(hunter x reader) Hunter taking care of a sick reader!
contains: fluff
-it all started when you didn’t show up to your missions for the emperor’s coven one day
-Hunter (in his golden guard attire) was definitely worried
-like my guy was overthinking
-”Steve, have you seen Y/N? You haven’t? Should we check up on them?”
-bro was basically to tears when the day ended because of all his worrying
-Hunter flew by to your house after all his missions were done, carrying some of your favorite food in a plastic bag
-he showed up at your window (like all the time) and knocked a few times
-you responded with a raspy “come in,”
-when he entered, my Titan he was scared for your damn life
-you’re bundled in a blanket like some zombie, nose leaking and eyes bloodshot with mushrooms growing on the crown of your hair
-”Y/N! Are you okay??? Do you need to be in the infirmary???”
-after a few minutes you managed to convince him you were just sick with the common mold
-and even that doesn’t calm him down
-”Do you want me to get a healer? Or I can make some food? Wait, don’t stand, I’ll get your medicine for you!”
-Flapjack kept you company in your bedroom whilst Hunter was down in the kitchen, busy making some soup
-And oh man, that boy is a great cook
-Plus seeing him grinning ear to ear, proudly puffing up his chest when you complimented him on his soup could almost make you better right on the spot
-Since it was his day off tomorrow, he insisted staying the night to take care of you
-took your temperature every few hours and brought you water when you were thirsty
-Darius covered for him, said Hunter was out on a late-night mission
-If Hunter wasn’t clingy before, he was definitely clingy now
-bro was basically stuck to your side like glue
-”Do you need a refill of tea? I can make a pot of it for the two of us, what’s your favorite tea flavor? Are you hungry? I can order takeout for dinner if you’re not full yet. Here, hold Flapjack, he can help lower blood pressure. Wait, isn’t that for cats? Whatever, Flap’s basically a cat anyway,”
-to get him to sit down you had to suggest you two watch a movie
-He fell asleep within the first five minutes
-All in all, he’s a great nurse <3

Request calling
hello my lovely readers!! I'm shroom, the writer of this blog :D so I was wondering if any of you would like to request any headcanons, oneshots, or short fics? I'd appreciate all requests!! I mostly write hunter x readers, though I am open to other character x readers.
Here are my boundaries:
-I will not write smut. It just makes me really uncomfortable in general and I'm not experienced writing it at all -this is mainly an xreaders book, but I will occasionally write canon x canon if the suggestion is really good (raeda, lumity, etc) -I won't write for gus, king, or any characters aged younger than 14 or any canon aroace characters like Lilith (unless its platonic). I will also not write for belos
That's pretty much it. You can use my Asks or comment! Just a heads up I'm pretty new to Tumblr, so I may not be able to open your request right away, but I'll try to write them quick!!

(hunter toh x reader) headcannons on dating a human!wildwitch reader
(requested by the lovely B1u3Butt3rf1y_animecart00ngirl23 on Ao3! <3)
-this boy is head over heels for you oh my titan -but he lowkey tries to hide it -(he’s not fooling anyone) -So he’s heard of you, right? I mean, you’re the Owl Lady’s apprentice! You’ve helped her with so many of her schemes! -but he didn’t think you’d be a human -really, the second most powerful criminal on the Isles a magicless creature? Bogus! -no one really expected the golden guard and the teen criminal to start dating -Luz was flabbergasted when you told her -”you’re dating Hunter? Is he nice to you? Has he taken you out on a date?” -she really ships the two of you -Hunter was really confused when she sung the ‘hunter and Y/N sitting on a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!’ song for the first time -”Trees? We don’t sit on trees. That’s how you get the skincrawlers to steal your skin and pretend to be you. And what does that spell—LUZ!” -you got him to stop calling Luz ‘human’ when you started calling him ‘elf boy’ -He likes to rant about wild magic to you in the library -Hunter’s quite sleep deprived because of his coven duties, so you like to play (wild) bard songs to help him sleep -and for a criminal, you’re surprisingly really sweet! -you like to make him cookies and you gift him little things you find -his love language is definitely acts of service -yours is gift giving :D -When Eda found out, she was pretty overprotective -”Is he sweet with you? Does he try and convert you into his coven?” -And he did, but she doesn’t need to know that -Hunter’s thought process was pretty much that if you were in the emperor’s coven, you wouldn’t be in danger of getting in trouble by being a wild witch! -he dropped it after a while, though, and accepted your choice of being a wild witch -other than his…um, issues, he’s a great boyfriend

SOME_BODY_THAT_YOU_USED_TO_KNOW!!!! HI!!! :DDD
Hoodwinked - Chapter 2: Dealing with the devil
“Mother.”
She glanced up from her paperwork, “Yes, dearie?”
You stepped into the office, shutting the door behind you. “We need to talk.”
“Hm? About what?” she looked bored of this conversation. That was not going to stop you. She was going to listen. You would make her.
“What is up with Amity?” you growled. “She’s barely herself anymore.”
“Oh, is this about the coven tryouts?” her face splits into a small smile.
“Obviously.” you spat out. “Have you seen her? Have you seen her state?”
“You mean her hardworking nature? Of course.”
She was standing now, and even though she tried to look casual about it, you knew—she was warning you. You could almost hear the words in her mind.
Be very careful with your choice of words.
You were going to do just that.
“Hardworking?” you wanted to laugh, “That isn’t hardworking. No, she’s burnt out. Because of you and your stupid ideals of this family.”
“I only want what’s best for your sister, that’s all.” she cooed, walking slowly to you. She reminded you of a panther, sharpening her claws.
“I–”
“Ah. I know what this is about. You’re jealous, aren’t you?” she cupped her hand to her cheek, the other folded behind her back. “Come, dear, you’ve had your chance. Let her have this.”
Your shoulders slumped. You took a step back, “This has nothing to do with jealousy,” you hotly. “I-I just want Amity–”
“What? To miss her shot at becoming a coven official? Please.” Then, her eyes widened, just a little. “Don’t tell me that…that human put you to this, has she? I knew she was a bad influence.” she seethed.
“No,” you whispered, “Not her. I got this idea myself.”
Mother scowled. Then, she smiles.
She lets go of your cheek and saunters back to her desk. “I think I get what you want now, (reader).”
“I want Amity’s freedom.”
“Freedom?” she hangs her head back, laughing, “This is not a jailhouse, dear. She is free to do what she likes.”
“Then…a deal.” you raise your hand, as if waiting for a handshake. “Whatever you want. It’s yours. In exchange for Amity’s freedom.”
“You? What would you have that I want?” she smiles, the condescending tone evident.
“Anything.” you say in a quiet voice.
She knew what you meant. “You know,” she begins slowly, “That we cannot just let Amity not join. We already signed her up for the tryouts.”
“Your point?” impatience gripped your tone. Mother’s gaze hardened.
“Always skipping to the point, are you?” if you weren't delusional, you thought you heard a ghost of amusement in her words.
“Take her place. Join the coven, ace the tryouts? Amity can do whatever she wants.”
Your hand moves away slightly as she moves hers towards it. They curl up before you take her hand, and shake it.
“Deal.”

Hoodwinked - Chapter 5: A Golden Haired Tutor
The first thing you see in the morning? Amity’s face, twisted with worried concern.
You hold back a scream as you shoved your sister off of you.
“You don’t have to do this for me, (reader)!” she says desperately, “I can handle the stress, I promise–”
“Wha–? Not even a good morning?” you shook your head, feigning disappointment. “Amity, Amity. I expected better of you.”
Her ears flush light pink with embarrassment. Your attempt to lighten the mood does nearly nothing, though, as she goes right back to the point.
