Burden of PCOS
PCOS is defined as the presence of any two of the following criteria:
Cysts in one or both ovaries
Higher amounts of male hormones (testosterone)
Irregularity in the menstrual cycle
Over the period of time, it has been seen, that PCOS is not only high levels of male hormones or irregularity in menses, but it has long term complications. It is an accepted fact, that, PCOS is linked with metabolic disorders, increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and endometrial cancer.
PCOS and insulin resistance
Insulin resistance is a condition, where the body is not able to utilize insulin properly.
Insulin is a hormone that helps the body use sugar from foods for energy. When insulin is not utilized properly, the demand for insulin in the body increases. And to meet this demand, body produces more insulin. Insulin excess, leads to increase in the androgens (male sex hormones). Insulin resistance is seen in both, obese and lean women with PCOS. Insulin resistance causes irregularity of the menstrual cycle as well. Insulin resistance increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
PCOS and Diabetes
Studies have shown that women with PCOS are three to seven times more prone to develop type-2 diabetes. Certain risk factors of women with PCOS which can further progress to diabetes are:
Obesity
Body’s inability to utilize insulin
Family history of diabetes
Irregular menses
Even though obesity is a risk factor, but impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes are common even among skinny PCOS women
PCOS and Obesity
The link between obesity and PCOS is well established. Women with PCOS tend to have excess distribution of fat over the abdominal area. Besides having long term complications, obesity and PCOS affect the reproductive health of women. Studies have shown that women who are suffering from PCOS and are obese, are more prone to menstrual irregularities and infertility. They are more likely to have symptoms like hirsutism, acne, alopecia, acanthosis nigricans etc. With certain changes in diet and lifestyle, it may be possible to improve the reproductive health and infertility.
PCOS and Cardiovascular health
Women suffering from PCOS have increased prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors like: hypertension, increased levels of cholesterol and triglycerides and abnormal vascular function markers. These cardiovascular symptoms can start at an early age, and increase the risk of atherosclerosis at an earlier age.
PCOS and Endometrial cancer
Women suffering from PCOS are at an increased risk of developing endometrial cancer. Women with PCOS and also suffering from obesity, diabetes, or hypertension are at an increased risk of endometrial cancer.
Lifestyle recommendations for reducing the burden of PCOS complications:
Regular moderate exercise
Weight loss
Quit smoking
Limit the intake of caffeine and alcohol

What Causes Infertility in Women?
What can be more joyous to the couple than starting own family?
However, natural conception may just not be possible for some couples.
This is quite intimidating and emotionally upsetting for a couple eager to become parents soon. Finding ways and means to try an alternative route, couples go through enormous expenses and the possible health complications associated with them.
Infertility is defined as inability to conceive, after one year of regular unprotected intercourse. A famous Chinese philosopher Lin Yutang says that, “Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother”. However, the increase in the incidence of female infertility leaves women devoid of this joy.
Causes of infertility in women
Lifestyle changes, hormonal imbalance, stress and many other factors can affect a woman’s ability to get pregnant. These factors can be classified as structural or functional abnormalities. Some of the common causes of infertility in women are:
1. Ovulation problems:
Periodic release of egg from the ovaries each month is known as ovulation. Abnormal, irregular, or absent ovulation is ovulatory dysfunction. Ovulatory dysfunction affects nearly 20% of women causing infertility. There can be problems in ovulation due to hormonal imbalance, less production of female sex hormone-estrogen, irregular menstrual cycles or an existing condition like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
2. Block in the fallopian tube
Every month the egg released from ovary is carried to the uterus by fallopian tubes. In some women, the fallopian tubes may be blocked which stops the egg from reaching the uterus. This is one of the causes for 30% of all infertility cases.
3. Cervix:
Cervix is the lower part of uterus which opens into the vagina. Narrow cervix or abnormal cervical mucus secretion can also lead to interfere with conception, as it blocks the sperm from entering into the uterus.
4. Unexplained infertility:
If no specific cause for infertility is diagnosed, it is unexplained infertility. It might improve with time but require medical interventions.
Stay strong and do not give up
Sometimes a natural stimulation of hormones is the only thing which is necessary to boost the chances of fertility.
Several studies have found that the right combination of herbs can improve fertility by balancing hormones and restoring the natural rhythm of a woman’s life.
Try M2-TONE syrup and M2-TONE tablets by Charak Pharma, to restore your rhythm naturally.
