Exercise 5! The scanner scanned it blurry, I’m not sure why. I’ve tried to scan it multiple times.

Albers reading:
This reading really fascinated me, as I really am intrigued by the impact and relationship of color. I especially was intrigued by Josep Albers’ description of how the identity color can be lost when placed around other colors. This reminds me of the bezold color schemes that we used in the previous project and how one color can completely shift a mood or color composition.
I was also fascinated by Albers’s method of teaching the impact of simplicity in line. I can see how this method would work and and how it draws one to focus more on the basic relationship and composition rather than getting sucked into the minute details that can draw attention away from the main focus.
Overall, I enjoyed reading about Albers’s perspective on the sheer impact of color and how it can stand alone yet be wholly changed by the presence or implication of other colors.

Reading #2 notes:
I find it very fascinating how Johannes was able to personify color. As someone who has only taken drawing 1 classes and is currently taking drawing 2 courses, color is something we haven’t played with a lot yet, and it definitely feels like an entirely different domain! I heavily agree on the concept of aesthetics and how it is reliant on understanding color. I also loved to read about the analysis on the different artists and how, although color is universal, each individual is able to create their mark with their specific interpretations. The breakdown of the 7 listed types of color contrast also stuck with me. It is fascinating the way the color and color placement can create such visceral reactions. Strangely, I attribute highly contrasted colors as shocking and they often make me uncomfortable. For example, the golden orb weaver spider species makes me very uncomfortable due to their contrasting colors, as well as many frog species! Of the seven contrasts in the reading, my favorite was the cool and warm contrasts. The comparisons to the stained glass windows was very intriguing. Overall, I was very interested in learning about many ways that colors can be contrasted other than light and dark.