“Whatever! Just…call off the deal, okay?”
“Sorry, no can do, sister. And can we save the talk? I need to visit the library today.”
Her eyebrow quirked. “Library? But it’s saturday.”
You chuckled, the sound coming more of a nervous laugh. “I need to study for a major test, that’s all.”
Lies. You were really going to begin studying on Abominations, but Amity didn’t need to know that. You bet you told her, she’d get even more stressed.
“Huh. Okay.” The suspicion doesn’t leave her voice, however. “Um, happy studying, I guess.”
She hops off your bed and leaves your room. You breathe a sigh of relief as she shuts the door behind her.
Getting ready wasn’t too hard, because you really weren’t going to dazzle today. Just a simple blue sweater and some jeans. You also decided to put on a silver necklace because just because you were going simple didn’t mean you weren’t allowed to look good! You wondered if your mother was awake. Perhaps it would be better to pick up some breakfast at a cafe instead.
•─────⋅
The Golden Guard had to study. He had been a little behind on his assignments. Nothing to worry about, though! He just needed to, uh, research wild magic. For the coven.
Okay, fine. This wasn’t really part of his coven duties. But still, if he could just find out what exactly Belos’s curse was….
One problem: the coven library was shut down due to a rain leak. The acidity of the boiling rain had melted the pages of each book.
The closest un-boiled library was the Bonesburough one. It wasn’t ideal, but it would work. For now.
Anyways, he would be going as Hunter. In any criminal’s eyes, he was only a scrawny blonde sixteen year old, visiting the library to study for school. It would be a foolproof disguise.
•─────⋅
The Bonesburough library—where you spent most of your freetime. It seemed like you were gonna spend all of it now, as the deal would probably require you to study. All the time. It wasn’t too bad, though! Books are fun.
You had always liked the library, with its big clock tower and towering shelves and grumpy, definitely sleep deprived librarians. It was a great escape.
Anyways, you grabbed three volumes (that you found in the fourth grade section): Abominations 101, Abominations 4 Beginners, and Darius Deammone: A Biography.
Okay, so the last book wasn’t necessary. What of it? Head Witch Darius’s life was pretty interesting, and re-reading it for the thirtieth time wouldn’t hurt, right?
You cracked open the first book, and conjured a pen and notebook. You cracked it open.
Hm, you definitely needed a tutor. Who, though?
You glanced around, hoping to spot a perfect target. I mean, tutor. The building was a little empty, and you didn’t blame the people for not giving it a visit at seven-thirty AM on a Saturday.
Still, it didn't help your case. You wished you had asked Amity or Jerbo to come with you. They would have taught you.
Then, you remembered. You’re an oraclancy user! You could just summon a neutral ghost to help you, one who was an abomination user in their past life.
Albert was summoned with a flick of a finger. “Hey!” he yelled.
“Shh, we’re in a library! I need you to help me with something, got it?” you said, your voice hushed. He raised an eyebrow and floated to the table, hovering a few inches off the wood.
“What?” he said. “I was winning a game of Hexes Hold’em in that amulet of yours, you know.”
You rolled your eyes. Albert was being far from cooperative right now, but what could you do? How was your only available tutor.
“Fine, I’ll let you haunt someone later. But for now, I need help with abominations.”
“Why?”
“Long story, I replaced Amity, okay? You know how she was the one Mother pushed all her ideals and stuff on? Well, that’s me now.”
He shrugged. “Cool. What do you need help with?”
And as you asked questions and received very vague, irritable questions, neither of you did not notice the blonde boy with ridiculously large eyebags peeking from one of the shelves, intrigued.
•─────⋅
Hunter continued to stare at the two figures, curious. The third Blight of the family was replacing the fourth? That was something he betted worthy enough the people at taverns would discuss/ gossip about.
He never was quite acquainted with the rich of the Isles, but this one felt…familiar. Maybe it was the way they argued with the floating, purple ghost, or maybe he had seen them somewhere, but there was something odd about (reader) Blight.
He had swapped glances with them sometimes, at parties and balls sponsored by his coven. They were quick and didn’t mean much, just a bored kid looking at another. He found their gaze intimidating, sharp (e/c) eyes locked with magenta.
They were acquainted with the privileged, the rich and snotty. Were they snotty too? He didn’t know. He never even spoke a word to them.
It had never struck him that the people he saw at parties were real witches. Essentially, they were part of the background, and held no interest.
But this particular Blight? They were real. Very real.
“You just ask very boring questions!”
“You don’t even give me a proper answer!”
“Hmph,” the ghost crossed his arms together and refused to look at his conjuror, like a child throwing a tantrum. “I’m not gonna help you. You’re being very rude, thank you very much.”
Blight's eyes widened, “Wait no, I don’t understand this topic!”
The ghost cracked open one eye, and it stared right at Hunter. Quickly and with a squeak he dove back to the bookshelves.
“You’re not being very sneaky, kid.” the ghost huffed. “We can still see your hair, you know.”
Dang it.
•─────
You and Albert stare at the ashy blonde cowlick for a few seconds. You sigh, the chair making a scraping sound against the floor as you stand up and walk to the boy.
He has his face turned to you, a sheepish grin showing off his tooth gap.
“What are you doing, stalker?” you demand. In a flash the boy is on his feet, “I am not a stalker!”
You cross your arms and scoff. “Really? What were you doing, then?”
“I—um,” his magenta eyes flick to the stack of books you had collected behind you. He points to them, “I needed a book you got!” he says hastily.
You raised an eyebrow. “Huh. What book?”
“The, uh, abomination coven head’s autobiography.”
The book flies to his hands in a blaze of purple. He grips the cover tightly, staring down at it.
“Thanks,” he mutters.
When he stays in his position, unmoving, you ask, “So, you like abominations?”
He glances up in surprise when you talk. “Yeah.”
“Great! Are you a master at it?”
He shrugged, still holding the book close to his chest. “I wouldn’t say master, but I guess you could say I enjoy doing it.”
You snorted. His face seemed to twist in half-recognition until you said, “That’s practically impossible. Abominations? Enjoyment? Won’t hear that in the same sentence often.”
He shrugged. “Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. It’s a little messy, but it's practical. You know, abominations actually played a huge part in the Demon Revolution in 1390? Many thought the goo would melt in the battlefields, but it was a really big component in order to win the civil war!” you grinned at his mini-rant.
The boy seemed to have suddenly become self-conscious, because he coughed and said quietly, “Not that that’s important, or anything.”
“No, no! It’s interesting,” you gleamed. He seemed to be surprised. “R-really?” he sputtered.
You nodded, “History always fascinated me. Hey, do you think you could tutor me on abominations? My tutor isn’t being–” you glanced back to Albert, or where he would be. You see nothing. “--too helpful.”
His mouth gaped open. He had a certain look in his eyes, as if he was waiting for an opportunity like this to come across all his life.
“You want to study with me?”
You nodded happily. “Look, I’ll pay you in snails. Or maybe a free meal? I know some really good restaurants around here–”
“No, uh,” he finally looks you in the eye, and you wonder if you had ever made a kid so happy than he is now, “That’s fine. You don’t need to pay.”
Huh. Oddly nice.
“So, what’s your name, blondie?”
He hesitated before saying, “..Hunter.”
“I’m (reader) Blight!” you grin at him. Playfully, you bend the crook of your arm for him and the other positioned at your back, as if inviting him for a dance. With a cheesy wink you say, “Well, shall we, Hunter?”
He rolls his eyes, striding past you with a snicker.
This Hunter guy is so knowledgeable! Boy, he’s smart. You figure he’s probably a prodigy in whatever school he’s in.