M2-TONE is known to increase the pregnancy rates.
It is a combination of various time tested herbs, useful in the treatment of female infertility. Some of the ingredients of M2-TONE are: Ashoka, Amalaki, Vasa, Haritaki, Shunthi etc.

What Causes Erectile Dysfunction in Diabetic Men
Men who have diabetes are three times more likely to have erectile dysfunction than men who do not have diabetes. Among men with ED, those with diabetes are likely to have experienced the problem as much as 10 to 15 years earlier than men without diabetes. The risk of ED increases with the number of years you have diabetes and the severity of your diabetes. Even though 20% to 75% of men with diabetes have ED, it can be successfully managed in almost all men.
How diabetes causes erectile dysfunction –
The connection between diabetes and ED is related to your circulation and nervous system.
It is established that diabetes affects not only peripheral nerve function but peripheral blood flow as well.
Diabetes can cause damage to nerves throughout your body-including the nerves to your penis. Damage to penile nerves can interfere with your body’s ability to send messages to and from the penis, which can lead to ED.
Atherosclerosis is one of the most common complications of long term uncontrolled diabetes, in which the blood vessels become narrow and hard. Narrowing or hardening of these blood vessels reduces blood flow to your penis, which can cause ED.
In uncontrolled diabetes cases, due to persistent high blood sugar level body does not produce enough Nitric Oxide (NO), which is a blood vessel dilator and vascular tissues don’t respond as effectively to NO. Lack of vasodilation hampers blood supply to penis, which results in erectile dysfunction.
If you have diabetes but adopt a healthier lifestyle, you may reduce your diabetes symptoms and improve your sexual health.
Tips to prevent erectile dysfunction in diabetes men:
Keep blood sugar level under control
Maintain your weight
Follow healthy lifestyle, balanced diet
Regular exercise
Practise Yoga, Meditation
Stop alcohol, smoking
Get enough night sleep
Manage your stress
Do Kegel exercises

Lack of Sleep Can Trouble Your Diabetes
Sleep has often been thought of as a “restorative” process for the mind and the body; however, many studies have shown that it also directly affects many metabolic and hormonal processes.
Sleep is important for everyone, but it’s especially important when your body experiences changing blood sugar levels and other symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Several evidence indicates that chronic lack of sleep may contribute to the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Adequate sleep and good sleep hygiene should be included among the goals of a healthy lifestyle, especially for patients with diabetes.
Yet sleep is no longer thought of as strictly a restorative process for the body. The importance of sleep for metabolic function and specifically glucose homeostasis is now widely accepted, as we can see the correlation between sleep deprivation or poor sleep quality and an increased risk of diabetes, obesity and aging etc.
The short-term sleep deprivation causes measurable changes in glucose metabolism, hormone levels, autonomic nervous system activity, and other variables, loss of sleep could contribute to diabetes.
Sleep deprivation causes changes in the effectiveness of the body’s control of appetite, which can lead to weight gain, increased resistance to insulin and worsens diabetes. The loss of normal sleep hours or addition of sleep hours seems to undo the body’s chemistry and completely throw off-balance the blood glucose levels.
The frequent urination is also one of the causes for disrupt sleep in diabetes patient, which ultimately helps to worsen diabetes. The uncontrolled high blood sugar level for longer duration further leads to many other complications like- neuropathy, restless leg syndrome, and other disorders that make it harder to sleep.
The quality of sleep has also declined as the population has aged and as the prevalence of obesity and its related sleep disorders has increased. Furthermore, patients with type 2 diabetes tend to sleep less, and to sleep poorly. The study evidence supports an association between short sleep duration (< 7 hours per night) and the risk of diabetes, and also between poor sleep quality and the risk of diabetes.
Maintain proper sleep hygiene to improve diabetes symptoms include:
Create a regular bedtime schedule
Reduce your caffeine intake
Ensure a comfortable and relaxing sleep environment
Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and calm
Avoid stimulating activities just before bed, including work, exercise, watching TV or using a computer
Regular exercise and/or meditation to a daily routine.
Try Ayurvedic remedy to ensure proper sound sleep naturally. ZZOWIN Tablets:
ZZOWIN is natural sleep regulator containing time-tested, safe and effective sleep enhancers developed by CHARAK PHARMA. Stress – A Prime Cause Of Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction can be a sign of a physical or psychological condition. Mental health conditions like stress and anxiety can also affect how your brain signals your body’s physical response. In the case of an erection, stress and anxiety can interrupt how your brain sends messages to the penis to allow extra blood flow.
