Bungee jump // Kinich (GI) x reader
You looked down from the bungee tower, body harness strapped on. You gulped. Goodness was it high up here. Things below looked like specks to you.
"Hey! Are you going to do this or not?" Ajaw huffed. "You're wasting our time here!"
"Ignore him. You don't have to do this if you don't want to," Kinich assured you, clapping your shoulder. A hint of concern etched on his features. You sent him a grateful look. You told him that you still wanted to bungee jump, trying to put on a brave front despite your racing heart. You wanted to face your fears. Besides, you trust Kinich.
"... Alright then. Just know that I'll ensure your safety," Kinich responded. You smiled a little despite yourself and nodded.
"Actually..." you hesitated for a moment before asking, "Do you mind if we do this together? I think it'll be less scary for me." Kinich's expression softened slightly before agreeing. He gave a rundown on what to note safety wise and whatnot before attaching the bungee cord to his and your harnesses.
"We'll jump on the count of 3, ok?" he said, wrapping his arms around your waist and holding you close. You voiced your agreement, nodding. You could feel his strong, steady heartbeat which helped you calm down a little.
"Break a leg, you two! Better yet, break your neck, Kinich!" Ajaw sneered.
"..."
You watched, amused, as an unfazed Kinich put the self-proclaimed 'Almighty Dragonlord' in timeout, the latter cursing and complaining as he did so. All your earlier nerves seemed to have dissipated in an instance. Seeing that you looked much more relaxed, a barely noticeable smile tugged at the corner of Kinich's lips.
"Ready?"
"Yes."
"1... 2... 3."
Shrieking, you found yourself plummeting along with Kinich, the view whizzing by in a blur. Kinich tightly held you, a constant and reassuring reminder that he was with you. The bungee cord swung up and down until it came to a stop. Kinich flipped the both of you such that you were right-side up.
"Look at the view but try not to look down."
With your heart still racing from adrenaline, you did as told and gasped. The view was amazing from here. You could see most of the Scions of the Canopy, from the lush greenery to the cliffs.
"Wow, it's beautiful."
Kinich hummed in agreement. He gently squeezed your hand, softly telling you that you did well conquering your fear. A warm feeling coursed through you. You beamed at him.
"It's thanks to you."
"Alright, alright. Stop with the mushy stuff already," Ajaw complained.
"Alright, alright," Kinich answered, mild annoyance in his voice. As much as he wanted to put Ajaw in timeout longer, he needed his help to get back up. He turned his attention back to you. "Ready to head back?"
"Yeah. I wanna do this again, this time by myself," you answered, giving him a determined look. Kinich looked at you for a moment, his calm yellow eyes filled with approval and pride, before nodding.
"Of course."

Having him as a duelling partner // Yuto, Yugo (YGO! Arc-V) and Yudias Velgear (YGO! Go Rush!!) & reader
(Inspired by Cross Duels which unfortunately has ended its services)
Yuto
You were intrigued by the XYZ duelist when you first duelled him. He might seem stoic but from the way he dueled, you could tell that he was kind and merciful. So wanting to get to know him, you asked him to be your tag partner after the duel. To your surprise and delight, he agreed to it. Apparently, he was curious about you as well.
Whenever you doubt yourself whatsoever, Yuto was always there to encourage you with a soft smile. He was also protective. Even though tve Interdimensional War was over, it still had an effect on him. He couldn't help making sure that you were alright physically and emotionally. You would assure him that you were alright, even though you didn't know what was the cause of his worry at first. You did your best to support him, both during and outside duels as well.
If the two of you won a duel, Yuto would warmly congratulate on a job well down. Grinning, you would give him a fist bump, saying that he did well too. On the other hand, if you lost, Yuto would comfort you, telling you that you did your best and that the two of you would do better next time. You would nod, smiling a little.
"You know, I used to enjoy duelling, playing with Shun and others back at Heartland Academy but after the Academia attacked, I was forced to view dueling as a means of survival instead. It was you and Yuya who helped me find the fun in dueling again. For that, thank you."
"It's nothing. That's what partners and friends are for."
Yugo
Yugo was the one to offer you to tag team. He had a lot of fun duelling against. Besides, he needed a partner. You readily agreed, sharing his sentiments.
