My KCON Paris fan account

Disclaimer

I wrote this within the hour after the concert ended and so I haven’t had to time to properly collect or organise my thoughts; therefore, please excuse any language errors and lack of coherency. Also, I’m planning on writing only about the groups I stan (SHINee, BTS, f(x)), because I probably can’t do the other groups justice due to lack of prior knowledge/experience.

Background

Ari (@onjinkiri) and I arrived in Paris from London on Tuesday morning and, following two days of sightseeing, prepared ourselves for the trip’s main event: KCON 2016 France (KCON Paris). We arrived at the arena in Bercy at 9.30 this morning, only to end up queuing for 10 and a ½ hours for our seats en fosse (in the pit). Our only sustenance throughout was a meringue and pastry, courtesy of our guardian angel @sporezz/@minho-ness. 💘 I must mention that we had the pleasure of meeting a bunch of lovely ARMYs, Shawols and other fans in the queue - thank you to them for making our queue experience so lovely!

The main event

I’ll cut to the chase: basically, I’ve rarely felt so fulfilled in my entire life as I felt today, seeing the people I adore not only for their art and accomplishment, but also for their hard work and spirit and passion for life; getting to in turn be seen by them was merely an added bonus, (as we were in the pit, we were lucky to be quite close to our idols and so a fair amount of eye contact did ensue - please just kill me now…).

As expected, our girls were simply amazing! Krystal appeared so happy to be there; the fact that this was so obvious on her face filled me with joy. Luna’s voice was a dream and her natural features were so stunning and gosh, I just love her. I can’t believe how much Amber stole the show though. Her charisma, sex appeal and beauty is INSANE; she is such a ridiculously beautiful human, I was shocked. Her performance of ‘Shake That Brass’ was unexpected but an absolute joy and such a crowd pleaser, we all went wild. (Shoutout to the absent Victoria - she was very missed.)

BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan)

What can I even venture to say about BTS? Fuck. Holy shitting fuck, they shut the place down. They opened their set with ‘Fire’ and of course we couldn’t hold it in after that. Hobi and V dominated our side of the stage. Let me tell you, anybody that has ever claimed Hoseok is ugly, including himself, is sorely mistaken, as he was GORGEOUS. His face was BEAUTIFUL. He had wonderful stage presence, genuinely the best of dancers and such a performer. And he’s so so tall, he looked like the tallest in Bangtan from our vantage point, closely followed by Jungkook (I know this probably isn’t accurate, just our perception). Overall, I am so so happy I got the opportunity to be on Hobi’s side of the stage. He was just so great at 'turning up.’ 😂 V really caught my eye so much more than I expected he would, he looked like he was carved from marble: his face was immaculate and remained so throughout. His expression was so sexy but kind of solemn and I wonder if it was simply his stage persona or whether he was tired/sad. Nevertheless, he managed to absolutely kill it on stage and I reckon he deserves a place on Bangtan’s dance line. Speaking of which, Jin turned out to be a very tight dancer live. I understand why recordings may leave him vulnerable to over-analysis, but performing live, he fit right in with the rest of the boys. And he has more stage presence than you’d think. And his smile is beautiful. What a lovely human. Shoutout to Jungkook for being a curly haired god with the booty and thighs of Hercules. He is so hench and broad, I was so surprised - I expected the skinny kid he used to be, but he is almost Minho levels of muscle (I’ll get to that later). I wish I could say more about him as he is probably my second favourite in Bangtan after Jimin, but he never really came over to our side. All I can say is I can totally understand why he is the centre, his charisma was no joke. For me, he was second in looks in Bangtan, closely following after V. Jimin. My bias, my love. I screamed his name in every loud moment and in every quiet one too, and I hope he heard me and others calling his name because I want him to know just how much he is loved. He obviously killed it with his dancing, his singing voice was so solid and beautiful, and when he reached that part of the 'Fire’ choreography, (you know the part I mean), the crowd went wild. I love how he seemed to just lose himself on stage at times, like there was nothing he wanted more than to be performing on stage. I really think he was the coolest on stage, I know a lot of extremely hard work goes into it (which is part of why I love him) but the end effect was something so unobtainably effortless, I was in awe. And so yeah, Jimin is probably the sexiest person I’ve ever seen in my life. Jiminnie mostly wasn’t on our side of the stage but then suddenly, when my eyes were elsewhere, he appeared, rude as fuck and much too suddenly. He came right up and gave a lot of eye contact, but didn’t look right at me, which was a shame (maybe if I had remembered to hold up my Jimin home screen - alas). In spite of that, I can tell you this: Jimin’s eyes are the most beautiful things in the world, liquid black streaks in his perfect face. He is full of soul and his eyes were incredibly serious and deep. (And I wouldn’t have him any taller btw. Let’s stop with the height jokes please, his height suits him and he’s genuinely perfect, ask anyone that was there, even the non-Jimin stans.) And then Jimin left. BTS finished their set and Jimin had looked so serious and I felt sad that he worked so hard and was so wonderful and yet may not realise how much that makes me and others like me want to improve ourselves and live our lives like lives his. And so I just straight broke down and cried. And I cried and cried and wept until midway through F.T. Island’s set (who were awesome btw and totally rocked the crowd, their frontman is sooo charismatic and kinda hilarious, and their bassist is le sex) and then I resurfaced and Ari (@onjinkiri) dried my face to 'get me ready for Minho’ and I said to myself that I would calm down and enjoy my ults.

