okay for the dynamic game

whumpee is some kind of supernatural humanoid with horns who has major trauma about her horns being manhandled. like maybe she's been bound by them before, been grabbed by them and shoved to the ground, etc etc but the important thing is that she DESPISES people touching them or even going near them.

caretaker is a regular shmegular human who has no idea what to do when whumpee gets a pretty serious head injury RIGHT at the base of one horn

a bit of fantasy whump because why not

fantasy whump!! a challenge for me! let's see what i've got!

horned whumpee: i think it would be cool to see her embarrassed by her sensitivity because she hasn't told anyone about her trauma and doesn't want to. she's cagey and secretive.

caretaker human: she's kind, but doesn't want to overstep what's clearly a very personal boundary. however, when whumpee finally comes clean about it, she's nothing but understanding and loving.

the sitch: horned whumpee is hurt in a fight and hits her head HARD. human whumpee is terrified, but she insists she's fine, that she's not hurt, and at first, human believes her, so they push forward traveling. until she starts stumbling. human says they should take a break, thinking that whumpee is simply exhausted from the fight--until she turns around to find her leaning against a tree to keep from collapsing and with blood dripping down her face.

oooh yippeee 4 the game my ocs make an appearance

a character who is an extreme workaholic (a lot for religious reasons) and who is adamant on working and praying and doing all their normal stuff despite being sick and loopy and not being able to understand half of the words they hear and caretaker who is ripping out their hair trying to get them to lie down and rest

workaholic whumpee: (drawing on my TMA fics here) recently got promoted above their friends and they're still having a hard time adjusting. in a desperate effort not to overstep boundaries, they start to distance themselves from the others.

caretaker: their best friend who doesn't understand why they're pulling away.

what goes down: workaholic whumpee has run themselves into the ground so hard that they're exhausted and just when they think things can't get worse, they start running a fever. Big Boss pulls the team into the office for a negative performance review, much of which centralizes around whumpee's slow adjustment to the workload. Caretaker is worried, especially when whumpee excuses themself suddenly. Caretaker goes after them and finds them half collapsed.

"don't take it so personally. it's just feedback."

They confide in caretaker their fears of inadequacy, and caretaker assuages them, promising they're doing just fine and that it will take a while for things to settle down. When they finally calm whumpee down, they attempt to get them to their feet again--only for whumpee to collapse proper. but as soon as they wake up, they try going straight for their office and caretaker has to all but restrain them to drive them home.

Okay I'll bite. the relationship i'm sending is the knight refusing medical care / person who's trying to help them example

YES we love it!

knight: for this one let's say the knight is gruff and standoffish, constantly slamming doors in the faces of anyone who dares come close. until healer came along. healer got under their armor, and though they'll never admit it, there's no one else in the world they love and trust more.

healer: stubborn af!! had to be to stick around long enough for knight to let down their walls. they don't allow themselves to be brushed off--they will hold knight down and sit on them until they allow healer to treat their injuries.

plot: they're walking from one town to another through a forest when they're jumped by bandits. knight is injured protecting healer, but they manage to fight off the bandits. healer turns to knight elated--they did it! but then suddenly knight is stumbling forward and collapsing in their arms. they don't even have time to form the question of what happened before they pull their hands away covered in blood.

i absolutely have to throw the classic "gruff mentor lady caretaker vs sunshine mentee whumpee" dynamic. and as a treat the same thing in reverse

MY BELOVED

gruff mentor: the definition of "i see me in you, and that is not a compliment"

sunshiney whumpee: optimism, a desire to fix everything, a need for praise. after a rough upbringing, she just wants someone to be proud of her, and mentor's opinion means the world to her.

here's how it would go: gruff mentor has barred whumpee from a mission because she's too sick, but it's time sensitive and they both know it. whumpee goes behind her back to help, then collapses after saving the day. she gets a lecture about the importance of self-preservation, but it ends with her shoulder being squeezed with a small, proud smile.