Yugo would cheer you on when it's your turn during duels (and outside of duels). Seeing his grin would give you the confidence you need. You would cheer for him as well when it was his turn.
As Yugo tended to be hotheaded, you had to calm him down if opponents or anyone else offended him (by saying his name wrong, etc.). Your soothing words would do the trick and Yugo would mutter that he was letting the person off easily because of his partner, making you chuckle.
The two of you would often engage in friendly bickering. But the two of you would try to not let the little arguments get in the way of duels... most of the time.
If the two of you won, you would high-five each other, smiling brightly. Yugo would remark that the two of you made a really good team (or something along those lines) to which you agreed happily. However, if you lost, Yugo would feel bummed at first. He would then check on you to make sure you were alright and cheer you up by taking you on a ride on his D-Wheel, treating you, saying encouraging words, etc.
"Hey, just wanna say thanks for being my partner. I have a lot of fun dueling alongside you. You never fail to amaze me with your dueling skills and to help me improve as a duelist. I couldn't ask for anyone more fitting to be my partner."
"Thanks! You're pretty awesome yourself. Here's to a long partnership!"
Yudias
The serious yet dorky alien amazed you with his potential and passion for Rush Duels. And so you eagerly invited him to be your tag partner. He agreed without hesitation, seeing a kindred spirit in you. Moreover, it was nice to have another human friend.
Being an alien, he could come off as... eccentric but you got used to it, even finding it charming. He was also curious about Earth culture (aside from Rush Duels) and would you about it. You, too, would ask about the culture of his people.
Because of your kindness and patience in teaching Yudias, the 8.8 million Velgearians aboard the Valvelgear liked you, acknowledging you as one of them. You, too, were fond of them, giving them gifts, talking with them and such.
As you were the more experienced between the two, you would give tips to Yudias and coached him (Fortunately, your training sessions weren't as vigorous as a certain actress's...). The Velgearian took your advice and training sessions seriously and was grateful for help.
The two of you would support each other during and outside duels. If the two of you won, you would give each other a thumbs up, grinning. If you lost, the two of you would of course feel disappointed but motivated to improve.
"Thank you for teaming up with me and for teaching me about Rush Duels, my dear friend and comrade. You and our friends have helped me understand Rush Duels better. It's been fun as well."
"(Y/N)! (Y/N)! (Y/N)!"
"My pleasure, Yudias! I enjoy having you as my partner as well! Let's continue to work hard!"
"UTS!"

Knowing the enemy // Blitzwing (TfA) & reader
"Now wear did I put the syringes?" you muttered, looking around. After combing around the medical bay, you managed to find said items sitting on a table. Letting out a quiet 'aha', you grabbed the syringes and placed them in the box you were carrying. As you did so, you spotting the band on your wrist. The Decepticons had put it on you to keep track of your movements and to harm you if you were to do anything rash. It was a constant reminder that you were their prisoner. You frowned. You hoped that the Autobots and Sari were alright. As much as you trust the Autobots to take care of the young girl, you couldn't help worry about Sari. She was your charge, after all. You had to escape from here and reunite with them. Somehow.
Your pondering was interrupted by the sound of the doors opening. Random entered the medical bay, greeting you and asking what you were doing.
"What does it look like to you?" you asked, smiling. However, your smile didn't reach your eyes and your voice dripped with sarcasm. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you looked at it), Random didn't pick up on your sarcasm and instead chattered on. You sighed and decided to ignore him, hoping that he would take the hint and leave you alone. However, the Deception still continued talking.
"Could you please shut up!" you yelled, your patience finally running out. Random looked bewildered to say the least but before he could speak, you continued, "Do you not get it the first time? I don't wish to talk to you, who is part of the group that holds me hostage and blackmailss me into work with them so that those I care about won't get harmed. So please kindly get out. I want to be left alone." Random, although seeming reluctant, did as told. As soon as he left, you gritted your teeth, trying to stop the tears that threatened to spill, before resuming your work.
After a while, you had calmed down and was about to finish the sorting the medical supplies when there was a knock on the door.
"Hey, can I come in?" Random asked.
"Yes, you can," you agreed. Random entered the medical bay hesitantly.