“The multiple uses of abomination goo is as follows—-why’re you staring at me like that?” He stops midway, staring at you accusingly.
“I—what? Pfft, I wasn’t staring at you!” Your cheeks burn with embarrassment.
“Uh-huh.” He raised his thick black eyebrows at you before clearing his throat. “Eyes on the page, Blight. Anyhow, the first use is abomination summoning, obviously..”
You zoned out as Hunter explained some subject your mind definitely wasn’t on.
Your eyes darted from the yellowed pages to Hunter’s face. It was laced with concentration as he turned the subject into a ramble about how abomination goo was so annoying to take off and how it left a big splotchy stain. His hooked nose crinkled in distaste, and you presumed he was imagining the smell of abomination goo. You didn’t blame him—abomination goo always smelled horrible.
You chuckled, causing him to pause. “You really have a grudge against abominations, huh?”
“Obviously!” He huffed, “The goo is repulsive. But, well, I can’t deny its usefulness…do you know what time it is?”
You glanced at the library clock above him, Hunter’s golden curls obscuring your view a little. “Um, I think eleven twenty?”
“WHAT?” he yelled. “Oh no, oh no no no…I’m late!” He burst to his feet, looking around frantically.
“Late for what?” You asked him. “Late for something,” he replied, “I’ve really got to go…you’ll be okay, right?”
You laughed. That ripple of distant recognition from Hunter’s face showed up again. “Don’t worry about me. I’ve got this in the bag!” You looked back down at the page, which had been sticky-note bombed by Hunter. “But, er, I may need to find an demonstrator soon, putting theory into practice and all that. Anyway, see you!”
As his blonde cowlick disappeared from sight, you sighed. You glance to the page, with bright yellow sticky notes.
Hunter’s handwriting was messy, hardly legible. The amount of loops in the ‘y’s and ‘j’s made it quite difficult to understand what was going on. But you didn’t really care, either, that was the funny part.
Why didn’t you care that you spent four hours with a new friend, when you didn’t even learn anything at all? Could you even call Hunter a friend? You’d probably never see him again.
You found yourself hoping he’d be back tomorrow.
•─────⋅
Hunter didn’t want to leave. Not yet. Weirdly, he liked spending time with the Blight, odd questions and quips and all. They were kinda fun hanging around. Everything about them was oddly uncanny—the snorts when he said something funny, the chuckling, the attitude…who did they remind him of? He couldn’t quite tell.
But he had a mission he was very late for, as the golden guard, so unfortunately he couldn’t solve the mystery yet. That didn’t stop him from borrowing a few advanced abomination volumes, and made a silent note to borrow a trainee’s wand from the coven later. He might not come across with the Blight again, but it didn’t hurt to be prepared. Plus, he may have been stretching the truth about him knowing how to conjure an abomination to impress them.

Hoodwinked - chapter 4: The Ghoul Conjuror
A soft knock at your door. Emira’s voice comes muffled. “(reader)? You up?”
No response.
A new voice pipes up—Ed’s. “Come on, we saved you your favorite food!”
Seconds of silence pass.
“We'll be here if you need anything.” Emira says quietly. The shadows of the footsteps from under your door recede.
You roll over to the side of the window, feeling the guilt creep up for ignoring your siblings.
You didn’t want them to worry. You knew Amity told them what she had heard in the living room.
Your thoughts drift back to the talk you and your mother had a few hours ago.
The rules. They were strict. Did Amity have to follow them?
Burning hatred bubbled in your stomach as you thought of your mother. You hated her. Why did she want Amity to do this so badly? And why did Amity follow these rules, presumably all her life?
You felt stupid not being able to see what Amity had been going through until Luz opened your eyes. You thought she wanted this, that she wanted to join the coven. You cheered her on, always, when she entered competitions, programs, anything.
You regretted having agreed to the deal, but at the same time you didn’t. Amity deserved to have some fun in her life. She deserved to spend time with her friends freely, without the weight of her future hanging around her head all the time.
You glanced at the window. The moon had painted the room silver, and your silk curtains danced in the breeze. The scent of flowers fills your lungs.
You grunt, standing up to close the window. Your legs felt brittle and wobbly, like it couldn’t support your body, but you walked anyway.
Your bedroom windows overlooked the manor’s gardens. One time, a long time ago, a seven year old Amity brought a little girl with crooked glasses and dark navy hair over to the house. They played out in the gardens until the sun had fallen off the horizon, and until Mother told Amity to bring the girl home.
You never saw her again.
You sigh at the sight of the manor, painted in the moonlight. Primroses and violets swung side to side, each colored a deep purple.
Your eyes trail from the inside of the manor to the outside.
Bonesburough was strangely pretty. Yes, there was a seller who smuggled illegal potions now and again in the corners of it, and crime littered the streets endlessly, but you felt fond of the quaint town all the same. It was where you grew up after all.
Actually, maybe that’s a lie. You never really had a chance to explore Bonesburough much, being trapped in the manor and all. Abomination bodyguards followed you wherever you did go, and that sucked the fun out of everything after a while. You never were truly free from your parents.
The feeling of freedom—-being able to wander freely around the markets, the smell of goods and fruit lingering in the air. Being able to explore all the Isles had to offer.
The feeling was short-lived as you remembered—you would probably never get to be free in years, because of that deal you made.
Then, you look into your room. An old timey witch’s hat, decorated with glittering stars, colored plum caught your eye. It was a gift from the twins.
The starcut concealment stone in the middle shined in the dark. Moonstone.
It was all a blur. You don’t remember grabbing the hat and a satchel of belongings. You don’t remember coaxing your snake palisman out of her tank.
What you do remember is jumping out of the window, grinning from ear to ear. The sound of wind filled your ears as your heart pounded, euphoric. You remembered the taste of sweet, sweet freedom as you flew away, up and up, farther from the manor.
•─────⋅
You weren’t running away. Not permanently. You just needed to clear your head, you know? And a midnight flight around Bonesburough was a perfect way to do that.
From your fingers to your feet, you felt a strange tingling sensation. Excitement.
You dipped down, closer to the ground, giddy with your newfound independence.
You passed the school, windows dark. You passed a few houses, you flew through the clouds. The stars were prettier and seemed to grow brighter up close instead of gazing at them from your window.
You could smell the scent of spices and metal as you neared the Bonesburough night market. You landed behind a building, letting Pandora curl herself around your arm. You peeked from the building and gazed at the night market.
It was different during the day. Everything, from the shady looking individuals and the stalls selling odd trinkets, screamed illegal. The warm glow of the lanterns lit up your face.
You ducked down and stared at the hat. “You better work.” you warned it. And then, you tapped the starcut moonstone.
In a flash of white, you feel the cotton of your pajamas disappear, then silk drapes itself on your shoulders.
When the blinding light faded, you smiled as you marveled at your new outfit. Now instead of your pajamas you wore a matching plum cloak with silver stars and crescent moons drawn on the edges. A moonstone clasp held your cloak together.
“Wow, Ed and Em didn’t skimp on the details here!” you said happily, turning around to see the full effect of your outfit. Your hat had see-through silk draping itself around the edges of the hat, shielding your face away like a veil. It gave you a regal, mysterious look to onlookers while also enchanted to be a shield for your face if ever you were attacked because hey, the night market was dangerous. It was run by criminals, after all.
“Hey, you!” a deep voice said loudly. You turned to the alleyway and saw a man who was clearly drinking pointing at you.
“You look like–” he hiccuped, “--a star.” Then, he slumped down to the floor. You didn’t realize you were holding your breath until he snored noisily.
Okay. That was weird. But it's Bonesburough! Everything’s a little weird, right?
That didn’t stop you from deserting your hiding place to explore the market.