gruff mentor whumpee: hates the fussing, doesn't want anyone to coddle her, wants to handle everything on her own because she's been doing that all her life.

sunshiney mentee: desperately loyal to her and will do anything and everything she can to keep her mentor safe. she encourages whumpee to open up and let people in once in a while.

it'll go down like this: gruff mentor hasn't been sleeping for whatever reason--stress, nightmares, an amount of caffeine that shouldn't be spoken of in polite company--and it's showing. she's barely holding it together, but instead of resting, she just pushes herself harder to make up for the deficit. eventually, something small but triggering happens and she falls down a spiral of panic that only mentee can bring her out of.

For the ask game: A warrior prince whumpee and his sister, the princess he was injured fighting on behalf of, as caretaker?

(Based on a scene in one of my WIPs.)

yesss! okay maybe:

warrior prince: very protective, borderline TOO protective because she can handle herself. he's always doing this, leaping before he looks. can we get a "you shouldn't have done that." "a 'thank you' would suffice" in the house?

princess: used to her power allowing her to keep control over everything, but she's helpless when it comes to her brother's safety. he'll always do whatever he wants. she worries about him so much it hurts.

what would i do with this: she's sitting at the throne hearing her people out when one of them pulls a sword on her. her brother, who is standing guard, leaps in front of it, barely managing to deflect the blade with his own. there's a scuffle, but the evildoer gets the upper hand for a moment, wounding the brother. with renewed anger, he's able to chase him away, but he collapses as soon as he does. the guards run off to get the healer and she does whatever she can to keep him awake, which includes pissing him off so bad that he has no choice but to stay awake. she wants to accompany him to the healer's quarters, but she still has a duty to perform--her people. so she waits anxiously until she can finally get to him and see that he's okay <3

[kicks door down] whumpee is a royal who’s being run ragged and can’t admit they need a break, and caretaker is their head knight who’s witnessing their deterioration

ooh love it!

for the royal whumpee: i would focus mainly on a sense of duty to their people. life and death hinges upon the peace treaties they make and the war moves they execute and the laws they enforce. they really care about everyone and can't bear to let anyone down. i would also lean into not showing weakness because they can't afford to have anyone see their vulnerabilities.

for the caretaker knight: definitely loyalty. they've been serving the royal whumpee for many years and have massive respect for them, not to mention taking their duties to the people very seriously. still, they wish whumpee would relax every now and again.

the interaction might go something like this: whumpee has been working on putting together a peace treaty for months now and it's finally being signed by both leaders. in celebration, they throw a big banquet. stress catches up to whumpee in the form of illness, but they assume they're just tired--until they start to feel like they're going to pass out in the middle of the party. they quietly sneak off to tell the only person they can trust with that: knight caretaker, who is tasked with keeping them upright and functioning, if barely, until the banquet is over and they can actually get some rest.

New game! Send me a caretaker/whumpee scenario/relationship (ie character is knight refusing medical care for an injury and caretaker is trying to help them) and I’ll tell you what I would focus on for their character traits and how the interaction would go! :)

characters who do the dirty work to help their loved ones even if it means that they're horrified by the monstrous lengths to which they will go to ensure their safety/happiness/victory <3

I've never heard anyone talk about this absolutely golden emotional whump trope:

Whumpee is confiding in Caretaker, and has been barely holding back tears. Once they get what they want off their chest, Caretaker cracks some kind of bad joke to break the tension. Whumpee and Caretaker both start laughing, and that laughter was what Whumpee needed to break the last emotional barrier to let themself cry. So both of their laughter turns into crying and they cry and hug it out together.

GOD this is everything to me. as a person who absolutely copes through humor, i tend to write funny characters (the MC in my novel is literally a clown) and jokes in tense moments. this trope is PEAK

Whumpee’s who wake up from a coma Terrified. Whumpees who are confused and trying to pull their needles out while they gag on their breathing tube