"Sorry about earlier. I haven't interacted much with you humans aside from you know, harming you guys. Besides, you seem nice. Nicer than my teammates, anyway," he apologised. You raised an eyebrow. Dang. The Decepticons were a terrible bunch for him to think that way. Not that you didn't know that, of course.
"Eh, it's fine," you waved a hand. "I could have made myself clearer." An awkward silence fell between the two of you before you spoke, "I there's anything you're curious about or you just want to talk to me in general, feel free to do so. Just... don't expect me to reveal anything that may give me or the Autobots any disadvantage."
"Really?"
"Of course. Unless you want me to change my mind," you shrugged.
"Of course not!" Random hurriedly replied.
"Good. Now if there's nothing else, you may go. I have things to do," you said.
"Alright. See you around, human."
"See you."

Songs of the dragons // Dragon! Dan Heng (HSR) x reader [AU]
Bold = Draconic language
Content warning // Brief implication of death
(Y/N) stepped outside, a grin on their face. Sunlight shone down on them and a cool breeze touched their cheeks -- the perfect weather for going out and tending to the crops. They grabbed a hoe and started weeding the field, pausing every once a while to wipe the beads of sweat trickling down their forehead.
Just then, (Y/N) heard something that sounded like singing. What was more, it was in a language that they had never heard of. They looked towards the source of the sound and saw a group of dragons high up in the sky. (Y/N) watched in awe as the sky gradually turned down and rain started pouring down. They closed their eyes, enjoying the beautiful, haunting melody and the rain on their skin. Their eyes snapped open before widening. That was perculiar. The words to the song were slowly but surely becoming less intelligible to them...
"...And that was how I first understood and learn your language. Apparently, when I was little, I came down with a fever. Fortunately, my parents happened to find a dragon scale which was said to have mystical properties according to us humans. They grounded it and used to make medicine," (Y/N) concludes. The dragon beside them hums thoughtfully.
"I see," he replies. He winces as (Y/N) applies some antiseptic on his leg. The human apologises, saying they are already being as gentle as they could.
"There's no need to apologise. You did warn me earlier, did you not?" the dragon assures them.
"Right," (Y/N) laugh sheepishly. After they have finished applying the antiseptic, they carefully wraps a bandage around the wound.
"There. All done," they declare with a smile. The dragon slowly lifts his injured leg. It feels a little better already. He thanks (Y/N) for treating his wound.
"You're welcome! Be careful not to get caught in fishing nets next time," they answer. They bow and introduce themself. The dragon dips his head.
"I'm Dan Heng. It's a pleasure to meet you, (Y/N)."
xxx xxx
"Dan Heng?" (Y/N) gasps, staring at the male in front of them. He is gorgeous, with long, black hair and piercing turquoise eyes. He wears a white sleeveless shirt -- reminsicent of the colour of the dragon's scales -- with long, unattached sleeves that are accented with teal and gold, as well as black pants
"Yes, it's me. I figure I should adopt a human form so that it's easier to interact," the male nods. He frowns. "Is... something the matter with my appearance?"
"No, not at all!" (Y/N) hurriedly replies. "It's just that... you look really pretty and majestic, both as a dragon and as a human." They flush.
"O -- oh. Thank you," Dan Heng stammers, his expression mirroring (Y/N)'s. "I -- I'm flattered to hear that."
"A -- anyway, would you like to come with me to the village? I think you will like it there," (Y/N) offers, desperately trying to change the subject before things get awkward between them.
"Are you certain? Humans tend to... keep their distance around me and my kind. I don't think that this disguise will be able to conceal my true nature from them since I speak another tongue," the male frowns. In fact, (Y/N) is the first human who approach him without much nerves.
"Good point," (Y/N) agrees, frowning as well. Dragons, being able to perform various feats like summoning the rain, are revered by the people. Some people even feared dragons, not wanting to face their wrath. "That's even more reason to come with me. If people see you spending time with me, they will know that you are approachable. So what say you?" They give Dan Heng an encouraging smile.
"... Alright. I'll give it a try," he relents. A small smile makes its way across his face seeing (Y/N)'s smile widen and their eyes twinkle. Eagerly, (Y/N) takes Dan Heng's hand and leads him to their village.