How excessive stress causes demolition of your erection?
Just about any type of stress can cause erectile dysfunction. Problems at work, relationship conflict, illness, financial burdens, or even fear of aging can be stressful enough to interfere with sexual responses. For some men, erectile dysfunction is the cause of their stress.
Erections are an involuntary process your brain controls. The sympathetic and parasympathetic part of Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), that work simultaneously to cause you to have an erection. However, when you’re under a great deal of stress, the two parts of the ANS compete with one another, and results in erectile dysfunction.
Also, during stressful situations, the body reacts by releasing hormones (often referred to as stress hormones) into the bloodstream. Stress hormones act by mobilizing energy from storage, increasing heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate and shutting down metabolic processes such as digestion, reproduction, growth and immunity.
Stress can also often cause a person to get inadequate amounts of sleep as well as having poor quality sleep. Reduced or inferior sleep is likely to result in inadequate testosterone production, because essentially all testosterone is manufactured at night when a person sleeps. That means that if a person gets less sleep than what is optimal, he will normally have lower than normal testosterone levels.
The stress due to performance anxiety is one of the important causes of lack of erection. It happens when you feel stress about your ability to obtain a strong erection for sexual intercourse. You feel fearful and embarrassed, and your anxiety increases, which results in recurring difficulties actually having an erection.
Increased anxiety causes stress and narrows blood vessels and reduces blood flow to the penis makes it more difficult to have an erection. Even men who generally do not have difficulties may not be able to get an erection because they are overcome by sexual performance anxiety.
So it is extremely important to rule out the cause of your stress and try to overcome it to have better erection and happy sexual life.
Tips to manage stress to treat erectile dysfunction:
Talk to experts to manage stress, depression, and other life concerns
Couples counseling to help with relationship problems
Sex therapy to work through intimacy and performance issues
Try to eliminate many stressors from your life as you are able to do.
Practise-Yoga, Meditation
Listen to music, talk to a friend
Exercise well
Get good amounts of sleep (at least 6 to 8 hours of sound sleep)
Eat a balanced nutritious diet

Causes of Diminishing Sperm Count in India
One of the major causes of infertility in India among the men is low sperm count. In India, the rising cases of infertility in recent years have impacted several families. Problems with conception, however, are no longer linked to the female but have largely become a result of male infertility. In fact, recent findings indicate that infertility affects an estimated 15% of couples globally, amounting to 48.5 million couples. Of these, males are found to be solely responsible for 20-30% of infertility cases and contribute to 50% of cases overall.
The reasons for these can be quite widespread including medical, environmental and a host of other factors. Erratic, sedentary and addictive lifestyles are playing a major role not just in men’s general health but their sexual and reproductive health as well.
Following are the common causes for low sperm count seen in India –
Diabetes: This is the main cause of increasing infertility rate in the men. Research shows that 31% of the men, who are suffering from the diabetes, also suffer from the infertility. The excessive amount of the sugar destroys the production of the sperms. As a result, there may be low sperm count.
High blood pressure: Anti-hypertensive medicines, beta blockers reduce semen volume, semen concentration and mobility that cause low sperm count in hypertensive patient
Obesity: The sperm production is adversely affected with the excessive amount of the fat. Excessive weight gain directly impacts the sperm and also establishes the need for the hormone alterations.
Hormonal imbalance: Hormonal imbalance occurs when the testosterone in the body is low. Sperm production is dependent upon the amount of the testosterone in the body. It acts as the crucial nutrient supplier in the sperm production.
Varicoceles: Varicoceles are the condition of the inflammation of the veins. This usually depletes the testicle. This is one of the strong reasons for male infertility. But this is linked to the irregular testicular heat regulation. This will lead to the decreased quality of the sperm
Excess alcohol consumption: Increased levels of alcohol in the body can lower testosterone levels, decreases sperm production. In addition, chronic ailments caused by excessive alcohol can also impact male infertility.
Smoking and other tobacco consumption: It has a direct impact on the sperm count. Men who smoke heavily may have decreased sperm quality and lower mobility thus affecting its ability to fertilize eggs.
