Quote
My mother used to say to me, ‘You can’t eat beauty, it doesn’t feed you.’ And these words played and bothered me, I didn’t really understand them until finally I realized that beauty was not a thing that I could acquire or consume. It was something that I just had to be. And what my mother meant by saying that you can’t eat beauty is that you can’t rely on beauty to sustain you. What actually sustains us, what is fundamentally beautiful is compassion for yourself and those around you. That kind of beauty inflames the heart and enchants the soul.

“Little is known about the origins of Nefertiti, but her legacy of beauty and power continue to intrigue scholars today. Her name is Egyptian and means “a beautiful woman has come.” Some evidence suggests that she hailed from the town Akhmim and is the daughter or niece of a high official named Ay. Other theories have suggested that she was born in a foreign country, possibly Syria. But until her remains and other details are discovered, these are just theories.
The exact date when Nefertiti married Amenhotep III’s son, the future pharaoh Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten, is unknown. It is believed she was 15 when they wed, which may have been before Akhenaten assumed the throne. They apparently ruled together from 1353 to 1336 B.C. and had six daughters, with speculation that they may have also had a son. Their daughter Ankhesenamun would eventually marry her half brother Tutankhamun, the future ruler of Egypt. Artwork from the day depicts the couple and their daughters in an unusually naturalistic and individualistic style, more so than from earlier eras. The king and his head queen seem to be inseparable in reliefs, often shown riding in chariots together and even kissing in public. It has been stated that the couple may have had a genuine romantic connection, a dynamic not generally seen in depictions of ancient pharaohs. Nefertiti and the pharaoh took an active role in establishing the Aten cult, a religious mythology which defined Aten, the sun, as the most important god and the only one worthy of worship in Egypt’s polytheistic canon. Amenhotep IV changed his name to Akhenaten (also seen as “Akenhaten” in some references) to honor the deity. It is believed that the king and queen were priests and that it was only through them that ordinary citizens could obtain access to Aten. Nefertiti changed her name to Neferneferuaten-Nefertiti, meaning “beautiful are the beauties of Aten, a beautiful woman has come,” as a show of her absolutism for the new religion.“ - biography.com

Chicago cop fatally shoots 19-year-old student and accidentally kills 55-year-old mother of five
The Chicago Police Department was under fire again Saturday, the day after Christmas, after cops responding to a domestic disturbance call fatally shot a 19-year-old college student Quintonio LeGrier and accidentally killed a 55-year-old mother of five Bettie jones.
Officers were summoned to the West Garfield Park home about 4:20 a.m. after Quintonio LeGrier, 19, started having one of his mental episodes.
Chicago police initially released few details on the shooting, saying only that an officer opened fire after they were “confronted by a combative subject.” But late Saturday, the department admitted that Jones was struck by a bullet meant for LeGrier. LeGrier’s father told reporters he had called the police and then Jones — warning her not to open her door until the officers showed up.
Before arriving at the scene on Saturday, the officers were told by a dispatcher that the domestic disturbance involved a teen wielding a baseball bat. dispatcher said it was “also coming in as a domestic. The 19-year-old son is banging on his bedroom door with a baseball bat.”
Once cops arrived, Antontio LeGrier said, he started heading downstairs when he heard the crack of gunfire.
By the time he made it to the ground floor, his son and Jones were lying motionless in the foyer.
The officer, LeGrier said, was yelling, “no, no, no.”
“In my opinion, he knew he had messed up. It was senseless,” Antonio LeGrier, 47, told the Chicago Sun-Times. “He knew he had shot, blindly, recklessly into the doorway and now two people are dead because of it.”
Jones’ daughter Latisha said she was jolted awake by the sound of gunfire — and then found her mother splayed out on the floor of their apartment, bleeding from the neck.
“She wasn’t saying anything,” Latisha Jones said. “I had to keep checking for a pulse.”
LeGrier’s mother, Janet Cooksey, who was not present at the time of the shooting, lashed out at the officers for taking the life of her only son. She said Quintonio was an engineering student at Northern Illinois University who was dealing with mental issues.
“Were thinking the police are going to service us, take him to the hospital,” Cooksey told the Chicago Tribune. “They took his life.”
The chicago police are currently working on the investigation.

Israel continues to detain a Palestinian woman for publishing literary material on social media
__ Dareen Tator, a Palestinian woman who shared her poems on social media, was arrested by Israeli forces on Sunday.
The 32-year-old was detained on charges of publishing material, including poetry, on Facebook, said The Palestinian Prisoners’ Association.
But Israeli police said she had been arrested due to her alleged role in clashes in Jerusalem and the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Tator’s father told the 48Arab newsite that Israeli
Inspired writing
Tator’s work is inspired by events unfolding in the region.
One of the multiple writings she posted online told of a trip she took to Dheishah refugee camp, outside Bethlehem near the end of September:
It was my fate to be in Bethlehem - the East in particular To walk in streets I do not know And ask the walls For the story On the billboard, I consult the picture That exposes the secret And the ghosts of hidden houses I was restless For two days, and no more Children pulled me in all directions This name…this quarter The voice and melody And the half demolished house The punctured roof and firewood Alight ink in my body…