As anticipated, the people in the village dare not to approach Dan Heng upon hearing him talk in his kind's language and because of his aura. (Y/N) reassures him that it will take a while for the people to get used to his presence and that in the meantime, he just has to be himself. Dan Heng decides to take their word for it, trusting them. For now, he turns his focus on simply enjoying the sights and company. It is interesting to observe how humans lead their lives this close. (Y/N) is also pleasant company, explaining to him their customs and sharing some interesting tidbits and their home life.
After the tour around the village, (Y/N) invites Dan Heng to visit their home. Dan Heng is a little hesistant at first but the human assures him that it will be fine. Their parents have been wanting to meet him, after all. And so the male caves in. Together, the two of them heads to (Y/N)'s home.
"Mom! Dad! I'm home!" (Y/N) announces cheerfully as they enter their home, with Dan Heng awkwardly trailing behind them. Their parents warmly greet them before turning their attention to the male.
"And who is this young man?" their mother asks, smiling. (Y/N) introduces Dan Heng and their parents to each other.
"Ah, so you're the famous Dan Heng that my child has been talking about non-stop," Mr. (L/N) grins. "It's great to finally meet you." (Y/N) quickly translates what their father has said to Dan Heng.
"The pleasure is mine, Mr. and Mrs. (L/N)," Dan Heng bows. Once again, (Y/N) translates what Dan Heng has said.
"Would you like to join us for dinner?" Mrs. (L/N) smiles.
"Yes, please do join us for dinner! My mum makes the best (favourite dish)," (Y/N) grins.
"... Very well. Thank you for the invitation," Dan Heng nods. Beaming brightly, (Y/N) guides Dan Heng to sit beside them while their parents sit across the two of them. The meal is delectable. Besides, conversing with (Y/N)'s family (with (Y/N) acting as their translator) fills Dan Heng with a sense of warmth so similar yet so different from that he feels with his family. While his parents mean well, they can be a little strict with him due to his... position.
Perhaps dragons and humans are not that different after all...
xxx xxx
(Y/N) places the di zi* to their lips before blowing into it. Crisp, beautiful notes emit from the dizi, stringing together to form a tune. Dan Heng is by their side, appreciating the melody. He quietly admires the concentrated look on his companion's face, as well as the graceful way their fingers glide across the finger-holes of the instrument.
"What do you think?" (Y/N) asks after they are done.
"It's... lovely," the dragon turned human compliments them.
"Why, thank you. Glad to know that my years of practice aren't in vain," (Y/N) beams, a faint blush blossoming on their cheeks. "Speaking of music, you dragons sing, don't you? However, I haven't heard you sing before." They look at Dan Heng, silently asking if they can hear him sing.
"Er... well..." Dan Heng stammers, averting his gaze away from them. A look of understanding crosses (Y/N)'s face. They gently pat his shoulder.
"It's alright. Some other time. Only if you want to, of course," they smile affectionately. Dan Heng's heart flutters. How can one be as warm and radiant as the sun?
"Thank you," he replies. He pauses for a moment before continuing, "I may not be comfortable letting you hear me sing but we can go flying. That is, if you would like to."
"I would love to," (Y/N) beams, their eyes sparkling. Dan Heng returns their smile with a small one of his own.
"Alright then," he nods. He closes his eyes in concentration. A stream of water materialises, surrounding him. When it clears, he stands before (Y/N) in his natural form. He bends down, asking them to get on him. With a grin, the human climbs on him. After making sure that his companion is securely mounted on him, Dan Heng soars into the air. (Y/N) lets out a whoop of delight as they feel the wind on their face. They wrap their arms around the dragon, resting their chin on him. They look around. Everything looks so small from up there, including their village which appears as specks.
"Wow. What a view," they breathe.
"You seem to be enjoying yourself," Dan Heng remarks, sounding quite pleased.
"I am," they grin. "We should do this more often." Dan Heng nods, humming in agreement. (Y/N)'s smile soften.
"Thank you for this, Dan Heng," they whisper.
"My pleasure. It's the least I can do for being unable to agree to your request," the dragon replies softly. The two of them then go silent, enjoying the flight and each other's company.
xxx xxx
Dan Heng's eyes scans through the texts, his eyebrows creased into a focused frown. Words in the language of the dragons are inscribed on the scroll, describing the history of the dragons.