“Ooh, can I have that?” You asked a vendor. You pointed to a dagger. The grip was silver with a huge pearl embedded in it.
The vendor eyed you. “How are you gonna pay for that, huh?”
You plopped the snails, about a hundred, in front of the man. He gaped at you.
A grin grew from his lips. “Take it!” he levitated it to you, taking the snails and counting it greedily. You grinned, pocketing the dagger. You would probably have no use for it, but it matched your outfit, so you had to buy it. Duh.
All of a sudden, shrill laughter rippled through the crowd. You turned to see who caused the sound.
“Go kiss the Emperor’s ass and leave us alone!” came a voice, gruff and triumphant.
To your surprise, two masked witches shot out of the alleyway that drunk guy was just from, laughing at who you assumed to be a poor scout—
A blur of gold blinded you temporarily, “Get—” he huffed, “--Back here!”
“Try us, golden guard!” one of the men threw what seemed to be a smoke bomb on the ground and continued to run.
“Golden–?” you mumble to yourself before snapping your head to the vendor, who was still counting the snails you had given him. “Um, sir?”
“What?” he asks, still staring at the money with glee.
“What’s happening?” you pointed to the smokey area.
“The golden guard’s catching some criminals, mx.” he replies, finally prying his eyes away from the money bag to look at the smoke. “Don’t worry ‘bout him. He’s perfectly capable, yeah?”
The old excitement kindled back to life. You just witnessed a criminal chase! How cool is that?
“So you think he doesn’t need any help?” you asked.
He shrugs. “Probably not. I mean, the mist may blind him a lil, and that thick gold mask ain’t doin’ him any favors.” he chuckled, turning to you. “Isn’t that right, witch—” he gaze turns confused as he stares at the place where you were, now deserted. “--let?”
You weren’t quite thinking when you ran into the mist. You only thought—help the golden guard. Get an award. Make Mother proud of you.
Because if Mother was proud of you, then she’d let you AND Amity off the hook!
You stopped to catch your breath. The mist smelled horrible. “Criminals? Mr. golden guard?”
Pandora curled away from your hand and turned into a staff. You pointed it to nothing.
A sudden shadow moved from behind you. You turned around.
“Show yourselves immediately!” you surprised yourself with the tone of your voice. You sounded almost….assertive? Newfound confidence rushed into you.
“Who do you think this is, Ernie?” someone scoffed through the shadows. You pointed your staff at the source of the sound.
“Probably a lost witch.” the other replied, “Hey, I’d get lost if I were ya, little witchlet. Wouldn’t want to be in trouble, would ya?”
“What? I said show yourself!” You demanded the shadows.
At your word, the two burly masked witches stepped away from the mist, with something in between them as they approached.
You squinted at the figure—-was it a new accomplice, another criminal you had to fight in order to aid the—-
Your eyes widened. As the light spell the criminal cast glowed onto the person’s mask, you realized who it was.
The golden guard looked unconscious, the way his head lolled to the side. The two witches dropped him and one put a leg on his back. He didn’t get up.
You gulped and tried not to look at the pitying sight in front of you.
“Let him go! Or—or–” the criminals scoffed at your words. The confidence drained from your face.
“Do what? You look what, thirteen? What’re you gonna do?” mocked one of them as he brandished a knife, ragged at the edges.
“For your information, I’m sixteen years old!” you snapped, and why did you just reveal your age to the criminals, now they know you for sure can’t beat them–
Your eyes trail from their faces to the golden guard, limp and unmoving.
A small voice squeaked in the back of your head that, yeah, maybe he’s right. What could you do to two graduated, adult witches? Maybe you’ll just get yourself beat up and thrown into a dungeon, and they’ll contact your parents for a ransom.
But you’re all the Golden Guard has right now.
And even if he didn’t get to see you kick ass, at least you’ll get to save his butt from certain peril.
“Looks like witchling has cold feet,” one said, condescending, “Hey it’s okay, why don’t you crawl back to where you came from and never talk about this agai—”
His sentence ended abruptly as mauve flames ate up at his cloak. You grinned, your finger still smoking from the spell.
The sword guy glares at you, and lunges. He swings his sword, left to right, right to left.
You jumped out of the way before drawing another spell circle.
A ghoul burst from your bright pink necklace. It glowed with fury, eyes flashing as it dove to the swordsman.
It phased through his body before turning solid again, holding his arms together. He flailed and kicked around. He stayed firm.
A shadow overcame you. You glance up to see the man, his cloak on the floor. His arms grabbed your body, and Pandora was knocked away from your hands.
“Let–” you tried to free your hand to conjure a circle, “--me go!”
“Not a chance.” he growled. “You shouldn’t have involved yourself here, kid.”
You blew a raspberry at the criminal.
A flash of yellow, and you were dazed.
You feel yourself be ripped away from the man’s grip, face planting in the dirt.
You glance to the golden guard’s body—
Wait. Where’d he go?
Thoughts began to arise, what if he got lost in the battle? What if you accidentally hit him whilst fighting the criminals? What if the criminals already–
“DUCK!”
It didn’t take you long to listen, scrambling to the ground. You hear a body smack across the pavement.
You can taste the metallic flavor of blood in your mouth. You swallowed.
Slowly, after a few seconds of silence, you stand. You notice the two criminals were unconscious, propped up against a wall.
“You okay?”
You yelp, turning to the sound before tripping. Your back lands on the pavement, and you groan.
“That’s going to ache in the morning, won’t it?” you mumbled to yourself.
A gold mask—his gold mask–obscures your vision. “Uh, are you alright?”
You scramble to your feet. “Fine, I’m fine!” you said quickly.
The golden guard tilts his head a little. You realize he has Pandora’s staff in his gloved hand.
He notices your staring, and practically shoves it in your hands. “I believe this is yours.”
“Yeah.” you croak out, gripping the staff tightly.
Awkward silence. You notice a glint of red behind the golden guard.
You rush over to it. It’s his staff, the red gem still glowing. He must have been disarmed in battle.
“And I believe this is yours,” you said, giving him the staff.
“It is.” He turns to the unconscious criminals and with a wave of his staff, they are both bound in ropes.
Silence again. You feel yourself burning from embarrassment from under your cloak.
“I guess I’ll take them to the conformitorium.”
“I guess you will.”
He clears his throat after another second of quiet, then turns to you. The traces of casualty from your conversation disappears. “Who are you?”
You blinked. Should you tell him?
“I’m someone.” you decided.
“No, I mean your name.”
“Uhhh, what’s your name?” you asked him like an accusation.
“Classified.” he says. You feel the sides of your mouth twitch.
“What an odd name.”
“Wha–nO! I-I meant, that information is classified.” he says testily, and you laugh. You notice he perks up at the sound.
This was weird. The golden guard was supposed to be an awe-inspiring coven official, not some awkward dude with voice cracks!
Somehow, you liked this version better.
“Y’know what–” you thought for a second, “You can call me the Ghoul Conjurer.”
“Sounds like a superhero name,” he observed.
“ ‘the golden guard’ sounds like a superhero name,” you countered, “Even more than Ghoul Conjurer. Yours both have g’s at the start!”
He shrugs, “Fair enough.”
Your eyes turn to the sky. It's a color of purple and yellow now, faint stars shining. It would be dawn soon.
“I, uh, have to go,” you said suddenly, stepping away, “Y’know, I’ve got superhero stuff to do–”
“Wait!” he says, grabbing your wrist. You raise an eyebrow at the action.
“I’ll…see you in coven tryouts, right?”
You hesitate. Then you nodded slowly. “Yeah.”
His body relaxed at that. “Good. You’re a good fighter, you know.”
