Yellow rain boots are always fashionable and eternally iconic. The rain boots paired with the Dalmatian make this one of my favorite images. It’s playful, it’s bright, and funny, and it’s a just little bit ridiculous. I saved these boots after the shoot for Neve and Laine to wear. They don’t fit yet but would have been perfect for splashing in the rain puddles after yesterday’s rain storm. I haven’t jumped in a rain puddle for many many years, at least not on purpose. The depth of NYC sidewalk corners can be very deceiving! We all know what Friday Feels look like but do you know what Monday Feels look like? Asked and answered (in the photo above). This little guy was not as grumpy as he looks. Quite the opposite in fact. He did not want to be alone on set. He wanted to cuddle and be close to anyone that came near. I don’t think he really enjoyed being photographed alone but he was super happy when he was able to snuggle up with another pug on set. Digging into the archives and found this image. Last year I photographed Kerri at @socialteesnyc. Just laying here on the couch (actually sitting at my desk) wondering if anyone looks at Instagram this late. Eleven PM is not an ideal time to be posting on here. This image is timeless! One of the many great things about animal photography is that images don’t have to look dated. Sure, there are trends with lighting, backgrounds, techniques, etc. I try to not shift my work based on those trends. Of course I am influenced by trends and I experiment with what trends fit my aesthetic. In the beginning of my career I liked shooting on color backgrounds. Then for a long time I only wanted to shoot on white. Lately I have been more inspired by color and want to use more color in my work. Aside from that tidbit, what year do you think I shot this image? Do you think it looks dated? And for those who really know my work, what is the major thing I did for this image that you rarely see in my work today? I usually only post cats on Saturday (because #caturday) but I should really post them more often. I photograph just as many cats as I do dogs. I am often asked if I also photograph cats. Which is then follow up with the question of which I like photographing better. The answers to those questions are yes and I like them equally. Photographing cats and dogs can be very different. If I photographed only dogs or only cats I’d likely get bored. I like to change things up and have variety in my projects. New challenges to tackle, new concepts to bring to reality. What’s the point of all this? I don’t really know. Perhaps a friendly reminder that I also photograph cats and maybe I’ll start posting more of them during the week.