SHINee

After what seemed like an age, including a Leeteuk-led singalong, it was time for the greatest lads in KPOP. I couldn’t stop screaming every one of their names and every variation, even Tae’s baptismal name haha. They were super responsive and PROFESSIONAL, they were born to be on stage (BTS dominated the entirety of stage and moved around very well, but SHINee perhaps even more so - at one point, Key was leaning out from the corner of the stage, I was so prepared to catch him). I’ll go through the members one by one because they each deserve individual attention. Firstly, we were very sad to be missing Jjong, but also so incredibly proud of his album promotions and sentiments. It felt justified to recognise his absence and wish him well, as Minho encouraged us to do. TAEMIN WAS WEARING A CHOKER. WHY WAS THAT ALLOWED?????? 😭😂😭😂He had his post-Dome physique (I’ve never seen a more exquisite figure, he was like a model but better) and his Francesco-sequel, Ace-era hairstyle. Gosh he’s perfect. He’s an angel, such an incredible and superior dancer and stage-presence with beautiful tan skin and the most gorgeous mouth and lips in all of existence, surely. Not meaning to dehumanise him, but he is a living fantasy, it would seem. And he gave me eye contact. And so many cheeky looks in our direction, just one of the many signs that he adores being on stage. He was a either 100% switched on or being a cheeky little shit sending our corner mischievous smirks and having adorable interactions with the other members. *squee* And let no-one ever tell you that Onew is lazy, fat or not committed to/unfulfilled by idol life. He was clearly SO HAPPY and SO GOOD on stage. An absolute professional. He was beautiful too of course, he had a gorgeous, boy-next-door hairstyle and his smile lit up our whole section of the pit when he came over. He was a lot skinnier and smaller than we were expecting too, Onthighs are adorable and a thing of beauty but also probably the size of Jungkook’s neck haha (I joke, I simply mean to say that were less chunky than we’d been led to believe). I want to add that he was a legit dancer, SHINee is made complete by him. Key is AMAZING at getting on the level of the fan. While Taemin and Onew were cocky on stage (with the exception of a handful of ridiculously cute moments when they stepped out of their respective stage personas to fix their hair or throw confetti like utter dorks), Key was just so humble, giving each of us so so much eye contact (thank you for looking at me and my sorry face). He told us how much he loved us and it meant so much, he didn’t throw the words away flippantly but said them with proper weight and we were so touched. And Keymera is no joke, and it extends to his ability to find his fans’ faces too. Can I also just add that Key’s face and eye smile and his little big head (please don’t ask me to explain - all I can say is think of a toddler) melted me. MINHO. Prince. To give some context, I have loved him for 3 long years, he is my ultimate bias, and I wanted nothing more than his recognition. And he gave me whole seconds of his eye contact. I am so so lucky. He was smiling so fully, his eyes were all creased and sparkling. He was pure sweetness. So tall and healthy-looking. So much cooler than I was expecting. He blew us kisses and I just UGHHHH.

Final stage

I can’t remember much about SHINee leaving the stage, I guess I’d just gone into denial by that point. I do remember repeatedly asking Ari when SHINee would be back, (sorry about that bestie 😅). And thankfully there was a final stage with everyone, all the groups, back on stage. And guess what? Jimin and Minho were the last two people I could see on stage. They both clearly love attention and the crowd loved giving it to them. I wish I could have seen more of Jimin’s true smile but I guess that’s just greedy. Apparently Minho and V had an on-stage moment right at the end but I couldn’t see.

Thank you for reading through this pile of crap. I thought I would leave KCON Paris fulfilled, but I have a newfound need to see my bias groups again and again and again - just the once is definitely not enough. So I’ll see you fellow MeUs, ARMYs & Shawols at the next one.