Prescription drug abuse: Ingesting too many prescription drugs or steroids can affect the size of the testicles causing them to shrink and in turn decrease sperm production resulting in infertility. This can also affect the quality of the sperm being produced.
Excess stress: Chronic stress can impact hormone levels, sperm count and motility and the overall
Over exercising: Constant intense workouts, especially with heavy weights, can also impact infertility as excessive exercise can lower testosterone levels in the body thereby decreasing the sperm count.
High testicular temperature:
Sometimes, increased heat usually results in the low sperm count. Sitting down for the long period of time, wearing close fitting clothes and working on the laptop for the long period of time, usually increase temperature in the scrotum and lead to the low sperm count.
ADDYZOA
ADDYZOA, it is a best medicine for male fertility developed by Charak Pharma, which improves the functional competence of sperms.
ADDYZOA improves sperm count by restoring balance in Hypothalamus Pituitary Gonadal (HPG) axis. Ashwagandha, Guduchi and Amalaki are potent antioxidants in ADDYZOA, which act by reducing the excessive oxidative stress in male infertility treatment. Kapikachchhu and Ashwagandha improve sperm count. Shatavari increases spermatogenesis Thus, ADDYZOA is a best medicine to improve sperm motility, it improves sperm count, and morphology and also increases semen density.

How Diabetes Affects Your Body?
High blood sugar levels can cause many serious health issues. High blood sugar levels can affect other body parts as well. It causes damage to various parts of the body like, the eyes, heart, nerves, blood vessels, kidneys etc; it can also increase the risk of other health conditions.
Diabetes and its effects on the body
1. Heart and blood vessels
People suffering from diabetes are more prone to serious heart problems at an earlier age than people without the condition.
High blood sugar causes damage to the lining of blood vessels. High blood sugar levels cause narrowing of the blood vessels and reduce the flexibility of the arteries. This restricts the flow of blood and oxygen and causes damage to other body processes and organs.
This can cause stroke, heart attack, or peripheral arterial disease. Erectile dysfunction can be an early warning sign of blood vessel disease and indicates a higher risk of heart disease
2. Eyes
Blood vessels of the eyes are affected by high blood sugar levels. This causes blurred vision, reduced vision, and even may lead to blindness. The Importance of Oral Health
Gum disease is the most common chronic inflammatory condition, yet it’s often a silent disease. The mouth can act as a window of entry for an infection, ongoing inflammation in your mouth can allow bacteria to enter the bloodstream, which may lead to more inflammation in other parts of your body.
A causal relationship is found between oral health and overall wellness. Gum disease is linked to a host of illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, and rheumatoid arthritis etc.
Oral health is overall health:
Cardiovascular disease: Chronic inflammation from gum disease has been associated with the development of cardiovascular problems such as heart disease, blockages of blood vessels, and strokes.
Diabetes: We found reciprocal relationship between gum disease and diabetes. When you treat oral diseases, the need for insulin is reduced. And when you treat and control diabetes, immediately the condition in the mouth improves.
Respiratory diseases: The oral cavity hosts a highly diverse microbiota. Because of its humidity and temperature, the mouth provides an appropriate environment for the development of organized bacterial communities. Oral bacteria and, especially, periodontal pathogens have been considered as important agents with regard to causing other illnesses including respiratory disease.
Alzheimer’s disease: Alzheimer’s is linked to poor oral health. Research has revealed long-term evidence that linked gum inflammation and Alzheimer’s disease; gum disease could increase the risk of cognitive dysfunction.
Autoimmune disease: Poor oral health has been linked with the development of infection in other parts of the body. Gum disease has positive association with autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis.
Kidney disease: There is increasing evidence of associations between chronic kidney disease and periodontal disease, with a higher proportion of those with chronic kidney disease having periodontal disease and vice versa. Periodontal disease has emerged as a non-traditional risk factor for chronic kidney disease. Taking proper care and hygiene of your gums may reduce your risk of developing chronic kidney problems.
Vision problems: The health of your teeth and gums can dramatically affect your vision. Tooth decay and gum disease often lead to deterioration in vision. The fungal and bacterial infections from root canals and other periodontal infections may directly contribute to vision loss.
Try Ayurvedic remedy- GUM TONE powder and gel
GUM TONE is a unique formulation of astringents, which tightens gums and arrests bleeding. GUM TONE inhibits the growth of salivary bacteria and prevents the formation of cavities, strengthens the gums and arrests bleeding, has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-plaque activity.