"For centuries, dragons have served as guardians of rivers, protecting the creatures living in and near them. The High Elder play an especially key role in leading the dragons, lending their aid to dragons in need and making big decisions on behalf of the dragons..."
"I see that you are taking your studies seriously," a deep, stern voice remarks, interuptting Dan Heng's reading. He looks up from his scroll to meet the gaze of another man. He looks similar to Dan Heng, except older.
"Father," the younger male bows. "Yes. I wouldn't neglect it or my training."
"Very good," Dan Feng nods. "As the next in line to be the High Elder, I expect a lot from you."
"I promise to not let you down," Dan Heng answers. His father makes a sound of approval before his expression turns serious.
"On another note, what is this I hear about you mingling with a human?"
Dan Heng flinches. However, he quickly recomposes himself. He tells his father about his human companion and how they come to know each other.
"I appreciate them helping them helping you when you accidentally got your claw stuck in a fishing net and they seem like a decent human being," Dan Feng answers calmly. "With that said, you know why I disapprove getting close to humans." Dan Heng nods solemnly, an image of him standing by (Y/N)'s gravestone as he grieve over them flashing through his mind. A pang of sorrow hits him but Dan Heng decides to not think about it further. (Y/N) is still with him. And that's all that matters. He looks at his father firmly.
"Father," Dan Heng begins. "By distancing ourselves from humans, we are denying ourselves opportunities to forge new ties, to learn more about each other. After spending time with (Y/N), I realise that dragons and humans are not so dissimilar. We share the same joys and sorrows that life brings, have hopes and dreams and can carry out both good and bad deeds. (Y/N) has broadened my horizons and I... have grown fond of them. So please allow me to stay by their side for as long as they will let me." The younger dragon bows. Dan Feng goes silent for a moment before nodding.
"Very well. I shall respect your choice."
"Thank you, father," Dan Heng dips his head. His father gently patted his shoulder.
"Dan Heng! Dan Heng!" a familiar voice calls just then. The voice then mumbles, "That's how it's pronounced in their language, right? I hope so."
"Mr. (L/N)?" Dan Heng's eyes widens. He sounds anxious. The dragon feels a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. Could something have happened?
"Who could that be?" his father asks, a hint of concern in his voice.
"It's (Y/N)'s father," Dan Heng explains. "I ought to go. It seems urgent."
"Of course. If you require any assistance, do not hesitate to let me know," Dan Feng replies. Sending his father a grateful look, Dan Heng teleports to where (Y/N)'s father is.
"Mr. (L/N). Whatever's the matter?" Dan Heng asks as soon as he appears before (Y/N)'s father. He tries to keep his tone even though his heart is racing. Mr. (L/N) jumps in surprise but quickly relaxes when he sees that it is one he is looking for.
"Dan Heng! Thank goodness you're here," he exclaims, relief in his voice. "(Y/N) they... Oh, sorry. You probably don't understand what I'm saying, do you? Let me repeat what I said in your language." Before he can do so, Dan Heng gently cuts him off.
"It's fine. (Y/N) taught me your language and I did some study on my own as well. So if it's easier for you, please speak in your tongue."
"Oh, that makes things simpler," Mr. (L/N) answers. "Anyway, as I was saying, something happened to (Y/N). They suddenly fell and began writhing in pain. They felt hot to the touch too. My wife and I tried asking doctors for help but they couldn't do anything. We then thought of you and figured you may be able to help."
"I see," Dan Heng, frowning. "We must hurry then if it's as serious as you've said. Please stay close to me. I shall teleport us to your house." Nodding, the other man does as told. Dan Heng closes his eyes. In the blink of an eye, they disappear.
The two of them appears before a frantic Mrs. (L/N) and a barely conscious (Y/N). Mrs. (L/N)'s expression quickly becomes delighted, even relieved to see the two males. Dan Heng's heart sinks seeing the state that (Y/N) is in. He kneels down next to them.
"D-dan Heng?" (Y/N) whimpers
"Yes, it's me. I'm here," said male whispers, squeezing their hand gently. (Y/N)'s expression relaxes a little despite the pain.
"Please help (Y/N), Dan Heng," Mrs. (L/N) pleads
"Not to worry. I'll do everything in my power to cure them," Dan Heng promises. Shutting his eyes, he holds (Y/N)'s wrist, trying to pinpoint the source of the ailment.
