i've been focusing deeply on not giving a shit about what people think. if i notice my thoughts going down that path, then i shut them down. i'm not trying to read anyone's mind. i'm just going to be myself and try my best. if i fuck up, then i fuck up. if i look stupid, then i look stupid. everyone looks stupid, sometimes. it's so much more important to be yourself earnestly and passionately, in all of your stupid glory

Whenever an ugly feeling arises in me, maybe resent, greed, insecurity, etc. I just have to laugh and think to myself, this is what being alive is and I don’t deny my capacity for ugliness, in fact I store my faith in it because that same awareness of my own ugliness is the place I go to when I am aware of my own beauty. I have all the time in the world to sort it out, that’s the thing with self trust. I don’t hide from others and I don’t hide from myself, where there is ugliness I observe it and I don’t turn away.

It's funny to me that I've got friends who support me and share every post I make about my book and have multiple copies but my own family hasn't even bought my first book, let alone showed any interest in it.

But I'm a bad person for not wanting to spend the holiday with them even though they clearly don't care.
