit denial of this very assumption, argue that they secretly still have this and they're just hiding it from you because they know you'll Defeat them.
trying to argue with people like anarchblr over what would happen if the society they envisage came to be is pointless, as demonstrated by all the 'what if the world were made of pudding' responses, because they themselves posit anarchist revolution as an impossibility and support 'living anarchically' in your day-to-day life (and reading Nietzsche) as the alternative

"are you TME or TMA?" is literally just asking "are you AMAB or AFAB?" with different letters because all the nuance of the experiences of being trans are completely lost by the people who use them. every single one of them. it's a very common occurrence for trans men and intersex people of any identity (and other trans people for that matter) to be read as trans women in public by strangers due to how few people even know what trans men or intersex people are and jump to assume that we're transfem, meaning that loads of trans men and intersex across the globe are affected by transmisogyny every single day, but nobody cares about that because what they're more concerned about is your genitals. again. this is just "what's in your pants" repackaged again for the 999999999th time. good job.

there is nothing inherently radical or useful lr progressive about a politics of empathy. right-wingers have plenty of empathy for struggling CEOs and business owners, and for the white victims of sensationalised violent crimes, and for the white people they think are getting their jobs stolen by immigrants, and for abusive transphobic parents sad their kids don't want to talk to them, and for cops who fear for their lives because they saw a black child, and for us and israeli soldiers who are super traumatised by all the atrocities they committed, and for yeonmi park, and for sexual predators facing social or professional consequences, etc, etc, etc.

No bigger tell for not going to protests or doing activism than “The only ppl talking about firebombing Walmarts are poseurs who never go to protests or do activism”
It’s a lot easier to believe in the mystical powers of fresh air and touching grass if you insulate yr self from them (or anyone irl to make use of them) and thus are able to freely ascribe to them these nigh-miraculous therapeutic effects without having to go out and test the claims empirically
