Flag: Indian Classical Music Fraternity.
As a practicing Indian classical musician myself, it felt befitting to design a flag for the Indian Classical Music Fraternity.
Indian Classical Music is an amalgamation of pitch(sruti), rhythm(tala) and several other music elements. The Flag designed below represents pitch and rhythm through shapes of two instruments which are symbolic to the same.
Tanpura: String instrument denoting pitch.
Mrudangam(circles in the middle): Percussion instrument denoting rhythm.
The color used for the shapes are Gold/Light brown. This shade symbolizes tradition and heritage and was chosen with an intent of bringing out the 'ancient value' of this art form.
The three colours in the background denote the 'Trinity composers' of Indian Classical Music. They represent the creation and invention of what Carnatic music is in the present Era. The colors are chosen to present a visual imagery of their depiction as seen below the flag.

SOUNDSCAPE :-
I step out of the house and lock the door hurriedly after the door bangs loudly.
I take a few steps to the lift and press the lift button and it pings in response. I’m wearing small heeled boots and I keep tapping the ground as I wait restlessly for the lift to open.
I hear the lift gushing upward with a ‘mechanical whir’ to the fourth floor and the door opens with a harsh rattle.
I step into the lift and the lift door closes with the same rattle. I press the 1 (ground) button and this time, there is a ping noise once the lift reaches the floor.
I step out and climb flight of stairs to open the door. My boots tap the ground hard and loudly as I climb the stairs fast.
I get out of the building and hear my neighbour’s dog barking.
Along with the dog’s barking, I hear shouting and yelling on the road.
My neighbour’s dog continues to bark and growl as people pass by on the street.
It’s a windy day and the winds are gushing through my ears making a wooosh.
To my right, I see the outdoor seating of an Italian restaurant.
Pigeons are pecking breadcrumbs on an empty restaurant table in front of me.
On different tables, I hear people chatting.
I take a few steps and hear clanking noises of few cutleries scraping the plates.
On a different table, the hostess puts back her note taking device with a mild rustle. She pops open a wine bottle and pours it in a glass which makes a gurgle noise. She softly places the glass on the table with a clank.
Meanwhile, a Doordash delivery person passes by hurriedly and vrooms past me on his bike.
A street entertainer at the end of the street is strumming his guitar strings as he sings an Italian song with a deep and loud voice that can be heard all the way till the other end of the street.
A man is sitting alone on one of the restaurant outdoor tables and I can hear him click-clacking on his computer as he speaks on the phone in a croaky voice.
The neighbour’s dog behind me after a small pause resumes barking.
A lady passes by on the street expressively talking on the phone in a shrill tone. She takes small steps and taps on the ground mildly as she walks past me.
This is all over-taken by the loud siren from a Mount Sinai ambulance that passes by on the street. The loud siren reverberates around the street for a few seconds and all the surrounding cars come to a hault with a “screech”.
The car honking sounds continue…..
The most Dominant sound in this space was the Siren.