"What's the matter with them?" Mrs. (L/N) asks worriedly.
"(Y/N) ate a dragon scale when they were younger, did they not?" Dan Heng inquires. Their parents nod.
"The dragon's qi** from the scale is incompatible with their own qi and hence their body's system is thrown into a disarray as the two qis fight to balance each other out," the dragon explains. "If something is not done, I'm afraid their body system may collapse or even worse..." He stops himself. No. (Y/N) will be fine. He has made a promise to their parents and he intends to keep it.
"But (Y/N) has always been fine so why is this happening now?" (Y/N)'s father asks.
"Since they only ate one scale, the effects are gradual," Dan Heng replies. He frowns. "I apologise. I should have realised it much sooner when they mentioned that they ate a dragon scale."
"What's done is done. What is more important is saving (Y/N)," (Y/N)'s father pats Dan Heng's shoulder. The dark-haired male goes quiet for a moment before nodding.
"You're right," he agrees. He looks at (Y/N)'s parents in turn. "I need some space to treat (Y/N). Is it alright if I bring them somewhere else?"
"Of course. Just please return with them in a better state," Mrs. (L/N) answers. Thanking them, Dan Heng teleports (Y/N) and himself to a secluded, open area near the river he resides. Grasping the human's hand, he takes a deep breath before beginning to sing. His voice is quiet yet powerful as he conveys his feelings through the song. He grimaces, feeling a throbbing pain in his body but he pushes on.
"Dan Heng?" (Y/N) murmurs, feeling the pain subsiding. Their eyes widen when they see the dragon turned human in pain. "Dan Heng! Whatever you're doing, please stop!" Dan Heng shakes his head and squeezes their hand, quietly assuring them that it is alright. After the song ends, the black-haired male lets go of (Y/N)'s hand and drops to the ground, morphing into his true form as he does so.
"Dan Heng! Are you alright?" (Y/N) asks worriedly, inspecting him.
"Yes, I'm alright," Dan Heng assures them, albeit weakly. "Just exhausted from transferring half of my qi to you."
"You silly dragon," the human mumbles, tears pricking the corner of their eyes. They put their forehead against the dragon's. "That was risky. You could've --" They hold their tongue, not wanting to finish the sentence.
"I apologise for worrying you. This is the only way to stabilise the two qis in you," Dan Heng replies. "What about you? How are you feeling?"
"I feel great so far," (Y/N) smiles, backing away a little while wiping their tears.
"That's good," Dan Heng heaves a sigh of relief. "Nevertheless, we should monitor your condition for a few days."
"Ok," they nods. They pause for a moment before continuing, "Thank you, Dan Heng. For saving my life and for that lovely song."
"My pleasure," Dan Heng answers, averting his gaze from them. "As long as you're alright, nothing else matters."
"Except you matter," (Y/N) chides him gently, poking his snout. "So please don't endanger yourself for my sake again."
"I've already apologised, have I not? There's no need to repeat yourself."
"Just wanted to emphasise my point."
"... Fair enough."
The two of them sit side by side, with (Y/N) leaning on Dan Heng's body. They turn to look at their companion. His eyes are shut and he has a peacful look on his face. (Y/N) smiles fondly, glad that the both of them come out of the predicament unharmed.

Aftermath // Toma Vrbada/ Smoke (Mortal Kombat 1) x Dragon! listener
Spoiler warning! Mild spoilers for Tomas' ending!
"Enjoy the rest of your evening."
After thanking the four Earthrealm champions, you and Liu Kang left Madam Bo's teahouse, smiling at each other. Behind you, the champions batering about who would be paying the bill could be heard.
"It seems like Earthrealm is in capable hands," you remarked.
"Indeed, my friend," the fire god agreed. "Come, let's go lend Kuai Liang and Tomas our aid."
"Of course," you nodded. A fond smile made its way to your lips as you thought about Smoke. Among the brothers, you were the closest to him. He was friendly, kind and had a strong sense of justice.
"Your soft spot for Tomas is showing, (Y/N)," Liu Kang commented, a hint of mirth in his voice and eyes.