You flush at the compliment. “...thanks. You’re not too bad yourself, Mr. Golden Guard.”
He chuckles at the quip. Then, he bows jokingly, “Then, until then, see you around. Ghoul Conjurer.”
You sit on your staff, giving him a spry wave of your hand. “I’ll see you around, Golden Guard.”
And with that, you zoom away.
•─────⋅
The Golden Guard felt ecstatic on his way back to the castle.
Ecstatic, but confused. Really confused.
Who really was the witch in the starry cloak? Why did they save him? Why were they so good at doing magic?
“Whatever,” he huffed to himself. “At least they’ll be in coven tryouts in two months’ time.”
He hated to admit it, but he…admired this powerful stranger. He admired the way they stood up to those criminals. He admired how they beat up the said criminals’ asses. He admired how they weren’t really intimidated by the golden helmet he wore. The status meant nothing to them. You barely got that in the Emperor’s coven, where the bird-masked scouts would bow whenever you walked past.
He looked up, and realized he was already close to the castle. The Golden Guard sighed.

Hoodwinked - chapter 3: The rules
The abomination shoved you in the living room, making you bump the other one at your side.
You mutter threats at the gooey golems before noticing someone sitting on the sofa, legs crossed.
Her hair was in its normal, tight bun, and a smirk was laced on her lips. She held a cup of tea in her hand, stirring it with the other.
“How was school?” she asks coolly.
You narrowed your eyes until they were slits. Your arms were crossed.
Mother placed her cup down. “Now, don’t look at me like that, (reader).”
“You could’ve made the abominations nicer.” you said quietly. Mother gave the two abominations a mere glance before looking at you again. “Take a seat.”
It was less a suggestion, more of an order. You obliged. A frail, porcelain teacup flew to your hands, the tea inside warming your palms.
“You remember our talk yesterday, correct?” she said casually, keeping her cold blue eyes fixed on your figure. You nodded silently.
“And you agreed, yes?”
“Yes! What do you want?” you said through your teeth. She was making it very difficult to be civil.
“I only want a chat with my child, that’s all.” she says. The look on her face says otherwise.
You raise an eyebrow. She sighs.
“Fine. I want to discuss our deal regarding you replacing our Mittens.”
“(reader)’s replacing me?” you turned quickly, eyes locking with gold.
Amity carried her backpack with one hand, gaping from you to your mother.
“With what?” She hung her backpack on a coat stand and walked to the two of you.
She looked at you. You looked to the inside of your cup.
Odalia smiled at your sister, sickenly sweet. “No need to worry, dear. (reader)’s only taking up the opportunity they turned down all those years ago.”
“Opportunity? (Reader), what is she talking about?” Amity asks sharply. You don’t respond for a few seconds.
“The coven’s youth program, that’s all.”
The crease in between her eyebrows deepened. “But–”
Mother puts up a finger, “Up-up. You were not invited into this conversation, Amity. Now, run along.”
“I–”
“Go upstairs, Amity.”
The tone of your voice surprised the mint-haired witch. It was quiet. Defeated.
And this time, she listens. She grabs her bag and hurriedly walks out. The walk turns into a sprint.
Mother turns back to you, the frown disappearing. “Now, (reader), before we begin, I just want to say how proud I am that you are finally going to take the course.” you don’t meet her eyes. What would you see? Pride? Relief?
“Thanks.” you murmur. You put the cup to your lips and drink. The tea tastes cold and bitter.
“You know, you remind me of your father when he was younger.” her voice holds no unkindness, and you dare to look back up.
She is smiling. “He was quite stubborn, same as you. And he held potential. A great deal of it. He only needed me to help him use his potential.”
“Cut to the chase already.” you sighed. You didn’t want any beating around the bush. “What do you need?”
She says nothing for a while, the silence feeling suffocating. Then, she begins.
“I want you to agree to some of these rules of our deal.” she glances down to stir her tea. “That’s all.”
“Fine,” you spat, “Go.”
“Firstly,” she says, and this time she looks right up at you, “You will take the youth program.”
“I know.”
“You will give your all into the youth program. You’ll impress the judges.”
“I will.” when she says nothing for a while, you raise your eyebrows. “Is that it?”
“Oh, no, dear.” the sly smile returns from her face. “Amity didn’t only have to join youth programs sponsored by the coven she was going to join, you know.”
Your stomach sank. That wasn’t it?
You should have expected that.
The look on your face was a signal for Mother to continue. “Some house rules. First, you’ll stop dyeing your hair that awful color.”
Your hands immediately drop the cup, shards of porcelain breaking into pieces as the tea seeps into the carpet. You touch your hair, colored (h/c), and say, “What’s wrong with it?”
“You’re a Blight, dearie.” your mother said simply. “And you must wear your natural hair color proudly, like your other siblings.”
“But Amity’s natural hair color is brown!” you protested.
“She had to make a few sacrifices, so what?” she shrugged. “And you must do it too, if you want to take her place.”
Your fingers go limp. That was right. They lower slowly to your lap.
“Next?”
“As Hexside is now allowing multiple tracks, you will take Abominations by next week.” Mother stirred into her tea. The spoon clashes with the cup, filling the quiet.
Upon your expression she adds, “Your main track will be Oracle, don’t you worry. The Abominations will only be because you must help your father and I at Blight Industries.”
Help? More late nights spent in silence with your parents as you slave away, creating their next big weapon? You could picture yourself now, cleaning up the workshop with a miserable frown, eyebags deep in your eyes.
Your mother had a triumphant gleam in her eyes now. Before you could add a comment, she butts in. “You will also take Amity’s place in the coven tryouts, two months from now. The youth program and the coven tryouts usually have the same recurring judges, so if you blow them away next month, I am sure they’ll let you in the coven by eight months from now!”
That did it. Your panicked breaths come quicker, and before you knew it your vision turned blurry. You gripped the skirt of your uniform tightly.
“Don’t be like that, (reader).” your mother said sharply. “This is the way it has to be now.”
She stood, conjuring a bright purple spell circle. Her teacup, as well as your shattered one, disappeared in a clap of light.
You feel her hand squeeze on your shoulder briefly before she walks away.

“Deal.”

Hoodwinked - chapter 1: Blight Meeting
“Hah!” Edric laughed as you cheekily put down a plus four card directed towards Emira. His grin fades as Emira grins before putting down another plus four.
“I won’t do it! I will never win in uno!”
“Do it or Batric sleeps outside tonight.”
The midnight eyed bat squeaks before flapping into Edric’s emerald hair, burying himself amidst the green.
Before your brother could respond, the door slams open, to reveal Amity, carrying a huge stack of books.
“Sorry guys, am I late?” she asked anxiously, and the books floated to the ground, piling up neatly. Now without the books hiding her face, you could see her mint-green hair disheveled and dark eyebags gracing her face.
“Titan, what happened to you?” gasped Edric, pointing at her face. “You look like a zombie!”
“Do you need a face mask, Mittens?” you ask, laughing a little as you throw her a selection of face masks. “Join the club.”
Amity’s eyes shift from your face to Emira’s to Edric’s, each one adorning a different face mask. She sighs, yet a grin on her face.
Amity unties her half-ponytail and plops herself on the ground, surveying the game you were playing. “Who’s winning?”
Emira raises her hand.
“What’s all the books about, Mittens?” you ask, grabbing the top book.
“Oh, you know, abomination books. Complex Abominations, Ten Ways to Summon, Abominations: Rise. I’m studying for Emperor Coven tryouts—they’re two months away only!” she stresses, “And I’m already old enough to try out.”
“Ew, a coven?” you feign a disgusted look. “That’s for losers.”
Amity raises an eyebrow. “What coven are you joining, then?”
