And last but not least, the harpies of my retelling! All but Calypso (the last one, I took some liberties with her in this retelling lmao) are a part of a harpy flock that Odysseus stumbles upon and then gets stuck in for a week. Well Aello isn't a part of the flock, but she's a part of the original 300 handmaidens that make up the original harpies.
Their names are: Eutropia, Aello, Syntyche (the leader of the flock), Thrinia and Calypso!
Thrinia ends up befriending Odysseus and helping him hold onto his humanity in the flock as they try to rip it away from him. Eventually she joins him on his journey home.
Also all the harpies patterns/colorization are based on real birds!! Which I had a LOT of fun with!

Doodles of Eurylochus and Polites as I get used to drawing their designs that I did at work today! I'm still figuring it out 😂
#Polites#eurylochus#the odyssey#the harpy of Ithaca#it took embarrassingly long to figure out how I wanted to draw Eurylochus' hair lmao#decided to make it softer and less pointy#in the end

I do intend to do an Iliad retelling at some point, so I doodled a possible Achilles design. Probably will change by the time I get around to that, but I had to get this out of my head lol.
I just really like the idea of him having really wild blond hair.

First go at Odysseus' mom, Anticlea's design! She is also blond and also has hazel eyes. Odysseus gets most his looks from her, but the freckles are from his dad.
She's a very kind, but strong woman! She and Odysseus were very close.

I have so many emotions concerning Odysseus, Telemachus and Penelope rn omg

Text
Thinking about how Odysseus sometimes lies awake at night thinking about Telemachus. He can picture Penelope clearly and as perfectly as the day he left her, but he knows Telemachus has grown up.
Knows that his son is 20 now. What does he look like? (He knows what he looks like, as an infant, but that's very different compared to how someone looks at 20) what does he sound like? Is he tall? Is he short? He pictures a strong young man with curly blond hair. The same shade as the infant he left. But he doesn't know what his face would look like. So his mind never fills it in, can't fill it in. It's just like someone's erased Telemachus' features. And this deeply upsets Odysseus. He wants to know what Telemachus looks like so badly. He wants to be a father so badly. He worries that he might never get the chance to at this point.
#Odysseus just wants to be home so SO badly#he misses his family so badly#so keenly#the harpy of Ithaca#the odyssey#shades ramble

Finished Odysseus, Telemachus and Penelope's refs! Telemachus doesn't realize how much he looks like his father, he has an idea from all the "Oh, you look so much like Odysseus!" But he doesn't know how.

Also if anyone had questions about my Odyssey retelling I wouldn't be opposed to answering them! I LOVE talking about my plots, especially ones I'm really into!

Some more of the characters for my retelling! Plus two more doodles (one ONCE AGAIN inspired by EPIC lol). I decided last min to Include Odysseus mom so she needs a design (she shows up a little bit in the underworld towards the end of the plot and kinda gut punches Odysseus because he hadn't even realized she had died) but I haven't gotten to designing her yet. She is also probably blond too and where he gets most of his looks from though I think??? The freckles are from his dad.
Circe and Eurymachus's are still in the workshop stage of their designs. Eurylochus's designs and Aello's (the harpy's) design are pretty much finalized, the others I'm still tweaking a little bit!!!
#the harpy of Ithaca#the odyssey#and chibi style for the designs roughs because o can get them done fast and quickly#it's a very good way to get my ideas down fast and with little fuss

Also realized I never posted this?????? But I got super inspired by an ancient statue and immediately like "well I can't NOT draw this as Odysseus and Penelope now!" So I did!
These two would do literally anything for each other they love each other so much omg
#the odyssey#odysseus#Penelope#the harpy of Ithaca#and again these are my interpretations/ocs for my Odyssey retelling#it's different in a lot of ways but also similar too!#but I love these guys a lot

Also for clothing wise in terms of color I want Odysseus and Penelope's to call back a little bit to each other. Odysseus's color is red I think, and Penelope's is blue! So she has some red in her outfit and he has some blue.