"Pardon me. I can't help it. As Johnny aptly put it, he's got the wholesome sidekick thing down cold, " you replied, doing your best impression of the movie star. But your expression soon became concerned. "Speaking of Tomas, I'm worried that he will not be welcoming towards you since, well..." Liu Kang quirked an eyebrow in amusement at your impression before gently patting your shoulder.
"There's no need to worry, (Y/N). I will try to speak to him later," he assured you. You nodded, deciding to trust his words. Together, the two of you headed to the portal en route to the location of the Shirai Ryu.
The two of you were welcomed by Kuai Liang, Harumi and Tomas when you stepped out of the portal. However, as expected, while still polite, Smoke's expression hardened a little as he greeted Liu Kang. You cast the fire god a concerned look but remembering his words, you turned your attention to the Shirai Ryu's grandmaster and his partner.
"Congratulations on your marriage, Kuai Liang and Harumi," you smiled warmly. The two of them were meant for each other and you couldn't be happier for your friend. Liu Kang, too, congratulated the two of them.
"Thank you, Lord Liu Kang, (Y/N)," Kuai Liang and Harumi smiled.
"So how is the new clan coming along?" you asked. The three clan members' face fell.
"Unfortunately, we weren't able to find any suitable initiates," Harumi sighed.
"A lot of people are uncertain about joining our clan since we're new. Besides, the skills and attitudes of some of them could use some work," Kuai Liang added.
"We have nothing against people without much skill but with the Lin Kuei being formidable, we need people who are skilled or learn fast," Tomas explained.
"Not to worry, Tomas. Now that we're here, we can help the Shirai Ryu find more members," you offered him an encouraging smile, patting his shoulder reassuringly. Smoke sent you a grateful look.
"(Y/N)'s right. Where have you search for initiates already?" Liu Kang asked. Scorpion answered his question, with Harumi and Smoke adding any other locations he had missed. Liu Kang nodded, thanking the three of them for the information.
"I suggest we split up and look in areas that haven't been covered," he proposed. Everyone voiced their agreement. After discussing where each of you would go, Kuai Liang and his wife left, leaving you, Liu Kang and Smoke. Earthrealm's protector turned towards the young ninja. "Tomas, may I have a word with you in private?" Said male frowned but nodded. You watched as the two of them walked to a quieter place. Silently hoping for the best, you departed as well.
Unfortunately, your search didn't bore fruit. Scorpion and Harumi didn't fare any better. After asking the Shirai Ryu's grandmaster if you could use one of the clan's rooms and obtaining his approval, you headed to the room to meditate. You closed your eyes and took slow, deep breaths, placing all your attention on your breathing.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
"Hey, (Y/N). Brother told me you went to meditate and so I came to find you here. Sorry for interuptting," Tomas greeted as he entered the room. Because of his talk with Liu Kang, he had finished his search later and had only just returned.
"There is no need to apologise. You know I always welcome your presence," you smiled warmly.
"Right," the young man laughed, pink dusting his cheeks. You asked how did his seach go, to which he responded with a shake of his head, saying that he, too, didn't have much luck.
"It's alright. I'm sure we'll find suitable canditates," you comforted him. You hesitated for a moment before cautiously asking, "What about your talk with Liu Kang?"
"It was ok. Lord Liu Kang tried to explain his actions but I'm still not sure if I can forgive him," Smoke replied, clenching his fists. "All this time, I have viewed him as a close ally and friend. But then I learnt that he used to be the Time Keeper, making him the one who made me an orphan. I just... feel so betrayed."
"I understand," you patted his shoulder. "I care a great deal about the both of you so I sincerely hope you and Liu Kang can work this out."
"Alright. I... I will try," the young ninja promised. A smile lit up your features.
"Good," you nodded. "What say we have a spar?"
"Sounds good. After all that has happened, I could really blow off some steam," the Czech man agreed eagerly. "Besides, it would be an honour to fight a legendary being such as yourself."
"Flattery won't make me go any easier on you, Tomas," you teased, your eyes twinkling.
"I know," he grinned. The two of you assumed a fighting stance before Tomas made the first move. He unleashed a kick at you but you quickly moved back. You launched a jet of water at him, knocking him back. You took this opportunity to throw a few water-coated punches at him. You were about to punch him again when Tomas disappeared in a puff of smoke. You created rings of water around your body, anticipating his next move. The male reappeared, preparing to strike with his kunai. You reflexively reshaped your water rings into a shield. You were pushed back as Smoke became more aggressive with his strikes. You morphed your water shield into a jet of water again, pushing him back. You performed a sweeping kick, causing Tomas to fall down.