“None,” you shrug, “I’ll be a Wild Witch!”
Emira snorted, placing down a card. “As if Mom’ll let that happen.”
“She won’t know! Edric will make me a fake sigil, won’t you?”
Your brother grins at you, pulling a thumbs up, “Hell yeah!”
As Emira places the golden face mask on Amity, you take it upon yourself to skim through the pages.
“Woah, Mittens, this is really complex shit!” you exclaim, showing Ed and Em the equations for….the seven properties of Abomination Goo?
“Are you even planning to sleep tonight?” Ed jokes, ”Come on, relax! You’ve got two months still.”
“Two months only.” She corrects him, prying the book from your fingers and placing it back on the pile. “And no, I’m spending the night in the library, reading up on equations.” she compiled the books, summoned a small abomination, and laid them on it. “Just wanted to check up on you. Good night!”
And with that, she ran out of the room.
You three exchanged anxious glances. Em was the first to break the silence. “I’m worried for Amity, honestly.”
You nod, “She’s been overworking herself a lot lately. These studies have been taking a great toll on her.”
Edric’s smile drops, and Batric hops off of his head. “I know. I’ve tried lightening her up, trying to convince Mother to let her relax. Nothing works.” he shook his head and sat up, Batric in his hands. “Nothing works.”
Emira collects the uno cards and begins to shuffle them. “It’s all their fault. Mother and Father’s. They’ve implanted this idea that she needs to work all the time and achieve something great, and that she's useless without. It’s dumb.”
You sat, quiet, while you considered these words. It was true, no doubt.
The rest of the night was spent in silence.
-
You open your eyes and the early morning light spills across your face. You yawn, still slightly tired from the all-nighters you pulled with Ed and Em.
You pull Em's arm away from you and glance around.
You notice a lack of your younger sister, and your suspicions rise again. You pull yourself out of the covers and sneak out the room.
The hall is quiet, save for your muffled footsteps against the carpet. You notice Bernard, an abomination maid, cleaning the flower vases with a duster.
Alright, here’s the problem: Bernard’s got a program on his face that notifies Mother when you walk by him. And Mother hates it when you try to drag Amity away from her studies.
And that’s what you’re about to do.
Okay, use your super-sleuth skillz-with-a-z, (Reader)! Your eyes turn into little (e/c) slits as you analyze the situation before you.
You can’t crawl through the vents as they’re way too small, so that’s off the list, and you can’t kill the abomination, because that’ll notify both Mother AND Dad, causing you to have to sit through a thirty-minute earful from the both of them.
Can you tell you’ve tried this before? Multiple times. Each one ending in a different disaster.
There is one solution, though. It might get you caught, but who cares?!
You ready a fire spell, aiming it at a light opposite of the place where you’ve got to go. The flames burn a bright violet as you release it, and the fire spell goes up and up—
Landing on the light, it broke. You grin in triumph as Bernard perks up and goes to investigate the broken light.
Good thing you’ve got long legs, because you’re at the end of that hallway in three seconds flat, and then you’re at the library’s door!
Distractions. That’s the only thing you seem to be good at, but it’s really the only thing you have to be good at, anyways!
You twist the handle, and your face is promptly slapped with the smell of coffee and old books.
You pull a face as you glanced around the library. You stepped in, and once you shut the door you called out, “amity? Amityyy?”
Amity’s white cat palismen, Ghost, appeared outta nowhere and purred at you. You grin down as you picked up the cat.
“I know you’re here you know. Ghost ratted you out.”
A groan.
You grinned, following the sound. You navigated through stacks of books covered in purple slime, coffee stains, until you found your sister.
“What’s up, mittens?” You ask cheerfully to the girl with deep eye bags. Your eyes widen as you notice her tired frown. Woah, are you okay?”
She nodded, although a little delayed.
“So…studying about abominations, have you?”
She nods again, and then turns her attention back to the book cracked open in front of her.
“Have you taken a break?” You asked her lightly. She shakes her head no.
“Well, come on then.” You tug at your sister’s arm, but she is stubborn to stay on the chair.
“Can’t. Coven tryouts—“ her sentence is cut off with a yawn, “—two months away.”
“You won’t make it to two months if you don’t eat,” you warned her.
Suddenly you heard the doorbell echo through the halls. Curious, you walk towards a window and peep out.
There, standing right out the door, is a tan girl with her dark hair styled in a pixie cut. She was wearing an indigo-and-white shirt, and was carrying a plate of cookies.
“Oh no.”
You turn around to see Amity gawking at the window. “Luz. I forgot she wanted to go grab some breakfast.” She turns to the books, “But—“
You grab the book, placing a bookmark on the page and then shutting it firmly.
“Nuh-uh!” You said, tiptoeing as Amity tries to grab the book back, “you need this, Amity. Now, go dress up, I’ll distract her.”
Amity glares at you, though you can tell she’s a little grateful.
Then, her shoulders slump in defeat. “Fine.”
You look down at Ghost, who cocks her head at you, curiously. You smiled at the cat and whispered, “mission success!”
Then you turned back to the window. “Now to that human.”
“Oh, hello, (reader)!” Luz said excitedly when you opened the door. “Is Amity there? She promised she’d go eat breakfast at the owl house!”
“The owl house, huh?“ you raised an eyebrow. “Hmm. Is my sister eating well?”
She nods enthusiastically. How does she have so much energy at seven in the morning? “Yup! I make her cookies, her favorites are red velvet,” her caramel eyes trail to the red and white cookies on the plate. “Me and Eda spent all night making these! I left most of them at home, but I think Amity won’t mind if she tastes some of them early.”
You now realized why Amity liked hanging out with Luz. She was like a ray of sunshine, and you couldn’t help but smile at her excited nature. “How about coven tryouts? Did she tell you about that?”
Luz’s grin falls, only for a split second. “Yeah. She’s super stressed about it. I’ve been helping her find some books in the library, though—me and Gus and Willow. She really doesn’t want to disappoint her parents—-“ she slapped a hand to her mouth, guilt rippling through her features, “Sorry! Wasn’t supposed to say that!”
“Say what?” A new voice from behind you, and you see Amity. Her hair was back in a half-ponytail, and she wore her black dress with purple leggings underneath.
“Amity!” Luz’s tone brightens, “I brought you cookies!”
“Oh,” red tinges her cheeks as she notices the cookies on the platter Luz was holding. “Um, thanks, Luz.”
“No problem! Ready to head out?”
She nodded. “Bye, (reader).”
“Bye.” You say, watching absentmindedly as the two girls walk away. Luz gives you a final wave, but you can only think of one thing.
Fuck your parents.

Hoodwinked - prologue
You’d think being part of one of the most renowned, richest witch families on the Boiling Isles would be great, right?
Yeah, no.
Being a Blight sounds fun on paper. No worrying about money, being in the Emperor’s good books, plus your parents would be gifted, so that means you’ll be naturally gifted too!
Well, not you. Your siblings, perhaps. But you’re lacking in the talented gene, unfortunately.
You’re painfully average. You get mostly Bs and Cs in your oracle class, you never really had something unique about you, so your parents never quite spent any money on extracurricular classes.
But you’ve seen how they treat Amity. She’s always dozing off on the dinner table, with her nose buried in a book. And she hasn’t been attending sibling sleepovers, which you take personal offense to.
It’s not like it’s her fault, though. It’s your parents, those two menaces, who force her to enter coven tryout from coven tryout, extra class after extra class…honestly, you felt bad for your little sister, but what could you do? You’re powerless against your parents. They would burn down Blight Industries before lending you an ear–
“(Reader)!” snapped your mother, causing you to leave your mind rant. “You’re slowing down again.”