Novel Concept Of Agni In Ayurveda
The concept of Agni (digestive fire) is Ayurveda’s major contribution to healthcare. Agni represents solar energy in the living beings. Maintenance of physiological actions in a state is dependent on the normal state of agni while the abnormal state of agni contributes to pathological changes and absence of agni results in death of the living being. Therefore, maintenance of human life itself is dependent on agni. It contributes to the lustre and complexion of the skin, energy, strength and growth of the body. Ultimately, it is the agni that determines which substances enter our cells and tissues, and which substances should be removed as waste. In this way, agni is the gatekeeper of life. In fact, according to Ayurveda, when the agni is extinguished, death soon follows.

Enjoy Spring, The Ayurvedic Way!
During this time, the winter season winds up and the sun becomes apparent again. Flowers start to bloom as the weather gets warmer. This signifies the onset of spring season.
Our body consists of three main functional elements, also known as the doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Kapha dosha in body increases during the winter season. During spring (vasant ritu), this increased kapha is liquefied, due to the heat of sun. It decreases the Agni (digestive fire) and may give rise to many diseases. Kapha dosha should be restored during the spring season.
Aggravated kapha dosha can cause various ailments like:
Cough, cold, sneezing, indigestion, heaviness in stomach, nausea, excess salivation etc.
One, who has his doshas balanced, is able to enjoy the spring season. He feels fresh, and gains energy, enthusiasm.
Diet recommendations in Ayurved
Kapha Dosha which was aggravated and frozen now begins to melt in this season. This reduces the Agni (digestive fire). Therefore, the digestive capacity drops significantly during the spring season.
Foods to eat:
During the spring season choose light and easily digestible foods.
Include these foods in your diet: barley, wheat, rice, bitter vegetables, mango, and honey, spices such as coriander, cumin, turmeric, and fennel help in stimulating the digestion. These spices are known to calm the increased kapha dosha in the body. They stimulate the digestive fire (Agni), and help in digestion.
Drink warm water. Those obsessed with teas can take herbal tea.
You can also drink fresh ginger tea to balance the Kapha dosha. To remove excess kapha, drink warm lemon water with little salt in the morning.
Foods to avoid:
Avoid sweet, salty or oily foods as they increase the Kapha dosha. Kapha dosha being already aggravated during spring, eating these foods can only make the condition worse.
All cold things should be avoided.
Lifestyle recommendations:
Regular exercise
Regular outdoor exercise will help to reduce the increased Kapha dosha. It also allows you to revamp with nature thereby promoting a healthy mind.
Do not take day-time naps
Day-time naps, especially after the lunch is strictly not allowed during this season. As day-time naps will slower the digestion.
Practise yoga and meditation
Quit smoking
Smoking causes indigestion, and it will aggravate the Kapha dosha
Practise Abhyanga (self-massage)
You can self-massage your body every morning with warm sesame oil (Til taila)
Oil massage promotes relaxation; it balances the mind and stimulates waste removal.
Bathe with warm water, apply some natural fragrance to the body
Avoid exposure to direct air
Panchakarma procedure given by Ayurvedic practitio
ners is recommended.
Panchakarma is cleansing and rejuvenating of the body

8 Diet Tips to Conquer Kidney Stone
To avoid recurrence of kidney stones, or to prevent them from developing in the first place, you may try following diet tips to your diet. 1. Avoid oxalate-rich foods:
Calcium oxalate kidney stones are the commonest type of kidney stones. Oxalate is naturally found in many foods, including fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, grains, legumes, and even chocolate and tea. The foods that contain high levels of oxalate include peanuts, rhubarb, spinach, beets, chocolate and sweet potatoes. Avoid these foods to help reduce the amount of oxalate in your urine.
2. Citrus food:
Citrus fruits, and their juice, can help reduce or block the formation of stones due to naturally occurring citrate. Good sources of citrus include lemons, oranges, and grapefruit.
3. Calcium and vitamin D:
Getting too little calcium in your diet can cause oxalate levels to rise and cause kidney stones. To prevent this, make sure to take in an amount of calcium appropriate to your age. The vitamin D insufficiency and low bone mineral density are common among kidney stone formers. Some foods to include are- milk-based products, calcium fortified foods, such as cereal, bread, and juices, beets on a spinach salad with low-fat cheese and yogurt with berries
4. Limit animal protein intake:
A high-protein diet such as red meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood, boosts the level of uric acid and could lead to kidney stones. Also reduces levels of citrate, the chemical in urine that helps prevent stones from forming. If you’re prone to stones, limit your daily meat intake to conquer kidney stone problems.