"Do you yield?" you grinned truiphantly, panting.
"Yes," he huffed. You extended a hand to him and he grabbed it without missing a beat. You carefully lifted him up.
"That was a fruitful spar," you commented. "Your skills have certainly improved."
"Thank you," Smoke replied, flushing. You smiled. However, your expression soon concerned when you noticed some bruises on his body.
"Apologies. Did I hurt you too badly?" you asked. Tomas assured you that it was alright. After all, one tended to get injured from sparring.
"Here. Allow me to heal you," you offered. Tomas thanked you to which you replied with a smile, saying that it was your pleasure. You gently placed a hand on his injuries and worked your magic. The young ninja stared at you.
"What is it?" you asked.
"Oh, nothing much. I just... think that your horns are pretty. Can touch your them?" he replied, embarassment evident on his features.
"Sure, once I'm done healing you," you smiled.
After healing the last of Smoke's injuries, the two of you found a place to sit down. Tomas cautiously touched your horns, making you shiver.
"Did I do something wrong?" he asked, concerned.
"Fret not. You did not do anything wrong. It feels nice, actually," you assured him. The young man nodded and continued, this time more confidently. You leaned into the touch, closing your eyes in contentment. The two of you stayed like that for a while until you backed away.
"I have to get going. Liu Kang and I have other things to attend to," you said.
"Alright. See you around. I -- I mean we -- will always welcome you," he replied. A smile adorned your features.
"See you."

A personal response to bad fic comments
So I’m in fandom spaces basically all the time, this is not news if you know me at all. It’s probably why you follow me.
In the past 6 months - 1 year, my friends and I have been noticing a bit of an uptick on Bad Comments to our fanfics. We’ve noticed this on our fics. We’ve noticed this on other’s fics.
We don’t have statistics - that’d be near impossible to collect, anyway, but it seems they’re on the rise. As I’m starting to publish more fic lately, I want to share my personal policy on this - and that is the fact that I’m not going to tolerate bad comments on my fanfic.
(I will happily also step in for other fanauthors, as well - though I do only do this with permission of the fic’s author.)
My stock reply to bad comments is below. You may borrow and use it freely, no credit needed.
Dear Human, You have left the type of comment that falls into a category we fanauthors call entitled. If you would like an explanation on how your comment qualifies, please press 1. If you require advice on how to leave better comments, please press 2. If you would like to argue that your comment does not qualify, please hang up and never call back. Rude or entitled responses from you in the future may lead you to be blocked. This is your only warning. Have a nice day!
If the comment isn’t “entitled” but falls into another bad category, it’s usually outright harassment and will get both an immediate block and a report to AO3, or whoever the hostsite winds up being.
I have three questions I ask before sending this message:
1. Did they say anything at all about the fic they’re commenting on, and was it nice?
For a bad comment, the answer to this is “no”.
2. Does the comment ask or demand something of me, as a fanauthor.
For a bad comment, the answer is “yes”.
Comments that are entitled will have both qualifications. They will get the stock reply above. If they only fit one of the questions, I will consider a more mollified report.
I already know what people are going to argue when they read this -
But Chroma! What if the commenter doesn’t know any better and is young/new/neurodivergent!
Okay first of all, I am autistic myself and am perfectly capable of fucking manners and learning social norms, so I resent the automatic implication some of y’all have that all neurospicy people are inherently rude or vice versa.
Secondly, that is why I left the phone options. If the commenter wants to be better they can use them as a jumping off point for the future conversation. If they legitimately want to learn how to not be a dick in fandom they can reach out.
But Chroma! What if the commenter didn’t realize what they were doing wrong?
They they can politely go “oh shit, my bad,” apologize to me, and leave a real fucking meaningful comment.
If you want to use this policy, go ahead. If you don’t, that’s fine too. If you think that this is a piece of shit policy then feel free to ignore this post and, in the future, everything I say and write.
In the meantime, I’ve been in fandom for over two decades now. So this Fandom Old is gonna enforce etiquette in her spaces and live her best fandom life.
Have a good evening, everyone.