“Sorry, Mom.” you said through your teeth, beginning to sweep once again.
It was dark in the factory, and silent. You much prefer this than the loud cheering of those crude investors that filled the space moments before.
But still, silence with your parents was hell.
Your mother turns to your father, who is tidying up the Abomaton prototype. Her scowl turns sweet.
“Despite the..er, spectacle Amity and that human caused, this was quite a successful sale!” she beams, patting his shoulder, “Excellent job on the 2.0, dear.”
“Yes.” a new voice says abruptly, causing you to drop your broom.
A crimson glow enfolds the broom, and it floats into your palm. Your gaze never leaves the dark where the source of the voice came from, however.
A new figure steps into the light. Your eyes widened, and you knew exactly who this was.
His crisp white cloak trailed behind as he put back his mechanical staff behind him, the gem still glowing dimly. The gold mask, like a barn owl, flashes. You and your parents stare in awe as where he stood, with two coven scouts standing behind him.
Mother falls to her knees, and pulls down Dad. You follow their steps.
“Your Abomatons are quite extraordinary.” The Golden Guard continues, stopping a few feet in front of you. “ Too bad no one will be receiving them.”
You stare up at him in shock, mouth opening to object.
Then, his head snaps to you. “Care to add anything, Blight?”
“They mean no harm!” Mother says hastily, giving him a quick glance before glaring at you. You close your mouth.
“Hm.” his gaze lingers on your face another moment before he clears his throat, “As I was saying, your Abomatons are rather…astounding. Head Witch Deammone gives his regards.”
You feel a grin tug at your lips as you see your father scowls, reminding you of how Amity makes that red angry face when she’s annoyed at the twins.
“The Emperor has heard of your products, and will personally fund research into making them stronger.”
“That’s great news! We are honored to have—” your mother flushed, smiling, but the Golden Guard cuts her off.
“You should be. The Emperor doesn’t take kindly to citizens making….private armies.”
Another glance to you, before he turns around. The scouts mimic him. “We will send a ship with coven officials to see what you can offer tomorrow. Good evening.”
And as hasty as he arrived, he left into the shadows.
Your parents exchanged a worried glance before standing once more.

Right Where I Want to Be (hunter x reader)
You cross off the loopy letters off your list, “Okay, done with the ‘happy birthday’ banner, balloons, and party hats…what’s next?” you turn to ask Hunter, who’s carrying two bags in each hand. You’re still confused as to how he can manage all that weight and still offer to carry the bags you’re holding (“I was raised in a military fortress, trained everyday, and regularly fought criminals, what did you expect?” he chuckles when you asked him). Hunter checks his own list, “Uhh, party streamers and colored paper to make roses.”
“Okay, okay. We can work with this.” you glance up at the sky, which is dreary and a little dark, “It’s a little dark, you think?” He looks up and squints his eyes, “Maybe the human realm’s sky is like that.”
You shake your head, “Looks like it’s about to rain. We should probably be ready if it does.” when you turn your head to gaze at Hunter he’s grinning like an idiot. And you realize —- oh no.
“This is exactly what I’ve been telling you about at the house, but nooooooo, you said that my backpack was unnecessary and,” he makes his gloved hands into bunny fingers and bends them up and down for effect, “ ‘Hunter, you’re worrying too much again!’ “ You scoff as he makes his voice into a high falsetto, “But I was right, wasn’t I?”
“You big doof.” you roll your eyes sprightly as you fight to get rid of the twitching smile that tries to appear on your lips, “I just said it might. Stop showing off your stupid backpack!”
Hunter’s eyes are closed as he sticks out his tongue mischievously, as he turns around to give you the full effect of his stuffed backpack. It was filled with rations, bandages, first aid kits, some scissors for self defense (even though Luz had tried to tell him that criminals don’t just randomly show up in the streets shooting people down with lightning bolts), and more importantly, a mini umbrella Hunter found a few days ago in a store he was very proud of (“ (reader), it’s so useful! You can carry it around in a bag!”). Your annoyance to his immature teasing turns to amusement as he blows you a raspberry. Really, despite all his protests that he isn’t ‘that angsty, annoying teen anymore’, he reminded you of his former persona, the golden guard, sometimes.
“Okay, you’ve done it enough times to make it annoying, not charming. Come on, let’s continue before it starts to rain.” you grab his hand and drag him to the next store, ignoring his surprised and definitely delayed exclaim, “you thought it was charming?!”
“There’s the paper off the list!” you cheer, scratching it off your paper, “man, I am pumped! We’re on a roll, Hunter!” He chuckles as you pump your fist. “How do you even make them into roses?” he asks.
“Through origami folding!” you pipe up, “Amity showed me a few techniques. I can make tiny little flower bouquets and small stars now.” you gasp as stars appear into your eyes, “I can show you! When we get back,”
“Okay, back on track, (reader),” he laughs breathily, “Where do we get party streamers?”
You search around the variety of shops that sit in the open air mall. The colors are bright and blinding all around the two of you.
“Hmm…” all of a sudden, something wet and cold touches your cheek. You yelp in surprise, Hunter looking over to you in confusion before you glance up. A drop touches your eyelid.
“Shit. Fucking called it,” you sigh, “get out your umbrella.” he pretty much has sparkles in his eyes as he beams from ear to ear, rummaging through his backpack before taking out the bright blue umbrella and opening it. You walk under quickly, not wanting to get your sweater wet.
The rain rolled off softly your umbrella, making a quiet pitter-patter against the blue.
For some reason, you and him still. No one moves for a bit, and you’re a little grateful for that.
You always liked the human realm rain. It was calming, comforting almost. You don’t realize you’re inching closer to the boy beside you until you graze your knuckles with his.
You flush with embarrassment, glancing at him, but he’s not looking at you.
He’s looking at something in front of you.
You trail your eyes to where he’s staring at, and its…
A puddle.
“(reader)?”
“Hm?”
“I know this’ll sound stupid, but..” he chuckles nervously, rubbing the nape of his neck. You nod encouragingly.
“...I’ve always wanted to jump in a puddle.”
Okay, you didn’t know what you expected but it definitely wasn’t that. You were a tad bit surprised, but before you can ask any questions, he continues.
“I know it’s a little dumb, but…can we–? I-I mean, I was never allowed such childish indulges in the emperor’s coven, y’know.”
And in a second, you understand.
A soft smile breaks through your lips, and this time you don’t try and hide it. With a spell circle the paper bags you and Hunter carry disappear in a flash of light, teleported safe and dry at home. “Let’s do it,”
With that, his face immediately brightens, even if his cheeks and ears are still red, “Really? You don’t think it’s stupid, do you?”
You shake your head, “no, of course not. You deserve to have your childhood. Even if it’s a few years overdue,” you feel a sting of pity for him all of a sudden. He hasn’t had a childhood at all, not really. Not when he was raised as a child soldier and his only family was a manipulative asshole.
When you glance at him again, he’s simply staring at you. Waiting.
With a quick nod, you close the umbrella, letting the rain wash all over the two of you. You giggle at the sensation before Hunter grabs your hand, squeezing it tightly as if asking for confirmation. You squeeze back, and that’s all he needs.
He leads you to the puddle, hesitant yet giddy and excited. He skids to a halt and stares at the reflection. His aureate hair tangled, wet, as you shake yours out of your eyes. Your face, smiling and happy, and his mouth splits into a beam.
SPLASH!
He makes the first jump, water splattering everywhere. People stop to stare, but that’s not your concern right now. You let out a little giggle before following his lead.
The both of you, two giddy teenagers, interlock fingers. Each of your hands had another to hold, and you both spin, laughing and smiling like idiots.