5. Low salt food:
A high-sodium diet can trigger kidney stones because it increases the amount of calcium in your urine. So a low-sodium diet is recommended for the stone prone. So, try to reduce your daily intake of sodium to stop the new stone formation and avoid its recurrent episodes.
6. Fruits and vegetables:
Fruits and vegetables play important role in kidney stone treatment. Taking ample amount of fruits and vegetables in diet can help a person prevent stone formation. Fruits rich in citric acid have also been shown to have a positive effect in preventing kidneys stones.
7. Reduce refined sugar intake:
Refined sugar is sugar that has been extracted from plants into the white stuff you buy in bulk and add to cake and cookie and brownie recipes, and use to make candy. Added sucrose and added fructose may increase your risk of kidney stones. It is better to avoid foods such as- processed foods, cakes, soft drinks, and juices, cane sugar, synthetic honey.
8. Try Ayurvedic supplement CALCURY tablets and ALKA 5 syrup
CALCURY is an excellent remedy for kidney stone treatment developed by Charak Pharma. It facilitates the passage of ayurvedic urinary calculi by diuretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. CALCURY helps to disintegrate calculi, flushes out and prevents recurrence.
ALKA 5 syrup increases the force of urine flow and prevents bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall. Thus, it facilitates the passage of urinary calculi by diuretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
So follow these simple dietary tips and take CALCURY tablets and ALKA 5 syrup to get rid of kidney stone problems naturally.

Two Main Reasons Why Good Sleep Is Very Important
Sleeping is just as important as healthy eating and regular exercise.
Today, due to westernization and changing lifestyle, like, late night work or parties and events, people are now sleeping less at night, resulting in the decrease of their sleep quality as well.
What happens while you sleep influences the way you feel when you are awake. While asleep, your body works to maintain your physical health. It works to preserve healthy brain function. Sleep also supports growth and development in children.
The effects of sleep deprivation can be acute or chronic, i.e. for long- term. Sleep deficiency can increase your risk of chronic health problems. Quality of sleep also affects your ability to think, react, work, learn, and get along with others.
Reasons why good sleep is important:
1. Good night’s sleep improves your daytime performanc
Sleeping well helps you going throughout the day. Lack of proper sleep leads to decreased productivity at work. You may have noticed, that when you haven’t slept well, you take longer to finish work and tend to make more mistakes.
Even after skipping 1–2 hours of sleep per night, your work may hamper and you may feel like you haven’t slept at all in a day or two.
This sleep deficiency, leads you to micro-sleep- commonly known as dozing or a temporary episode of sleeping, which may last for a few seconds. Micro-sleep refers to a sleepy person fighting against sleep to stay awake. It is not in your control, and may happen even suddenly.
People feel that they can work efficiently even after lack of sleep. Drivers even though drowsy, they may feel that they can drive. But studies have shown that sleep deficiency harms your ability to drive as much as, or even more than, being drunk. Sleep deficiency not only affects the drivers, but can affect anyone, for e.g. students, lawyers, mechanics, health care providers etc.
Sleep deficiency can cause extensive damage like the road accidents, aviation accidents etc.
2. Good night’s sleep maintains healthy brain function
Sleep helps in proper functioning of your brain. When you sleep at night, your brain works, and prepares for the next day. It forms new pathways which will help you to learn and recollect information.
Studies have shown that sleep improves learning. Sleep helps enhances your learning and problem-solving skills. Proper sleep also helps you to be attentive, make correct decisions, and be creative.
It is also seen that, lack of sleep alters brain activity. You may find it difficult to make decisions, or control your behavior or adapt to chance, if you do not sleep well. Lack of sleep is also linked to depression and suicidal thoughts.
Children, who do not sleep properly, have difficulty in concentrating on studies, which may result in low grades. They feel stressed, angry and may also find it difficult to cope with others.
In fact, Ayurveda textbook Charak Samhita considers ‘food, sleep and sex’ as three pillars of health. Sleep being one of the pillars of health, lack of sleep may cause lifestyle disorders like, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and many other chronic disorders. No wonder, William Shakespeare describes sleep as: “Chief nourisher in life’s feast”
