I DON'T EVEN RECOGNIZE YOUR FACE — the realization startles Shoko, real bad. It's been almost exactly two weeks since she’s seen Karin and the girl is a ghost in front of her, haunting and haunted. The bags under their eyes match, something Shoko would point out if the tension weren’t already so thick between them. Shoko thinks of how to bridge it, realizes she doesn’t quite know how — she’s tired of being put in these impossible situations.

Fragile little moments in the hands of a clumsy child — Shoko stumbles over the care and kindness she holds for Karin, lets it come out a little twisted, a little sharp. It’s her own fault, far too wrapped up in Suguru’s disappearance, Satoru’s consistent demands to know more — Shoko had no answers at the village, she has none now. The only difference is that Karin has never really looked to her for guidance, something Shoko is terribly pleased about.