The water gets all over your sweater, but you don’t mind as Hunter tugs at your hand and leaps to another puddle. The two of you dance, him twirling you around before you catch him in your arms, his body dipping down. You whirl him around, the two of you dancing to the symphony of the raindrops, as you and him jump from puddle to puddle.
Your laughter rings throughout the air as his eyes reach your face and he looks at you and only you. Just…admiring you for a little.
Before you surprise him with a kiss right on the tip of his nose.
“(Reader), what the Titan—“
“Don’t be off your guard, Hunter!” You chortle as you drag him to the next puddle. “You’re forgetting who you’re with!”
And with that little action, he knows.
He’s right where he wants to be.

Always and Forever (hunter x reader)
You descend down the staircase, and with each step the stairs creak and groan. You scrunch up your nose, how can a staircase be this noisy?
You jump down the last remaining steps, “And they stick the landing!” you make a gymnast’s salute, like the one that lady did in the metal box in the living room. Grinning to yourself you glanced around, taking in the basement-turned-bedroom.
It’s rather dusty, the musky smell filling your lungs. It must haven’t been used for a while, not until you and the others…
You shake your head, not wanting to finish that thought. Now wasn’t time to be worried or stressed.
Cardboard boxes piled corners and littered the ground, with words like, ‘Luz’s costumes’, or ‘Manny’s cosplay 2008’ scribbled hastily in black ink. The fairy lights, which hung from every corner of the wall and every pole in sight, paint the room a warm white shade.
You now look to the two sleeping areas in the middle. The couch, which you presumed was where Gus slept, was unmade and rather messy, with the blanket sprawled across the couch and pillows everywhere. The sleeping bag, however, was neat and tidy, without a crease in the covers.
“Done examining me and Gus’s room?” The cocky, scratchy voice cuts into the silence, and you perk up at such a sound.
Quickly you whip your head to where it had come from. Hunter, who now was smirking triumphantly because he had properly startled you, was sitting behind a table with the…uh, sewing device in front of him. You were a little cautious of the gizmo, seeing as it pricked you when you put your finger in the needle contraption the first time you tried repairing a towel! Honestly, you even wondered why Hunter spent so much time with such a thing.
Said blonde now runs his fingers through his newly cut hair. “What are you even looking for? The Titan’s lost gold or something?”
You roll your eyes at the reference of a child’s tale back in the demon realm, but you stride to Hunter and plop yourself down in his chair, “What are you doing, then?”
He gestures to the denim jeans inside the mouth of the device, “I’m repairing Gus’s jeans!” he replies cheerfully, “They got ripped when Vee was teaching him those….uh, roller skating tricks?” he shakes his head as he begins the device, its whirring sound making his voice a little muffled, “I’ll never get the point of it.”
“The point is to have fun!” you laugh, “What, do you not know what that is?”
He stops the machine to give you a pointed look, “I know what fun is!” his voice cracks when he says ‘what’, and you chuckle at his face, with reddened embarrassment.
He raises an eyebrow when he recovers, “Really? Sticking wheels on your feet and rolling around, with the very high risk of falling and getting a broken nose counts as, ‘fun’?”
“Just admit you’re scared of it, Hunter.”
“Wha – I am NOT scared of roller skating!” he utters a little too loudly, and now you tilt your head sideways, your smirk telling him he shouldn’t have said anything, “Oh, really? Then how come you were clinging onto my sweater and demanding I won’t let go of your hand?” you accuse.
“I — Uh, I was just trying to make you feel better about your poor skating skills!” he counters, “And anyways, I saw Luz and Amity holding hands while they were skating, are we not allowed to do that?”
You flush, because he doesn’t realize what he’s said. Amity and Luz were holding hands because they were dating.
But…weren’t you and Hunter dating too?
You had forgotten about that! Yes, yes you were. Ever since a week ago, you and him had been, er, going out, as one could say. It still surprises you every time you remember.
With your lack of words he decides he’s won, so Hunter turns his attention back to the sewing device. His hands move against the denim as the thread makes a trail against the blue fabric.
You have to admit, it’s kinda mesmerizing. The way his hands work, moving the fabric higher and higher, the needle stitching the thread by itself. You can’t quite wrap your mind around how technologically advanced humans have become. Maybe having no magic pushed them further to create better things?
You glance back at your frie — your boyfriend. He’s humming an idle tune as he works, reminding you of that one movie with the yellow and blue dressed princess who talked to animals and cleaned a stranger’s house Luz had showed you during one of the movie nights.
Hunter’s wearing a red shirt with some triangle red bird with very dark eyebrows etched down, with its beak in a frown. He’s wearing sweatpants with that bat superhero, and his pink bunny slippers hit on the ground as he taps them. With the tapping and humming, it looks like he’s hosting his very own synchronized dance.
“Aaand done!” he says finally, sunnily as he lifts up the newly repaired jeans, with a grin that pictures his tooth gap perfectly, “So? Whaddya think?”
You tilt your head. The brightly bubblegum colored thread certainly…added a pop of color to the pants.
“It’s colorful.” you decide finally. Hunter’s smile only seems to brighten more, “Thanks! For a beginner I think I’m not too shabby, personally!” he puts down the jeans and runs his fingers down the stitches of pink, beaming at his work.
You can’t help it as a soft smile upturns your lips. Why was his smile so pretty?
You hadn’t seen much of that smile in the Boiling Isles, where he was always frowning or angry or stressed.
Hunter’s gone through so much. From being a scout at age eleven to becoming the golden guard at age fourteen, to then finding out his life was built upon a tower of lies, to then finally becoming him. Just Hunter.
And you’re proud of him.
You put your hand to his shoulder, just smiling at the newly-fixed jeans with pops of pink then saying quietly, “You did great Hunter. I’m so proud of you.”
You don’t get a response for a while, so you tear your eyes away from the pants and look up curiously at him.
Alarm pierces your chest as you can see his fingers tremble on the pants, so slight yet so noticeable, and put them down. You dart your eyes up, and his own magenta ones are blurry and unfocused.
Immediately you scoot closer to him, bringing a hand up to mop the tears away with your sleeve, “W-why’re you crying? Did I do something wrong? Did I say something?” you panic.
Hunter laughs, coming out more of a breath than a chuckle as his scarred hand touches yours. When he turns his head to graze his lips on your palm, you feel his blonde curls move against your hand.
Heat spreads in your face as he clears his throat and begins, still a little raspy, “No, you didn’t say anything wrong, (reader).” he chuckles, “It’s just….I haven’t really heard those words come from anyone, much. You know, the emperor’s coven and their high expectations!” Now the tears begin to fall, slowly, “It was impossible to please Unc — emperor Belos.”
Your heart drops when he says that. He sniffles, “Sorry, this was stupid—”
His words are interrupted with your body clashing with his, you cradling one arm on his head and the other at his back. Your heart presses with his, and you can feel his muffled beating grow quicker.
Hunter stays frigid for a second, before he melts into the hug, leaning his head on your shoulder as he wraps his arms around your body. The warmth of it all encourages you to say what you want.
“I’m always going to be proud of you, Hunter,” you whisper softly against his hair, “Always and forever.”
No answer again, but you don’t need one. This says enough, more than enough, with your bodies intertwined with each other, sharing each other’s warmth.
He doesn’t pull away, and neither do you for a bit. Because this is what he needs, and this is what you’ll give him.
“Thank you.” he mumbles hoarsely, sniffling. You hold him tighter, squeezing his body. You hope he understands the message you’re giving him.
That you won’t ever desert him, for as long as you can. That you’ll stay by his side. Always and forever.
So that’s where you stay until the last of his tears end. And when you pull away, you’re grinning.
“So, how about a sewing lesson?”
